Our Rivals Squad next year - Arsenal

Kozza stuck a leg out after Chambers on a yellow made no challenge, Hazard could easily have avoided it but chose to fall over it and get the pen.
Pete I didn't want to do this but

It was a bad tackle

You can see it all encapsulated in the last stills, Hazard lets the ball go and plays himself into Kos.
OK then let's say that Hazard did dive then My original point still stands Koscielny tackle is a best clumsy.

You do think that at least ?

It really wasn't a dive

He was excellent against Barca in 2011 and for France against Spain at the Euro's. On occasion he still looks like there's a mistake in him though.
Just don't see it with him. Bullied far too easy for my liking.
If we were linked with him to solve our problems i wouldn't be happy, while arsenal would gladly take Evans.
Just how I see it

You're vastly underrating Koscielny. Your posts read as if you are basing all your assumptions on the few times Koscielny's mistakes have been highlighted in match reports. Koscielny is also carrying a knock this season so he isn't at his best and when he has played, our defence has looked much better. But he was a rock last year, when he played almost every game when we defended very well (around March 2013 to January 2014).

Evans isn't better than him. I saw that ridiculous backpass against Liverpool and in general this season he hasn't impressed. The guy isn't even a regular starter in what is probably the worst United backline in years. If Arsenal hadn't had just six senior defenders this season, there's no way Evans would be anything more than our fourth choice CB. I think Jones and Carrick are far better defensively than Evans. I'd have Jones in our defence in a heartbeat and he'd fit right in too as Wenger likes to have a versatile player in the squad.

Also quite disappointed to see so many people picking mostly United defenders in their combined XI. Gibbs is probably the most underrated defender in the PL. He has been rock solid for us for some time. At the moment, he is better than Shaw. Sure, Shaw might eventually become the better player but Gibbs is the better LB right now. Rafael over Debuchy would probably be closer but I haven't seen much of either player. Debuchy has looked solid whenever he's played for us, but both have been injured for quite some time this season so I am not going to judge them hastily. Mertesacker and Koscielny are a great defensive pair and would definitely make my combined XI along with Gibbs. The forward line is where United have better players so I agree with people picking more United players there. Will probably make my own combined XI later, in a much shorter post. ;)

One needs to be really biased to pick Evans over Kosc. The later is easily better, has been for while now.

Regarding the starting 11, only Sanchez and Ramsey would Get into it. I'd have Smalling and Jones as the CB. Jones admittedly based more on potential. Kosc has a good case for being there.

Koscielny would waltz into the United side and would be the first CB picked all day everyday.

Notice a pattern in these types of threads where if the majority is from one team, the remaining closer calls go the under represented team.
Take Rojo for example. Take a poll of any international fan on He v Gibbs and Rojo would come out on top. Gibbs hasn't the credentials nor performances v the top teams to warrant a place. LB is still Rojos best position, and you could throw Blind in there due to his and Rojos WC performances.
Ah, but that's not important. At least according to the Everton fans and a fair few United fans on here when it comes to Baines.

I don't really know what Ox has done to get into everyone's first XI, he barely gets into Arsenal or England's first XI when everyone is fit.

It's a flip of a coin Shaw vs Gibbs at the moment, but as a United fan I'm bound to lean to Shaw.

Part of the problem is that he had that mare against us in the Euro Cup semi, when he basically gifted us the tie 10 minutes into the second leg. That's probably harsh, since that was about 5 years ago now and he was probably only just arriving as a player, but these things stick. Ask a City fan about Evans and they'll remember him getting sent off in the 6-1, not his key part as part of a defense that holds the record for most consecutive clean sheets.

Without the impressive performance to prove us wrong, people's opinions have never changed. I must say I've never watched an Arsenal game where I've been impressed by him, but then I'm probably no less biased than anyone else.

Hardly a surprise this season, you only need to be fit and you're in. I think it's widely recognised that our defence is inconsistent, injury prone, shit - call it however you want, but it still conceeded less goals than Arsenal's this season.

This Gibbs is better than Shaw stuff is debatable. Shaw is a very good player right now. Just because he hasn't been around for that long, it shouldn't count against him.I would say this season his standard has been very high. From what I have seen of Gibbs I wouldn't take him over Shaw right now and I am not even talking about potential.

Since we last played, Liverpool have had two away games, one being at Old Trafford so have had three days rest compared to our seven days.

We've won 5 of our last 6 and they've won 2 of their last 8 (could be wrong).

Barring last season we have a great record at Anfield.

Should be able to field 4/5 of our first choice defence and it will be Sanchez, Welbeck, Giroud up against the likes of Toure/Skrtel/Lovren.

Yet I'm fearing a loss, all the chances Liverpool created against Man Utd last week, no way they are so sloppy with their finishing this time around.

It would be just like us to go over there, lose and kickstart their season. We need this result badly, kick Liverpool while they're down and get 8 points ahead of them.

Smalling > Mertesacker.

.....
 Mertesacker has proved himself at the highest level. Smalling has barely played 10 games in a row for United.
You couldn't have picked a comparison that is so wrong even if you tried ;)

Nothing really ever changes for Arsenal. They'll hang around third or fourth, never truly challenging fur a major trophy. The fact alone that Mertesacker is an Arsenal hero tells you all you need to know about their trophy aspirations.

Well, based on that performance Gibbs would be getting nowhere near a combined team at the moment.

Giroud isn't a top top striker but he'll still comfortably end up with more goals than Welbeck. Why they wanted Welbeck that much, I'll never understand.

Mini fist pump by Sanchez.

Actually quite shocked by how bad they were today, truly craven performance. They just stood back in the first half and let Liverpool boss the midfield. Liverpool were shite, but they made them look good. :wenger:

That was as bad a performance as I have seen from Arsenal.

They played better when we dicked them 5-1.

Certainly would be interested in Arsenal fans' take on their performance. Once they get in here.

FWIW, they have a better squad than Man Utd (and Liverpool obviously) and are still my favourites for a clear third spot.

4th spot looking good for Utd, or as good as it was looking for Southampton a month ago.

That's the bizarre thing about the Arsenal though isn't it, they can be utterly pathetic like they were today, but you just know that next game they could hammer a team into the ground. I'd be amazed if they didn't finish at least top 4, probably 3rd.

They don't even play good looking football any more.
I was thinking this while i watched the game, even against us when they were all over us in the first 25 minutes i didnt really see that one/two touch football they did a few years back.

In all the other games i've watched they've not been as easy on the eyes as they once were

Ok, please tell me how they have a better squad then Utd? Liverpool fair enough but thats just a bizarre statement to make when you compare them against each other, they have an even worse set of options in defence then we do for crying out loud.

Explain this logic. I can't think of a single position Arsenal are stronger than us in. Not even midfield these days.
