Am I missing something, or is this just bad? We are in the exact same situation as this season so far, with Romero likely to go on to be our no. 1. I'm probably missing something blatantly obvious but I would have much preferred him to leave and Navas + cash to come.

Though I think we've handled it fairly well, the best thing would have been to put a firm deadline and told him if we don't get our valuation by a certain date, we are not selling him at all this close season. It's up to the buying club to show they have enough interest in buying him as we want to hold on to him as we really value him. Tell him see if the other club truly values you.

That's what they did, though. They obviously told Madrid a price a while back but Madrid refused to pay it. Van Gaal himself made it clear that they would sell for a fair price weeks ago.

Ridiculous if it's not happened. More incompetence from the club.

How can the fact that we've spent 6 games playing with a number 2 keeper - entirely to our own teams detriment - and we've left this deal to the last possible day (minute in fact), for no reason in the end, as we didn't get the £35m we apparently wanted, or Ramos/Bale/Jesus Christ, leave you impressed?

Genuine question - I genuinely feel we've handled this incredibly poorly.

By the sounds of it, the transfer is off!

I think we screwed up not making him sign before. But after that, we had no negotiating power with the player and very little with Madrid. What could we do except play brinkmanship?

True or not, the deal would've been nice for us either way. Madrid's fault for leaving it so late, the ball was ALWAYS in their court.

Surely can't be true - the deal was reported hours ago, they can't have fecked it up with all that time left

Why would you want this to be true?
We miss out on the money, have a goalkeeper the manager won't play and have Utd's name smeared again where transfers are concerned.

I think it's a disaster personally.

Agreed. Would liked to have this whole sage done with and be able to move on... now we're looking at another year of this shit. But Real tried to play it cool and leave it late. That's my take on it anyhow.

He'll play, if he wants to play at the Euros, he'll play well.

Madrid also have a keeper now who knows the club don't want him and will use him to get what they want.

Happy if it hasn't gone through. De Gea will be number 1 again once the window is over.

He is staying for the worst possible reason

Our admin teams sheer incompetence and further makes us look like we are run by a bunch of clowns
Madrid leave it too late to get things done on time and its still Uniteds fault?

Mate, you should work for the papers.

Ballbags on SSN now. Apparently everything was signed and confirmed on De Gea's part, but we sent Navas' contract back too late or something. De Gea was waiting in Edurne's house

If we left it til an hour before the window closed to try and sign a player and the paperwork didn't get filed in time, would you blame the selling club?

Somehow I doubt it.

Our under 21's will have a class keeper this year though. On the positive side
