Paul Pogba

One thing is for sure, Ronaldo and Pogba have proven the cliché that the only way after United is down is BS.

Pogba made an ingenious choice to leave Manchester United, or rather, Fergie's tutelage... which was faltering in his last few years in my opinion. He has reaped fabulous rewards in footballing progress, his stature in world football and astounding riches (already and much more to come) with this choice.

He takes the piss when he plays. That's the biggest compliment I can give to him.

Do people really believe this at all, though?

No one was critical of him and no one supported Sir Alex decision on him, infact it wasn't Sir Alex decision, the only decision (or feck up) Sir Alex made with Pogba was holding him back and not giving him an opportunity here just like he never with a lot our academy players on his latter years.

It was Pogba who left the club on his own accord and good for him, he knew what was best for his career and probably against the advice of the likes of Sir Alex/Rio Ferdinand, went his own way and is now probably the best youngster in the world.

In the academy though good as Pogba was, Ravel Morrison always looked to be the crown jewel.

Then you see how their careers have panned out.

Has anyone really said this? Those two left the club with their best years still to come so they'll be more remembered for their time after United. Tevez went off and succeeded, as did Pique, Beckham and Van Nistelrooy. Even Rossi to a lesser extent.

No, I remember the outrage at the time when rumours surfaced that he wanted £20k a week. People were pretty harsh on him back then, I don't remember who exactly but if we could dig out the old thread on him there would be some stuff.

I think everyone just thought it was a lot of money for a boy of that age without proving his worth, which was more down to him not being used, than not being talented. He can have his £20k now if he still wants it.:D

Yes, the talent was clear and it wasn't the doubt anyone had. It was his attitude for asking for a raise.

Park and Rafael in central midfield over this guy in a game vs Blackburn which we lost anyway. Then bringing Scholsey out of retirement for half a season to salvage a season in which we went trophy-less anyway. Just let that sink in for a moment.

Ah well, I'm over it. We got him for peanuts, and lost him for peanuts. He doesn't seem like a very loyal player anyway. #ClutchingAtStraws :(

It was never about the money. Fergie said we offered what he and his agent wanted, it was up to the player to decide and he decided to leave. Obviously he made the best decision.

I love the man, but Fergie's record in the last few years with youngsters was atrocious. I doubt any youngster had a chance, no matter how good he was in those last few years.

It annoys me that people feel he should be paid less just because he's young, despite being better than players older than him on far more money. Players should be paid purely on their ability and contribution to the team.

I don't think Tevez won more elsewhere than at United? Beckham certainly didn't. Not sure about Ruud, I don't think he won much full stop did he?

What makes it worse is had we just given him the 20k it would have solved so many problems and we wouldn't be in the predicament we are in now. Pogba provides 10-12 years of quality. It would have made our midfield much stronger, he would have been the type of player to make others around him better but also we wouldn't have been exposed to our failed transfer policy as we have now. Scrapping around for that type of player, paying over the odds and still remaining unconvinced. If Moyes inherited a side with Pogba and he followed through with Thiago and or Strootman for a combined 35m that midfield would have been perfect.

"The only way after United is down". Those guys remained quality players after leaving and won trophies still. Albeit not the same amount but that's their career decision. All the top teams at the present moment can resort to that line when a player leaves. Tevez also won trophies competing against United so he can feel fairly smug about himself!

I know we don't talk about FIFA game here but he is now 5* skiller in the game now. One of the few midfielders to have that.

You don't think City will be looking for a Yaya replacement? Or that PSG would spend £50m on him after David Luiz? Have you been paying attention to the current market.
You're not following. I was amused at the difference in price suggested by different people, I am well aware he will potentially leave Juve for close to a €100 m, thanks.

That's the exchange rate. G4g and NoLogo are just anticipating a crash in the value of the euro when Greece leave the eurozone. :nervous:

Id be sickened if we paid £80million to bring him back. Would almost tarnish fergusons reputation too much, specially after selling ronaldo for the same fee and fergie turning him into the worlds best player, for pogba just to stick two fingers up to fergie and do it all without him and then us be so desperate to bring him back (which we all are), incredibly frustrating. How could Fergie let this happen..

About 1.3 euros to the pound now
My business relies heavily on a European partner and we regularly transfer large sums of money hence I have for forex brokers on the phone regularly... Even the doom and groomers don't seem to be suggesting more than a drop to 1.5 vs the pound
Interestingly though they do seem to suggest the € and £ both falling against the $ so if the Glazers do think in $ perhaps this could be the summer to look at big spending?
Personally I think with the new epl money and a weak € you could see a number of players move over To the uk.
Still would be surprised to see pogba come back here though.

But if that’s the case, then why would he make such a fuss after leaving? I mean, long after he left there were quotes flying around that he was badly treated. This is actually interesting, because if we offered him what he wanted, why would he leave? Obviously Fergie showed no belief in him (the Blackburn game), but that was surely after the wage affair?
I know we should let it go, but it’s difficult for me. I have a thing for midfielders, it’s been a while we had one who I enjoyed watching play.

Aren't people tired of these same discussions about SAF/Pogba/regret/hindsight/etc etc.. ?? Just appreciate (or not) the player without resorting to all the recurrent drama.

That's far too sensible. We all need to continue to reflect like a regretful ex boyfriend. The only way to resolve our emotions is a £75 mil bid to prove to him that we still love him and we can change.

Very early, but he should really be competing for Ballon D'or come the end of the year. This kid is his own planet

He wanted to play. Guarantees. We couldn't / didn't offer that. At least that's my understanding.

Because he didn't play. If he stayed we wouldn't be having this discussion about him being worth £70m now IMO. He wouldn't have played under Ferguson at all which would have held him back a lot and he wouldn't be the same player Juventus made him.

Yeah I think so too, would be quite hard for him to develop in this mess we've had for the last 3 years.
Anyway, as I don't see us getting him (doubt he will come for the second time), if Madrid buy him he will be doing some crazy stats for them I reckon.
