Carragher talking sense. Making mistakes is part of the job, especially if you take the initiative and try to push your team.

The Ramos bashing on here is hilarious. Just because he acts like a cnut against Barca (most players do) and Atletico (against Costa and Mandzukic (2 cnuts)), people hate him. Most other games he is normally more or less calm, does his little fouls do get the better of the strikers when needed and it is successful.

He was and is one of the best defenders around in the last 5 years, is pretty much the complete player and still gets hated for doing his job properly. The worst thing is the hate keeps people ignoring his obvious qualities.

The Spanish Vincent Kompany.

Also he's just playing games to get a pay rise.

@Vato how good would you rate Ramos as a defender compared to his contemporaries?

I just am a bit unsure about him.
Ramos aerial ability is really up there with the best I've ever seen. From what I remember Helguera was not bad with headers himself but nothing compared to Ramos. Hierro might have been a better defender with more presence than Ramos but give me Ramos every day of the week. His all round game is fantastic. He has also scored some vital goals for us, he's the complete modern defender for me.

I'll be honest, I'm not really worried that he'll leave. I just can't see it happening. If he did, it would be the surprise of the summer for me. That said, we also have a big talent in Varane who will want more and more playing time and we're talking about Madrid and Perez, so you can't be 100% sure what that fool is thinking.

Ramos is brilliant in the air, he's really developed into a cracking player from the long haired beckham lookalike that he used to be

I'm just glad to see us fecking with Madrid for a change and openly courting their best players. Even if he stays it'll cost that cnut Perez way more than he wants to pay thanks to us.

Ramos' aerial ability is legendary only on the offensive end. Defensively he's quite mediocre in defending aerial balls due to lazy marking or height disadvantage (standing leap vs. running up at offensive headers, big difference). Refer to the Mathieu goal in the last Clasico, Pogba's assist in the CL and a load of other examples. I'm sure I could come up with at least half a dozen more examples from the last 2 seasons alone if I did a little research, I certainly know that he makes a meal of defending set pieces/aerial balls a lot from watching the games regularly but I haven't memorized all the exact games.

Sums up this whole transfer rumour.

Real Madrid are really despicable. Let Sergio leave, he isn't a slave!

Does anyone think Utd will get Ramos? he is terrific from set pieces and him and Otamendi would be such a great partnership if the club could pull both.

Sounds good, but Chris Smalling is better than the pair of them hehe

Contrary to what I thought the press is being quite hard with Ramos, for his attitude, even Guti, who is a "pundit" sometimes have just said

"If Ramos wants to go, it is harmful to the club if he stays"
and Inda, ex director of Marca (a prick but with good information" has said that the club really thinks that Ramos wants to leave, that is not bluffing

Looking good...

Cant say I agree.
Ramos' behavior influences the play too with his fouling, dirtiness and so on.
But you're all for that to get a win so that's that.

Well I feel with that dirtiness also comes the benefit of a strong influence on our players. We'll get a bit of a spine and menace about us. I would like seeing Ramos being an annoying twat to the opposition.

Think about it, if you were a child of the club and you were planning a long term future there, wouldnt you have publicised a reaction to dismiss the rumours ? The longer the radio silence from the Ramos camp the more i believe we actually have a realistic chance in rolling the lad in.

Ramos for an experienced stimulans to the defense
Schneiderlin, a Carrick-ish type of signing who can prove to be vital for club objectives
Schweinsteiger, an extra presence who will contribute with experience.

If we can sneak in a RB or a striker aswell that would be one hell of a magnificent summer.

The more noise the better for him of all he wants is a better contract. He holds all the cards here.

He may be looking for a new challenge. The PL is the world's most prestigious league and United are the biggest club.

It's an attractive challenge, for sure.

Let's see...

AS and Marca both hate his guts, so that's probably a good sign.

Ramos: 1,83m ; 75 kg

Vidic: 1,90m ; 87kg
Terry: 1,87m ; 90kg
Rio: 1,89 m ; 87kg
Smalling: 1,92; 81kg
Ivanović: 1,88m, 86 kg

Ana Ivanovic 1,84; 69kg (tennis player)

just saying- comapare his frame to EPL top defenders.

I agree completely. Please, please, please let us sign Ana Ivanovic

I highly doubt that's the case for any Spanish speaker.

I don't think it's even debatable. Other than El Classico, it's global reach is miniscule compared.

That's not to question the dominace of the top two in Spain. Clearly they have the biggest pull in football, but the PL is by far the number 1 league.

The old debate so beloved in England. I do not think a Swansea - Stoke and Leicester - Aston Villa assures me more entertainment, passion or goals than Malaga-Celta or Granada-Levante . Even I am sure than any of these teams would pay for the players from la liga two or three times more than the Spanish clubs have paid , Gabriel Paulista is an example that comes to mind from January market but it will happen again this summer . Tackles, pace, physical confrontation , headers, crosses into the box, all this for me is synonymous with rough play and nothing flashy . For me it is more valuable the passing game , players who know what to do with the ball and tactic and I love a good fight protesting to the referee or even a crafty diver to win the three points. The typical answer is that in Spain there are only two teams, but actually in England is the same + lately the new rich clubs joining the fight, besides I don´t believe that the medium high level teams , Tottenham , Liverpool, Everton, etc would win easily to Athletic , Sevilla and Villarreal . I really like the Premier , the atmosphere of the stadiums , chanting , fidelity to the players and the appearance of gallantry/chivalry that wraps everything
but I would never change it for la liga , perhaps because it 's what I've always known. However I must admit that the Premier sells his product much better

If by "prestigious" or "best" you actually mean "richest", then yes, the PL is the most prestigious league in the world.

The global reach of the Premiership far outweighs any other league including La Liga.

If the debate is which is more global, then of course. Here the clubs are starting to find out the asian market.I said that premier sells the product very well, a product based in a constant current of players and football influence from la liga

Or put it this way. Barca, Real, Atletico and Valencia versus Chelsea, City, Arsenal and United. Not much of a contest at the moment.

What the PL does have is competitiveness -- the big teams will lose more, but that could easily be due to the fact the big teams aren't as good as Real and Barca.

That's exactly it.

picked up and ran with in Spain.

Honestly its such a tedious argument.

Why do you think it is so popular? It’s simply down to entertaining matches and a competitive league.
The Premiership broadcasts to 212 territories around the world, and has just fewer than 100 broadcasters, far more than any other league.
Is it the best league in terms of teams? That’s simply down to personal judgement, however in terms of revenue, audience, heritage, culture and history the Premiership far outweighs any other league
