I fail to see what Lahm provides in midfield that others couldn't give us... after over a year of this. I just can't see it.

We're not in it is probably the reason why you feel that. Otherwise no, it's been fantastic bar last night

Yes but from 99 - 08 we got knocked out every season and I thoroughly enjoyed those ones, not really enjoyed the CL since 2009, even the year we lost at Wembley it was a bit meh, maybe I'm expecting too much though.

I saw him live against City last season and he was class. Still though you watch him week in week out. With the midfielder you have, I'd rather not see him playing there unless there are injuries.

The injuries are one reason why he has to play there, but the one thing that should be clear as day to anyone is that a midfield with Alonso plus either one of Schweinsteiger or Lahm is absolute crap. Provides NOTHING.
If, for some ungodly reason, Alonso has to play because Pep loves him so dearly, why not play Lahm at RB and Rode (who at least tried to make things happen) in midfield next to the old spaniard? I'm so sick of this crap.

What do you mean by better? There was no way to improve the treble winning team. We shattered pretty much every record in the league and several records in Europe. Keeping us at that level was already an almost impossible task, let alone make us even better.

The football you played at times this season was absolutely on another level to anything I have ever seen from your team. Of course it didn't last because of Alaba getting injured and him being so vital to the 3-4-3 you played at that time.

Naturally in the end that it will count for little if you had 4 or 5 months with some of the best football every played at your club when at the end of the season no trophies are won but imo it mainly shows that even the best teams can be crippled by an injury crisis.

Well that was fun, we should do this again soon.

For all the talk about how crap we were (and we certainly were), Porto was fantastic. Great intensity, fantastic organisation and determination. Well deserved win.

Only 6 days until the return leg, I doubt we'll get any of our injured players back until then. So we basically have to start the same team again on Tuesday :nervous:

Alex Sandro and Danilo out in the next leg? Anyone else?

God I hate this thing Neuer does every time when he conceedes a goal, fighting for the ball like biggest prick. Probably one of the most arrogant players around.
