Louis van Gaal | Manchester United manager

Unlike when Moyes was around, when our back it is to the walls, our players have not given up. I'm certain that under LvG we will make up the points needed.

Our spirit has been quite impressive despite being down to 10.

I can't remember seeing us play this well with 10 men for a long long time.

There's no such thing. Come back after 38 games and if we're not in the CL, then you could say he's been disappointing so far.
I don't think it's inappropriate to comment on his performance with a quarter of the league gone. I for one am not impressed so far.

Why? They're completely different players?

They're both strikers. I'm sure Aguero could 'do a job' in CM which is all Rooney does.

It's a waste of a top class player, and it's a waste of the midfielders you have sat on the bench.

Keep doing it in big games and it'll continually cost us.

You can't be serious, right? So what is your opinion on LvG's tenure so far?

Its a work in progress that has to be evaluated on a longer time horizon of 38 games. The fact that the squad are in sync with the manager and we are playing better football than last year is encouraging. The results will follow once we're back at full strength.

No point in it really. Unless your goal was winning the Capital One Cup. This is the time to get behind the manager and players, not sabotage them with endless criticism.

We are playing much better football and our players seems to be playing with a swag that haven't been seen at United in awhile. Moyes may have done better with much little, but his philosophy and coaching methodology was not something I could imagine United gaining a good amount of success in. Although, to be fair with Moyes, his approach may has changed if he bought more lively attacking players. Nevertheless, despite the result and his investment I still believe we are heading in the right direction under Van Gaal. It might be beating a dead horse, but with time our result will reflect our performance....

Basically, it's okay to judge his time here so far... provided you haven't been disappointed.

I don't think anyone is trying to judge him as having done well so far, so I don't know what that's supposed to mean.

That still won't change the fact I'm not impressed so far. I fail to see how anyone not being impressed is sabotaging the manager and team. We comment on what we see.

I wasn't talking about you, but the general instant gratification sentiment of claiming he's shite after 10 games.

Good of you to point out.No point getting overly critical, best to support the players and the manager

To be fair, he said he's "been shite", not that he "is shite".
Not saying I agree.

No, I didn't say that. I said he's been shite. Huge difference.

To be fair, he said he's "been shite", not that he "is shite".

Neither actually. If we keep saying it we will never have a manager who has the latitude to succeed at the club.

There isn't much of a difference between having been and being - you're still using a pejorative with the manager.

Worst league start since 86

Most money we have ever spent

Easiest set of opening fixtures I can recall

These are the facts but I was very happy with the performance today not that it counts for much

I still have faith in LVG but he has to take a lot of the blame for our poor results, starting to get annoyed with our inability to convert our chances.

Wasn't LVG fault that tit did what he did today but 9th after 10 games with 13 points is unacceptable.

Pretty much. I actually thought we played some of our best football in those last 15-20 minutes without actually threatening too much.

I'm not sure why you can't just state facts and say you're disappointed with the outcome without getting a dozen people down your throat.

lol at the people saying he is doing worse than Moyes.

Do you honestly think that after going down to 10 men that Moyes would do better?

Opinions on here change constantly.

Must win against Palace. As we got Arsenal after that.

But I thought we were decent until Smalling got sent off.

We played well for the first 15 minutes then it all went down hill. The only reason we got back into it was purely down to City getting nervous.
Saying that Smalling getting sent off is up there with Rooneys red card against West Ham as being one of the stupidest things I've even seen in football.

It's not been the best start but the difference has been a clear change in attitude and style, for as bad as our start has been we are 4 points off 4th in November.

January we need to get a defender or two in though, that much is clear.

Moyes took a title winning side and brought them to 7th. The spine of the side was dismantled before LVG came in and now he has to reconstruct a side of new signings, young players and senior players with little confidence into a team that can take on all comers. The start hasn't been good but he shouldn't be directly compared to Moyes. It's a different set of circumstances.

He's doing worse than Moyes, but you can't actually say that or you get rounded on. Moyes was laughed at for taking the same players that won the league to seventh... LvG has taken the same players that won the league PLUS £150,000,000 in new signings to ninth...
 I'm just going to let you correct that on your own.

We will easily finish in the top 4. If people can't see the vast difference in the way we play compared to last season then they shouldn't be watching football. I'm suddenly very confident again.

I dont think our manager expected di maria, rvp to underperform so much.Of course after the red card, it was a totally different approach but whatever little we could attack had to be through both of them and they did let us down.

How long can we keep saying at least we're performing better than last season without needing something tangible in terms of results to back it up though?

If anyone can't see a difference between last season and this season, then they should give up on football. Last season away to City, we gave our most spineless performance, this season we outplayed them for last twenty minutes with a patched up defense and 10 men.
