I know it's not going to happen before Monday but I think we will need a new top class striker sooner rather than later.

Rooney: He seems to be having more and more bad games.
Van Persie: He isn't getting any younger and he is struggling to have an impact in games.
Welbeck: I am a big fan of Welbecks but I can't see him becoming first choice for us.
Hernandez: Most likely going to leave before Monday.
Wilson: Still raw and has to keep improving.

I think someone like Edison Cavani would suit us better than any of our current strikers if we were to swap to a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 which everyone seems to be agreed we have to do.

Nowhere near as badly as we need a couple of center backs and central midfielders.

The service to our strikers is terrible for a top club. How many chances have we created so far this season? Very few. Look at teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, City and even Liverpool, they create loads of chances in every game. I would still back Rooney, RVP and Hernandez to bury the chances but we need to create them first and foremost

No, we need a fast, versatile attacker like Reus to play as part of a front 3 with either Rooney or RvP as the central #9.

No. We need a commanding CB and a CM. Also Wilson has great potential, let's introduce him to the first team and see what he can do.

If we were going after a striker we'd be better off going for someone with absolutely electric pace and fantastic acceleration who's also strong and would need to be a clinical finisher because having that would make the team tick, I know Chica ticks some of those boxes however I no longer think he's as clinical as he once was, Welbeck whilst being fast is not a good enough finisher and I think he may eventually be moved on. Wilson is an odd one because obviously he's only young but he's as quick as they come and a very good finisher, I think he's a couple of years off yet though.

Nope, Rooney, RVP and Welbeck are all good and would certainly get games at most other top clubs. It's just the service they're getting and the fact RVP/Rooney don't seem to be able to play together.

I know we need a CB and a CM but I hope that we will see our current crop of strikers improve if we change formation.

schstupid thread. We just needs to stop persisting with the notion that Van Persie and Rooney can complement each other. Welbeck, Wilson and Rooney are good enough strikers if Van persie gets injuried. Moreover, we can switch to a 1-4-2-1-3 system and focus on Di Maria, Januzaj, lawrence and depay as wide players with the lone striker.

I agree. A fully fit Aguero and Suarez are examples of that type of striker.

Our strikers feed on scraps, go figure. Give them service and they'll do the job, RVP and Rooney are 2 strikers many top clubs would love to have. We don't need a striker, we need a midfield that can get a grip of a football game.

After seeing how bad Rooney and RvP have been for a while now I would say let's send an SOS to Falcao!

At this point no, we need the players in midfield and out wide to be of a higher quality so that our current mob are actually given chances instead of trying to force half chances at best. We should probably be rotating RVP and Rooney though instead of starting with both.

Yep. Definitely if Chico and Welbeck go, we can't rely on Wilson for goals. We have had plenty of strikers come through the reserves in high promise and it very rarely ends in success here. I'm sure Wilson will be great but you can't expect him to bang in 15 goals, which is needed.

RvP and Rooney are class, but shouldn't just be our only options. I would seriously consider this loan deal for Falcao...

Falcao would be perfect but unfortunately no chance ;)

No, we just need to stop trying to shoehorn RvP, Rooney & Mata in at once constantly and try something different if/when it's obvious it isn't working.

If we go by the way the team is performing now, we'd be needing new players in all positions.

Rooney and Van persie have been disappointing, but so has everyone else, we need to wait and see how everyone will progress this season first, right now it's hard to tell.

Until I see our team with the new players who can actually get the ball to them, it is hard to tell. We could have Cristiano and Messi and somehow make them look bad.

I would have said before today that the problem was pretty much defence and midfield only but the attack seems toothless.

And, interesting that Shaw got criticised for his lack of fitness (admittedly his own fault) and yet RvP plays when clearly still rusty?

There are other priorities in the squad as our strikers are probably the part of the squad despite the lack of goals. We don't have the ability to put together a period of sustained pressure, how many times have we seen the top teams 'turn the screw' and eventually the other team makes a mistake or a moment of brilliance occurs.

Without wanting to sound like Yoda, balance must be restored.

No. The buildup play is the problem. CBs cannot bring the ball forward, lack of off the ball movement from our MF area, wingers create next to nothing.

Fergie's logic doesn't always work.

Lets get the ball into our midfield, and thus our strikers, much quicker so they have more space to work in and they arent constantly crowded out. Also lets start winning the ball higher up the pitch and punish players who will be out of position.

The problems further back in our team are having an adverse effect on our team upfront. Fix one and the other will improve.

However I do think we will need a striker in the next year or 2, depending on if Welbeck is still here and how Wilson develops.

RvP, Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez, Wilson... I think we're ok. Welbeck if he sticks around will be first choice in a few years, doubt he'll stay though. Rooney can stay as a top striker for a few years yet and I have high hopes for James Wilson, think he'll become a top player. The Rooney-Van Persie - Mata situation is a problem, but dropping 1 of them would help I think. Mata gets too crowded behind the pair of them, and the pair of them together lack pace. Put Rooney behind RvP in a 4-2-3-1 with Di maria and Januzaj on the wings, or Mata behind one of them and they'll all be better I think.

RVP was terrible today and Rooney wasn't much better. Selling Welbeck would be madness. He's the only forward with any pace.

ermmm, sorry? It has to be WUM!?

I don't mean this transfer window. I mean maybe next summer possibly because our current strikers are on the decline.
There isn't anyone really good who is available. Cavani maybe but not sure if we will spend that much for him. Falcao will also be almost 30.

Yeah. I was just wondering people's opinions. For now I think we have to choose one striker and play him up front and I would have Mata, Di Maria and Januzaj behind them providing pace and creativity.

No, but we need to keep Welbeck to put pressure on Rooney and Van Persie. Also, if you have a 2-striker system you should have 2 others on the bench (think Barca 99). So Rooney, RVP, Welbeck, Wilson. If one of them is injured, Januzaj can also play as a striker.
