Regardless of the finale, aside from The Wire, I consider it to be the best and most rewarding show I've watched. I'm gutted it's ending but it definitely feels like it's the right time to do so, and the second half of the season has been terrific.
Gutted its almost over.
Quite remarkable, the staying power of another non-HBO produced TV series along with Breaking Bad. I didn't think they'd pull it off, but the last season has been fantastic.
It really has, not a bad episode in the season.

Up to season six on my re-watch. Forgotten how much of a let down it is when we see Don cheating on Megan for the first time. Possibly him at his most slimey (other candidates, that secretary just after his divorce, Sally's teacher).
Yeah, Season 6 was probably when I found myself disliking Don the most. Cheating again, with the wife of a friend too, and his cover-up of the whole thing when Sally finds out is quite manipulative.

Still one of the best shows ever on television but, a pretty limp way to go out. Not one great episode in the final batch of episodes. And hell I was damn near expecting Stan to chase after Peggy in an airport. Their phone conversation seemed like something from a completely different show.
Underwhelming finale.
Maybe because I was half expecting Don to slit his own throat at any given moment - not a nice way to watch any TV show.

So I imagine Don accepts himself for who he is now and is responsible for the final thing.
Some of the dialogue was so on the nose. I didn't expect anything big to happen but I also didn't expect it to go with an "ohmmmmm".
I didn't get Mad Men when I first saw it years ago. It felt odd, seems like it wasn't going anywhere. Then after a while I started watching it again and since then watched it a few times over and came to appreciate it more with each viewing.
Brilliant series, everything from writing to acting was top notch, there's no other show like this on television. I'm going to miss it.

Very underwhelming finale. Did not feel the whole Peggie arc in this finale at all. Was surprised that they went with the easy route of giving every character arc a closure of some sort. A lot of things in the final seemed very forced.

Don't know whether the above was true, and it's a tad out there, but it's an interesting thought anyway. I was kinda disappointed Don never went back to New York during the episode, although he at least did have some calls with people.
Overall, it was a weird finale - excellent in some places, but a bit forced in others. Peggy's storyline with Stan, and them getting together, sort of made sense. Or, at least, it would have made more sense if they hadn't shoehorned it into about a 5 minute sequence where they suddenly declare their love for each other. Although the idea of Peggy recognising that there's more than work, and that she can be content in her current position without taking a big job, was interesting.
Joan starting her own company was good too - Richard walking out sort of showed that he, like many man, felt incredibly uncomfortable at the idea of his wife being work-driven while he's at home. Although unlike Peggy, Joan needs work. She's the sort of person who always needs to be doing something.
Roger seems fairly content too. How long it would last for is doubtful, but I felt the implication was that he'll perhaps now settle down in his later years. Certainly, he's not going to get any better than what he has currently.
So yeah, a strange finale, especially when the main character spends half of it at a weird cult in the mountain, but it had its moments too. Far from the shows greatest episode, but it doesn't detract from its reputation either. The little montage as they went through characters was nice, although weirdly felt more movie-like in a sense.

I thought it was great and I agree with the thing Cheesy posted. That's how I interpreted it too.
A very low-key ending that was perfectly in tune with the type of show mad men is. I thought it was great, not something like Breaking Bad obviously, but still great.
I shed a tear when Peggy barked a Draper-esque "what?!?" down the phone at Stan.

I don't think they left it too ambiguous whether Don went to NY or not. Seemed pretty obvious that he did.

It is also disappointing that in the end Don just simply returned to his old(existing) life and pretty much being the same as before. They could have had this kind of ending back in S2 itself when Don first visits Ana draper.

Yeah it felt obvious the whole ending meditation was Don letting go of his former self, and basically the whole of Mad Men was Dick not accepting who he was. That was the closure. The line 'I took someone's name and made nothing of it' (or similar) hit very hard, for me.

I think it was pretty perfect except for the Peggy bit.
Yeah the more I think of it, the more I think so too. The Peggy part was actually an alright closure for her character, but it felt so forced to do it in five minutes like that.
Good ending to a great series. Mad Men has been a fantastic show over the years and I enjoyed every season. I will miss it.
Sad Man's fridge monologue didn't really work for me, but the coke advert at the end was perfect.
I didn't really like the montage, it felt too cheesy but apart from that I felt it was a good conclusion.

Rogers cracks me up all the time.Upon reflection, I feel like the whole Peggy/Stan thing would've worked better if they'd have been drunk.
I feel like the ending was suggestive of a lot more than that though: yes, Don's going back to New York and to advertising, but it felt like a redemption of sorts. He's not necessarily going to be a great person, but I do think it implied that he'll at least become a slightly better person, who's there for his kids when they need him, and who perhaps isn't as much of a cheater if he goes into future relationships.
Thought the finale was great. Kept wondering how they were going to wrap up Don's story with 30 minutes left, 15 minutes left, 7 minutes left... Absolutely perfect with him meditating on a cliff in Monterey and the idea goes off in his head. That smile when it comes to him.
Looking back on it, my only issue with the finale is that everyone, for the most part, got a neat and tidy, happy ending. It's a small quibble really, but definitely not in rhythm with the show in general.
Can't believe it's all over. I'm gonna miss these characters.
