Walking back from Old Trafford and I'm seething... That was fecking garbage, especially the second half, which was laughably bad.

It's alarming how as soon as you don't have Bastian, Carrick, Herrera or Mata on the pitch, we have nobody in the team who actually wants the ball.

A draw is not too bad. We can't win every f*cking game. Depending on results we could lose Wolfsburg and still qualify.

Also win Saturday and we're top of the league. I'm quite content.

If you can't beat PSV at home and lose to them away you don't deserve to qualify. That's it.

We just have so little quality

This is the most ridiculous thing about it all. We've spent a fortune and yet we have no game changer whatsoever. Attacking wise we don't have a single world class player. Heck, I'm not even sure we have a world class outfield player at all. We are miles off the best.

for those questioning the Bastian sub...I knew he would not last the full game especially with the pace we were playing the first half and the Lecister match Saturday. LvG expected to wrap up the match in the first half.

We should have started with Young. I dont know why in such a vital match we still went with Memphis. His goal Saturday should not have had a bearing.

LVG all but lost the game for us. We were at least creating chances before his ridiculous subs. I mean the Fellaini sub is shit just in isolation but seriously... Subs in Fellaini to have him in the box (you would think) and plays him deep in midfield for 10-15 mins. Subs in Young (no problem with that) to get crosses in to Fellaini who plays deep in midfield. Moves Fellaini up as a no 10 to get him in the box and then moves Young, who is supposed to play crosses to Fellaini, to right back. I mean, what the feck?

Edit: Or were we playing 3-5-2 in the end? I don't even know. What a mess.

I've been a staunch LVG supporter since the beginning, but I think I'll go neutral now.

Despite getting youth through, stabilizing us, getting back CL, rebuilding the squad, and being second in the PL, we have obvious deficiencies that keep us from being a top that which Van Gaal doesn't look like he can correct.

He cannot adapt to the opposition, he cannot inspire any passion or desire in this team, especially when they are down, he cannot get the best out of his attacking players, he has been getting his substitutions wrong regularly, and he is too stubborn with a philosophy that doesn't work at all when we need it.

These dire succession of draws are worse than losses because they are not being taken as seriously. We need goals, and LVG can't seem to get them.

Owen seems really pissed off, even Lineker seems frustrated

Look at the players we had on at the end: Young, Fellaini, Rooney, Martial, Lingard. They're just not good enough (barring potentially Martial)

There is absolutely no cohesion between defence and attack.

It's like LVG has said to the team - Schmidfield and the back 4 need to concentrate on keeping a clean sheet, the front 4 need to attack the team and get the goals. There are no players linking the two. This is where we miss Herrera.

It's cowardly in a way, we just aren't prepared to attack with any intent, the players are more hellbent on keeping their positions.

if this isn't a knee jerk emotional post I don't know what is!

I was sat in the Arsenal end watching us get absolutely rinsed only a few weeks ago.
This wasn't nearly the worst performance of the season tonight!
With all due respect, that's a load of codswallop. To say that second half wasn't one of (if not the) worst performance of the season is nonsensical.

We were appalling.

Much respect to the optimism.

Unfortunately Herrera is injured. So it wasn't going to improve. Even if he plays badly he can still produce a pass that can lead to a goal. I hope he isn't out for long.

Beyond shite. i was fecking delighted when we appointed LVG. I thought he was an attack minded coach that was going to revolutionise our play. I'm so disappointed in his tenure.
Agree with this. I thought we would become an exciting team to watch again after Moyes but instead we get this? It's not like this performance is some sort of an anomaly either, it's the norm. Performances like the one against Everton or last season against Tottenham and Liverpool are few and far between and I'm seriously not even looking forward to our games anymore, something I couldn't imagine when he was appointed.

We defend brilliant as a team but don't attack as one. None of the centre mids get forward and neither of the fullbacks overlap.

Our attacking personel are no world beaters but they're better than this and at the moment whichever 3/4 are picked they're being tasked with beating teams on their own as everyone else sits behind the ball at all times.

There's no risk and no invention but it's team wide not just the forwards

Beginning to feel this way. The players up top just don't cut it.

They had plenty of good openings in the first half and botched every single one.

Yes its still doable and I think we still will get through but that was pretty pathetic.

As an aside the RTE panel are creaming themselves after that performance and Robbie Savage actually makes me want to write a letter of complaint for the first time in my life such is my anger at his commentary.

To those who keep saying we don't have quality, well, THE PLAYERS WE HAD OUT THERE ARE SUPERIOR TO WHATEVER TEAM PSV PUT OUT. This is the turning point for me, I'm so done with this management team, LVG can do one. Needed a win to qualify, at home, against a very poor team & we served up the most gutless performance I've seen from a United side, especially in that second half. For 90 minutes we played like there was nothing at stake, how about some motivation? I'm done.

We could drop out of a group which was possibly the most favourable draw of them all... Pathetic!.

We have failed to score against N'castle, Boro and PSV at Home.... AT HOME!!!...

Been watching and supporting United for 2 decades now and this performance has to rank among to top 5 worst during that time..

Zero urgency.. Zero will to push on and get a winner.. Heck we didn't even get out of the so called first gear.. :(

I am afraid we might get knocked out as we have to win and Wolfsburg need a point to secure qualification.. They won't make it any easier..

We have to progress to the next round.. But I fear it might be very difficult.. I truly hope I am wrong..

The game just died of any intensity as soon we had our double substitution.. And we should have brought Mata in earlier.. Heck Sir Alex would have thrown in another striker in Wilson.. But that's not the point.. Should have made the third sub earlier..

Feels like they had more chances on the break than us.. And all the deliberating on the ball with no clue.. God that was painful to watch.. :(

I hope we get someone to add more attack to our team.. We missed Ander probably for his movement around the ball and his passing..

Depressed at the moment with the result.. I truly hope we turn it around for the weekend..

It just seems like 3 or 4 players are our attack and we don't attack as a team. LVG is clearly too controlling on their positioning and their freedom to move around the pitch. It creates consistancy and predictability which are strengths and weaknesses at the same time. He's not the guy thats going to bring amazing football but it doesn't mean he's not the right manager for now. 3 year contract seemed about right at the time, and it still does for me. It's all about delayed gratification. This will all pay off if the next manager is "the one".

Well imagine not having all four of your creative midfielders on the pitch then creating nothing. As soon as we appear to have fixed one problem (latest being wing play), another arises.

We continue to show we can do the basics in defence and midfield, but no progress has been made in the transition or the final third. At first it's acceptable to play slowly but precisely. We should really be up to speed by now though..

No one is stepping up and owning that creator role. Not Rooney, not BFS. Martial was starved of chances and we didn't see memphis or lingard get slipped in enough either.

Another thing which is quite obvious is the lack of movement. When the midfielder has the ball he looks forward and all three forwards are marked. Everyone is rigidly in position, no one seems to be actively searching for angles in the final third.
Maybe once or twice you see them do it, it should be natural by now. They should be interchanging and pulling defenders out of position. Not so.

Are we still playing with handbrake on? Is this the extent of LvG's coaching, is he instructing them to play cautiously? Or are the players lacking confidence?

Great first half. Great start to the second half. And then, what I expected to happen happened - take BFS out and we were all over the place and couldn't create nothing. We've been there done that before this season.

Winning at Wolfsburg is not impossible but incredibly difficult.

Shit this was bad. That Fellaini - Schweinsteiger sub was something else.. And leave Mata on the bench until 5 min before the end. And why Louis whyyyyy did you then think moving Rooney down to cm and Fellaini on top was something?? Rooney was done after 55 min... Shit this was bad, I am starting to have my doubts about lvg.. Wolfsburg away and needing to win, PSV at home surely sounds easier..

I'd also pack LvG's bags. There's no passion, energy or risk in the team.

Who would you want to replace him? I'm not quite at the stage that I want to get rid of him but it is becoming more and more of a chore watching us, we lack the spirit that made me love football and in particular United.
