Alex Salmond and Independence

I'm pretty sure Betfair don't set their own odds, no? The odds are set by its users, unlike most betting sites.
Those were Paddy Power odds I quoted, but yeah the Betfair paying out on the no vote was massively misconstrued by all accounts in that it was from its own book not the exchange, which is 80% or whatever of its business.
I'm in the yes camp now, switched my allegiance at the last minute.
Bloody turncoat.

Labour never wastes a penny. We should have given them the purse strings;)
Forget Labour, just put me in charge. I have a foolproof business plan.

1. Give money to Señor
2. Buy Reus and Hummels
3. ?????
4. Profit

Keep it to yourselves, guys.

I'm English, had enough of the bowing to a country that wants out of our union that they entered into, if they want it let them have it. Short term pain, but that's it.

Looking at Paddy Power, they were giving 1-4 for yea for ages, it moved out (slightly) to 2-5 after the second TV debate and this week it moved back to 1-4. Except today when it moved out to 1-5 this morning and just checked now and its 1-8, so they are darned confident.

Betfair currently about 1/16 no, 14/1 yes, paid out on no vote once already too.

Also read somewhere some guy from London has £900,000 riding on the no vote, probably stand to win around £200,000, should have backed it with betfair he'd already have the cash in the bank!

If that poll is accurate you almost wonder if Cameron didn't jump the gun with his promises of new powers amidst the panic.

Sod that, Salmond needs to draft in Successful as his chancellor if he wins. He'll make sure they have 'high performance Scots'.

But then who'll be in charge of assigning United shirt numbers? No, no, he's more valued at United than in Parliament.

Oh, no doubt in my mind that he did jump the gun far too early, and will regret it if No wins.... But again, that's not nailed on in my opinion just yet.

I'm English too and was initially very anti them leaving, but the more it has gone on, the less I can give a feck tbh. I love visiting Scotland but the overt overt displays of nationalism have turned me off somewhat, as has some of the disingenuous bollocks I've heard about the economics of the independence campaign.

Mental outlay for that return on one level...Guy at work has a stack on the 40-45% voting yes. Couldn't get tempted by the odds on this one.

I can see a majority of the the young uns voting for YES. Social media kinda confirms that too.

Could be about right with that, though personally i'd rather a 35-43 % range for reduced odds.

The guy who staked the £900k obviously just sees it as easy money, and a safer approach than chucking it on the stock market maybe, certainly potentially more rewarding that having in the back atm!

Roughly mirrors my view - but ultimately, despite any gratification a YES May bring, I would rather see my country - the UK - not torn apart.

Also I would hope that a NO vote may spur more political reform over the entire UK.

His promises are only worth anything to the Scots while he is still PM, and even then he will be slippery. If NO wins then independence is dead for a long time and the fallout will be more north of the border than in Westminster.

I would like to see some proper political reform across the the entire UK. The current agenda has sparked quite a bit of political debate and interest, even from the likes of me who is completely disinterested in what I regard as a generally broken political system.

I think the home nations should each have their own devolved government which will have absolute control over all "local" affairs (tax, public spending etc). The overall UK government would control areas such as defence, which affect the entire UK equally, and this government could then be more evenly split between the four nations.

:lol:I always thought you were Scandinavian for some reason.

Look, you may well be right, but just sounds low. Polls are so fecking unreliable though and when push comes to shove and you are about to tick the box I can imagine a load of people who were nominally no, switching sides. Would rather stick a few quid on a first goalscorer bet any day.

We are (maybe were) in a union, for the UK, England would be significantly wealthier than all the other member nations if we went it alone. I'd like to keep the union as I think we all have our identities but are better together. I have heard talk around the office about this triggering further separatism, we shall see.

I echo the sentiments of most English people in the thread. Not concerned by the outcome unless it impacts on the strength of the pound.

Atleast 80% of people I know under 20 are voting yes. It's an incredible landslide for that group in my area.

The CNN anchor was just saying that she expected young people to vote overwhelmingly yes but talking to people it seemed it was split. Many young people fearing short term job losses particularly teenagers.

My Facebook timelime is insane, Yes status's/pictures are racking up 100 likes virtually every time and No status's get less than 10 and usually a shit load of abuse.

It's for this reason I expect that the NO voters have generally been quieter and kept their mouths shut. I think the build up to the referendum over the past two weeks has exaggerated the YES votes by nature of those voters being more outspoken and vocal about it.
