One of my favourite discussions on any RAWK thread was when someone linked Wikipedias page on Cognitive Dissonance. It fits Liverpool perfectly. They're a weird blend of fan forum, book club, religious cult and support group. I've half a mind to go to the Psychology Department in my college and show them their forum. There might be a paper published. :lol:

I still remember the way I celebrated that Ba goal. Was lying on my couch, the moment he slipped I pounced up off the sofa and onto my feet. As Ba got closer to the goal, I got closer to the TV, as he scored I jumped, fist pumped and realised I was a bit too close to the Balotelly. Then I burst into laughter and at that point I knew the title slipped out of their grasp.

Can we please have a thread dedicated exclusively to the personal write ups on Steven Gerrard. We have some really really great amazing superior writers here and the readers of RAWK will have the privilege of living those Stevie G memories in their mesmerising words.

Not winning is the new winning apparently
In some weird way, and please understand what I'm saying here, him not winning a title may enhance his reputation a little, or at least have him considered separately. He'll be remembered as the best player to never win a title. If he had he'd be compared to Keane, Lampard, Scholes, Vieira etc who won multiple. I dunno, just something that crossed my mind.

To be fair they have had half of the LOTR cast playing for them in Spearing, Flanagan, Adam and Skrtel to name a few.

One man club legend? Is he aware that Gerrard is leaving them for another club?

Half of me wants him to join City or Chelsea and win the league. That place would explode.

That's the beauty of it, they know what's happening but they are so caught up in the love affair that it hasn't hit them that it will actually happen.

Having slept on it overnight and having seen Kenny in his prime, I would suggest that Gerrard is indeed our greatest player ever. One club man (in any meaningful sense of the term), outstanding footballer and very importantly local lad.

I don't think you could call any of those players legends at present. In fact, apart from a few special cases (one club players like Stevie) I think you only realise the value/contribution of a player once they've left/retired or are at the stage of their careers that Stevie is at now.

Lastly, thanks for being proof that there can be a love affair with football. That it's not absolutely entirely fecking cynical. That kids with posters on their walls, dreaming of playing for one club and one club only whichever it may be, actually can grow up to live that fantasy. That it's not solely about the paycheck and the fame and all the bollocks that goes with it.

Quite a few have accepted him going to another club and are sad about it saying they always envisioned him being a one club man. Some others are in denial saying he's a one club man "in any meaningful sense of the term" .... erm.

Tbf, one of the Chelsea regulars on here used to call Lampard a one club man. Apparently West Ham didn't count.

I read the calls for a re-scheduling of the League fixtures last night, it's not right Stevie should play his last game at Stoke**, not fitting and the nasty crowd...

Of course someone is dying to say "who gives a feck what other fans do", but SG is a rare breed of English football, he's made headline news all day and is a national icon whether LFC fans like it or not. So it will be interesting to see if the country wishes to join our loss and pay tribute to a true great.

I won't lie, I broke down before bed last night after this was announced. I was numb after we lost last season and held it together, but this was a bridge too far emotionally. He's the rock of this organization, and I'll weep with everyone else in May.

How the heck can him watching on some illegal stream mean the mls viewing figures will explode?

There's some real masterminds posting in that thread.

He'll do well for the MLS no doubt, but he is no Beckham, and the impact on the leagues perception overall will not be a big one. Phil Collins may see a resurgence around the bars of LA though I suppose.
