Arturo Vidal

The fact that the Chilean and Italian press have been so adamant about this happening convinces me that we have a solid chance of getting him. All of these reports aren't and can't be bullshit, it's just way too much smoke for there not to be fire.
The biggest thing with united is that Mitten says its happening, so it will happen. He is rarely wrong.

Anyone else consider that this transfer may have already been completed and there is a clause to say we can't announce it until the beginning of August so Vidal can finish his holiday and juve can buy replacements without a furious backlash? Or everything is in place awaiting medical records of vidals knee? I'm buying a new united shirt with Vidal on the back as this is a cert to happen and he will be here

Yeah that too. Mitten is and never has been a bullshitter. When he says something it will happen it almost always does. His video about Vidal was encouraging considering how much he trusted his sources.

Mitten didn't say it was happening though. He said there was interest and it could happen but lot has to be done before it.

Doubt that. What makes you say it?
El Mercurio is a conservativeChilean newspaper with editions in Valparaíso and Santiago. Its Santiago edition is considered the country's paper-of-record and its Valparaíso edition is the oldest daily in the Spanish language currently in circulation. El Mercurio is owned by El Mercurio S.A.P. (Sociedad Anónima Periodística, "joint stock news company"), which operates a network of 19 regional dailies and 32 radio stations across the country.

I find it hard to believe that Van Gaal would want to play with two number 8 in his midfield. The only way I can see that happening is if we adopt a 5-3-2 as our go to system and put a destroyer or ball carrying player as the cdm/cb in the back three. Or Herrera becomes like our own mobile version of Arteta and becomes the number 6 in our system(Arteta played further forward for Everton in his career). For that reason, I am leaning on the side that sees this Vidal interest as a smokescreen for a new sponsorship deal.

What about Javi Martinez? I heard that was quite high, something to do with the taxes involved?

He was the most expensive signing in Bundesliga history. The fee was 40M Euros.

Good spot. Yes as NMF said he's also in the € 40m bracket. :)

Mitten didn't say it was happening though. He said there was interest and it could happen but lot has to be done before it.

Yep, but he also said that he believed that a deal would be done. If it wasn't for him saying that, I'd be inclined to think nothing was happening here.

Many also said we had Fabregas and Thiago in the bag last season. I won't believe anything until I see him holding our shirt, smiling at camera next to Sir Bobby.

I'm pretty confident we'll be signing vidal

No one was convinced of fabregas, but thiago was in the bag but moyes dithered too much :(

Ogden, Ducker, The Guardian, Di Marzio etc. have said that this isn't happening, this rumour seems to be based more on what people want to happen (I'd love for him to join) rather than much actual chance of it coming to fruition.

Mitten said United were in negotiations with Juve

Did he go as far as "negotiations"? That would suggest an offer on the table and we're haggling over the price.

I think it's more a case of "we are interested in your player and we're trying to get an idea of what a good opening bid is", it's very much being played out in the media by both clubs.

United are briefing that £34m is our price.

Juve are briefing that they want closer to £45m.

We're at work on the player now agreeing a wage with his agent and getting him interested in the move, in a case like this I suspect we will be happy to pay the agent fee's as it is going to be down to him to engineer the move.

Once the player is fully on board and already spending his huge pay rise in his head and fantasizing about tearing up the Premier League.... getting Juve to accept a bid for a player whose mind is elsewhere becomes easier and it becomes easier for them to explain it to their fans.

Yep, this is correct.

I was loving the Vidal to Utd saga at first but now it's obvious it's all just speculation.

And Andy Mitten is just a hopeful supporter - he doesn't know if we're gonna sign the player or not. I can't see this happening at all, nothing points to him joining us.

Not strictly true though is it?

The stance they have taken is that they have been briefed that "we are not in for Vidal". They said that doesn't mean that we are not in for Vidal, it just means that United have told them they are not.

The fact we briefed a selection of journalists all at the same time that we're not in for him makes it seem very much like a tactical move on United's behalf.

No, they have not.

Not said anything, ducker even said he knows nothing about it.

Di marzio- said no bid(but said contact was made quite a time ago)
The only ones who have strongly said no interest is jamie cuntson.

On the other hand people who have said its happening include mitten, italy newspapers and chile newspapers. Considering player is in chile and his club are in italy, The rumour does have legs.

When did Ogden say anything about it? Ducker just retweeted what Jackson said too, he never said it himself. And for that matter, it was Jamie Jackson who wrote the article for the guardian so take it with a pinch of salt.
Di marzio said no talks have taken place and juventus didn't put him up for sale, he never said there's no chance or anything like that.

Most people have said pretty much the same thing. That we haven't made a bid or made official contact with them about him but then we are clearly interested as Vidal himself said so. Nothing will happen for the next week or 2, until Vidal finishes his vacation, but I don't think it's off or something like that by any means.

The level of ignorance is just too high here. Andy mitten got an inteview with woodward, no one in english media has been able to do that, yup just a hopeful fan!

If we do sign him you have to say kudos to Woodward and his team

The British media/Sky Sports haven't had much insight

Some difference to our public courting of the likes of Fabregas last summer

Actually Di Marzio NEVER said this deal didn't happen. He actually had to state that he never said that.
So it was only the British press spouting the briefed bullshit.
I think it will happen.

True but none of them knew about Herrera either so there's hope...

The fact that the player has confirmed our interest himself, and has not ruled a move out despite numerous chances, means there is something here.

Even the club failed to deny a move out.

"we're definately in negotiations" is what he said.

Look I know you're excited and hopeful, I am as well mate - I'd love him to leave Juve for us, I really would. But there is nothing concrete to suggest he's anywhere near joining United.

I'm old and experienced enough to not get sucked into this kind of hype. We had it with Batistuta, Shearer, Sneijder etc. None of them ended up joining. I think Vidal will be another name on that list, unfortunately.

I hope I am wrong.

We will purchase a midfielder now that Carrick is out for 3months, if we don't then we are cursed in that department. The question is what midfielder will that be?

I can't help but feel this rumour has zero basis, and is based on what people want. Surely if this was happening, Vidal would have cut short his holiday and done his medical and everything by now? Someone has also pointed out that Every reputable journo has pretty much said it's not happening as well, Ogden, Jackson, Ducker, Di Marzio have all stated that we haven't even approached Juve.

This isn't even a Muppet thing, we are so short on quality midfielders it's not even funny any more, But ffs surely we deserve 1 summer of actually getting 2/3 top class players in, instead of bringing in Vermaelan and De Jong. :(

Have I missed something? Also it's fairly obvious we're signing him now. This is done and dusted. They're just giving their fans a bit of recovery time from Conte (why would he have left). Letting him finish his holiday, come back to Italy sort his shit out then on the plane to ringway to join up at the same time as RVP and the others.

Done. Dusted. Next.

Pfffft. Typical yanks coming in at the last minute to claim glory.

What else should Juve are saying???
All clubs are saying that and on the next day the player goes to the other club........i don't say this will happen with Vidal.......but Juventus can't say anything else.....whether the players stays or goes!!!

I am not disagreeing with that! But some are saying Juventus have not denied nor confirmed Vidal coming to United which simply isn't true! They have said that he's staying and that he is crucial to their plans!

Muppets invent stuff half the time because they're so excited. It will only end in tears.
