Reality is there are few players that have won as much as he has and he has been consistent through out his career. Whilst he may be one of the better defenders of our generation, sadly our generation of defenders isn't all that great to previous ones.
Is he as good as Baresi, Moore, Beckenbauer, Desailly? No, probably not.
Even if someone thought Ramos was completely shit he'd still be a step up from Evans so everyone would be excited by that.

Winning titles and medals won't make him one of the best defenders. For the record Helguera is more decorated than him, even Mascherano is, yet are they one of the best from their generation?
He's not even the best defender in Real at the moment, Pepe is.

Helguera has 10 trophies, Ramos has 10 club trophies alone. Add in the 3 international trophies and a ridiculous amount of individual honours (defender of the year 3 times in La Liga, also in the FIFA team of the year 5 times) there really is absolutely no comparison with Helguera to Ramos.

Only for this season. Since they have been teammates Pepe has generally out performed Ramos at CB.

I get what you're saying, but that thread you've linked me to is three years old. Ramos' best form at CB has come in the last few years -- it's only really since 12/13 that people have unanimously considered him to be a world class CB.
Random and not really transfer related but I was at the Champions League final last year and happened to be recording when Ramos scored the equaliser. I was pretty gutted but it was quite a moment

I don't know if you have noticed but Mascherano plays as a CB for Barcelona.
Those were the best 4 years of his career because Messi turned into the best player in the World,their 3 midfielders were having their best years and Alves bossed the right side of the pitch on his own. . Individually he was probably better pre 2008.
