One of: Mata. Herrera. Kagawa. Rooney.

Anyone else I'm missing as our number 10? Cleverley? Young?
Mata and Rooney are safe. Herrera looked top shelf. Kagawa was ok, and perhaps the one who's most under threat.

van Gaal's made a huge difference to the way we played last season. He's made us more positive and proactive in our game, and we're finally seeing players move around, looking for spaces, and playing quick passes all around. There's so much promise in terms of how we can perform at our best. I'm looking forward to it!

It's the same thing basically, it transforms from 3-5-2 to 5-3-2 or something inbetween in 3-4-3 depending on who we're playing and what kind of tactic we're adapting.

Or so I believe.

Yes I guess it depends on whether we're playing a 10 or not but the United twitter account said 352 and journos said 343 so I was asking which one is it that LvG mentioned.

Wait did he saying we're going with 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 ?

It always depends on where you count players to. If we say the wingbacks are midfielders and the attacking midfielder a striker than we have a 3-4-3. If we count wingbacks and the attacking midfielder as midfielders it's a 3-5-2.

But for the sake of it let's call it as LvG does, it's a 3-4-3 from now on.

I think he meant Januzaj, Fellaini, Mata and Kagawa as four AM. I can see Fellaini leaving and Kagawa if he don't adapt to CM role.

Rooney is obvious a striker in his eyes as he said we have 3 strikers on the bench if we play with only one.

Not too sure on Fellaini. He obviously has to go, but I don't think van Gaal sees him as an attacking midfielder. I think he referred to Mata, Rooney, Kagawa and Herrera.

Note he doesn't mean a number 10, he means a number 8 as he explained to Andy Mitten. This is a difference between English and Spanish usage. We think of number 10s as attacking midfielders in Spanish not so much.

So did Van Gaal say he was going to play 3-4-3?
Yes, 3-4-1-2, 3-4-3, 3-5-2, 5-3-2, whatever you wanna call it, I think 3-4-1-2 is the best suited name. He said we would change to 4-3-3 if his preferred system 3-4-1-2 doesn't work.

You have to say that Van Gaal coming out and saying he's not going to sign any players (I presume Shaw and Herrera were in place for a while and he simply ok'd those moves) in favour of initially looking at all our existing players could be a masterstroke. This will give all players a real confidence boost and might be just what some of the underperformers need to kick off a turnaround in their fortunes and form.

At least LvG reveals his plans unlike Moyes who never said anything noteworthy about the tactics and formations.

Jesus this 343 with players moving between the lines, making triangles of passing and keeping spare man is light years away from Moyes' dreadfully inflexible 442. The players must be delighted.

"You need to have a football intelligence, a football brain to understand that, first of all, You have to be able to know that if teams cram the middle of the pitch, the space would be out wide where you would go to try to pick out team-mates. If we had played the game and had no crosses, we would have been criticised for not crossing the ball"

What's the odds on Gary Neville spending the first few weeks of the season looking for the first mistake he can jump on to criticise this tactic and point out that it's just not the right way for United to play?

It'll take him a few months to learn it first and realize there's more than one way to play footbal, even for United.

He will say these exact words.. "its not the united way".
He is from the harry redknapp school of management, tactics dont matter, play enough good players and you are not relegated.

A few losses and he'll crap on about how much he wants 4-4-2, crosses, counter attacks etc.
