Malaysian Plane crashes over the Ukraine | 17th July 2014

Was supposed to fly Malaysia earlier this year. Think I'll pass on future plans.

I cant imagine why it would have been shot down? Unless there was someone of importance on the flight?

Very sad news. There is no official information from government at the moment

For a second I thought it was the missing plane, RIP. This sounds like what would have happened in Arrow Season 1 with that missile launcher in the Island.

Someone who wants to destabilise the region even more? That's a serious shot to take that out at that altitude mind.

Well there are thousands of Russian ground forces along the border, as well as well armed Russian separatists who have been regularly shooting at Ukrainian planes over the past few months.

There was an airstrike with casualties 2 days ago near the place of crash (at Snejnoe, about 30 km away). And they (probably DNR) already shot down one plane near Lugansk 3 days ago.
So, not surprising - they probably thought that it was another bomber.

Horrible though.

Of course as previous crashes have taught us, let's be careful about accepting the first versions of the stories that come out. Not saying it was not shot down, but going to take the cautious approach. Then of course it it does turn out to have been shot down, the question will then become by who....

A Ukrainian cargo plane was shot down a few days ago. CNN reporting it was from a surface to air missile (SAM) that was launched from just within the Russian border. The Russians obviously have the technology to shoot a plane down at around 37k feet cruising altitude.

The US shot down a Libyan plane in the late 80s. Lockerbie was the retaliation iirc.

Didn't they also shoot down an Iranian plane in the gulf...late 70s early 80s? Anyway, America's history of shooting down passenger jets is irrelevant here.

It must've been a pretty sophisticated missile to hit something at 33 thousand feet going 500mph. Surely the rebels wouldn't have that techonlogy?

It is somewhat relevant... For people expecting shit to hit the fan, its not going to happen. Russians will pay compensation of sorts and all will be back to normal except for the families of the 295. RIP.

:(Malaysia airline confirm they lost contact with mh17
