Pep Guardiola's Bayern

Three months would be great under the circumstances, we would have him back for the run-in this season.

The irony of retiring from international duty to get more rest for his body and then he injures himself in practice during the international break. Four weeks ago they had Lahm and Alaba, now they have neither. Ouch.

Best part is that our first four goalkeepers are injured. Yes, the first four. At the moment we have a former Bundesligakeeper as an intern (yep, official status), he will most likely start sunday.
Is Lucic still injured? Does our 2nd team even have a 3rd goalkeeper in case we need Zingerle in the first team?

According to transfermarkt Lucic is still injured so Heinz Müller might after all get that contract until the end of the year.

Are top players more injury prone than they used to be or is it just me?

Especially in terms of knee injuries, they definitely are more injury prone than in the past. Bayern's doctor explained, that with the wide success of highly intensive modern pressing, football players have to change directions more often and quicker than in the past, which leads to more strain on the ligaments.

Hope this doesn't damage Lahm's career long-term in the way Neville's injury v Bolton more or less prematurely ended his career.

Yup, the rigors of modern football definitely put more of a strain on footballer's bodies. That said, with improved fitness and conditioning, and clubs spending millions on medical science departments, it's a bit surprising that the bigger clubs often end up with the highest aggregate injury records. Maybe it's because most of them are internationals, leading to greater strain and lesser time for recuperation; on top of contending for 3-4 competitions for their club sides. Puts added emphasis on Fergie's motto of having a larger squad for the medium term.

Also, despite the advances in artificial turfs and studies dissociating them of compounding injuries, one can't shake off the feeling that Desso Grassmaster might be another factor to blame. United has had some bothers in the last 3-4 seasons, but this time around it's been historic. All of that after we relaid the OT turf this summer. As I understand, so did Bayern, and look at them now.

Bit tinfoil hat-ish but perhaps there's something to it something to it ?

Somehow it feels like Robben made a deal with the devil, but instead of selling his soul, he cursed the whole club. He gets to stay fit for an usual long period of time while everyone around him picks up injury after injury after injury.

It's not a bad shout.

It seems that way, but Robben never hand much problems with ligament injuries. It was always about the muscles and those were caused by his lower back.

Reina - Starke - Neuer
Martinez - Badstuber - Alaba - Benatia - Boateng - Rafinha - Bernat
Lahm - Schweinsteiger - Thiago - Alonso - Höjbjerg - Gaudino
Ribery - Robben - Müller - Götze - Shaqiri
Lewandowski - Pizzaro

Only Pizza and Badstuber have a muscle injury. No short injuries - all have or had injuries that take 2 months and more.
The only one that is near his comeback is Schweinsteiger. He started team training last week after being out since the World Cup.

Neuer and Boateng ended their int. spells with bruises, no comments yet about severity. I hear Höjbjerg isn't 100% fit either.

Good thing the only team with the godgiven right to blame any- and everything on rotten luck with injuries is wearing yellow, not red :D

How would you guys rate the chances of a team built around:

---- Neuer/Reina/Starke ----
--- Lahm -- Badstuber -- Boateng
Martinez - Schweinsteiger - Thiago - Alaba
------------- Pizarro -------------

in the CL? i'd say QF with an option for more.

BTW, if i'm not mistaken, Höjbjergs chances of getting released in the winter break just took a deep dive.

I do not believe in a Neuer injury. Last season against England Löw gave the reserve keepers the chance in the last match and Neuer went home earlier. But the media still had to talk stupid about it. This year Löw does it and it is some knee problems... Why should Neuer fly to Spain just to sit on the bench...

Boateng is more of a worry as he has problems for weeks now. And with Hummels etc. already out Löw would not have just let him at home if there was nothing.

All three goalkeepers have to play to make it 11 players.

I somehow deleted my post while editing it after counting the players again...

I'm confident that somebody else will get injured, though, so Starke doesn't have to play winger.

You had to, right? Well done, you can add Müller as the winger now.

And Lewandowski as striker. He got subbed out after a kick in his head.

But Müller was already joking with the journalists afterwards. He has a Pferdekuss (translated kiss of a horse - in case of Ramos it was more a donkey... a contusion or hematome) on his behind... So he probably can play again on Saturday again or Tuesday if Pep gives him more rest. If Lewa is ok there is still enough players for the offense.

Only 3 months for a broken ankle? I thought it'd be a fair bit longer.

On the bright side, we might see more of PEH and especially Gaudino, now that some of the pressure in the league is gone. Not that we're that far ahead, but compared to the struggle everybody expected it all went pretty smoothly. I'd love to see him over 70+ minutes 2 or 3 times.

That Müller-jinx is still nagging me, though...

Some German sites have mentioned (among others like Khedira etc.) Herrera as possible target for Guardiola following the injury of Lahm.

Sounds like complete nonesense to me...

Not much to do with Pep really, but I just read on Kicker that the plan to pay off the 340m the stadium cost over 25 years has gone all wrong............they've paid it off after only 9 years.

Someone should be sacked for poor financial planning surely??

Does this relieve 1860 of their debt I wonder?

What debt? We took over their stadium debt when we bought their half of the stadium in 2006. Since then all they had to pay was 'rent', but were free of the stadium debt. At least that's how I understood the buyout in 2006. 1860 had an option to buy their half back until 2010, but waived it in 2007, when it became clear that they won't ever be able to come up with the necessary money to pay their share.
