Honestly, I dont think that the idea of waiting until LVG analyses the squad really applies to midfield. We now only have 4 players in that area, Fletcher, Cleverly, Fellaini and Herrera. For a manager that hates to cede possession in midfield, that's unlikely to be enough, even if Strootman is on the radar.

I think he's talking about up front where we have RvP, Rooney, Hernandez, Wellbeck, Young, Nani, Valencia, Januzaj, Mata, Kagawa plus players like Powell, Wilson, Lawrence & Lingard coming through.

Bear in miind that he's certain to at least consider 4-3-3 at some point - we have 4 midfielders going for 3 spots and 10 attackers going for 3 more. I suspect that's where he'll need more time to see players in action.

Calm down guys, people overrating any word or sentence here. He will look at the squad, but he won't need a month for it and furthermore it's pretty obvious that, even if he likes our CB and CM options, we are short in numbers. And for a player like Vidal the only thing you need to know about your squad is if you need a midfielder, he is that good, you make room for him. I would be surprised if we don't sign a player in the next few weeks.

Becuase people now know this is nothing more than a pipe dream.

It was a muppet frenzy on here before the Juve presser. It's dead now.

 The Juve presser meant zip. Moratta had the option of saying 'Oi, listen here ye Mancs, he's not for sale, at all'. Instead all he did was put the ball firmly in Vidal's court.

I mean really, Moratta couldn't exactly come out and say they're selling Vidal since Conte just left and Juve fans aren't happy already.

Everything said in a press conference is literal and exact. Especially if it can be interpreted in a negative way.

Alright Stretch how's it going my eternal optimist muppet mate?

He said Herrera and Shaw were on "the list" and he approved them. No one asked if anyone else was on said list.

Not good. The only silver lining to that is that it could force van Gaal to buy a CM.

Force Van Gaal? Even if Carrick wasn't injured we'd still add a midfielder.

Well, not force. But perhaps speed things up. Bad wording on my part.

After initially hearing LVG's words I wasnt sure he understood the gravity of how awful our midfield was and when I heard Carrick was injured I thought that the positive in that was LVG would feel the need to buy a CM and hopefully someone with experience and energy (VIDAL!)

Funny thing is I've never been a muppet but for Arturo :drool::drool:

Seriously though, with Vidal's comments, and Moratta not exactly completely ruling out a sale, I'd say this is very much still on.

I think he'll figure it out pretty soon, such as the next week or so even. When he realizes that our midfield consists of players such as Fellaini and Anderson he'll understand the issue.

In all fairness I hope you are right but it's looking pretty grim I must say. I am desperate for Vidal.

Vidal is clearly available. He clearly wants to come.

If we don't sign him, it'll rang up there with the most stupidest transfer decisions ever made. It's a no brainer. He should be signed already.

Please elaborate how and why you think this?

Combine that with LVG public admiration for the player.

If Carrick is out for months we have to get this done.

We're stacked in central midfield though, not sure why we need Vidal?

Fletcher - Don't you remember how good he was before Moyes?

Anderson - Huge potential, we should give him more games, he only played 4 times last season..

Cleverley - Was Scholes' natural successor a few seasons ago, just needs a bit of confidence.

Herrera - Really good back up to Cleverley.

Fellaini - A number 6 who also has the attacking technique to be a good number 10.

Jones - World Class Potential.

Rooney - World Class.

crazy isnt it?

All the united Twitter fanbase keeps screaming is Vidal and yet not a single question gets asked about the hottest name in United fans mouths?

I nearly bit, I really did.

It's of greater importance now though. Partnering Herrera with Carrick until Strootman is fit was an option before but it's obviously not now.

We need at least one more brought in for midfield.
What's happening with Strootman now, is he training?

Not sure of the specifics but I don't think he will be until around christmas time. We can't wait months for a 'primary' target really.

We really would be needing someone who can come in now for the start of the season in my opinion. Especially when we don't have anyone who can do what Carrick does.

I don't want us to rush into signing him, think LVG will want to scout him for a few months before signing, might be an option in January.

Yeah and no one knows how Strootman will return. With knees problems they can effect the rest of your career. I doubt we'd waste £30m for another Hargreaves.

Carricks injury really does put a cat amongst the pigeons doesn't it in terms of midfield signings/partnerships/outgoing transfers

What we know is that Van Gaal said Shaw and Herrera were on the list. Two players don't make a list so there will almost certainly be other players the club is actively pursuing. I think Vidal's very likely to be one of the primary targets.

I really hope you're right. His signature is worth 10x more to us now that Carrick is fecked.

I dont think anyone needs 3-4 to want to sign someone of Vidal's calibre

Perhaps the list included Kroos and he was one of those that van Gaal vetoed?

Even with CL football we would of still lost out to Madrid to his signature. Sucks
