Having Carrick on there really mata'd. The ball would have been recycled sideways or backwards with any other midfielder instead of the pass forward. Rarely goes backwards does our Carrick.

So true. In the lead up to that goal, he played 3 or 4 sharp and incisive forwards passes. Nothing revolutionary but it makes such a difference just putting the balls in places that force the oppositions to turn or adjust.

From what I've watched we've played well.

But then again this is a championship side.

Shows what we can do, the problem is doing it when pressed. And I honestly think it's a confidence thing so if we can continue this against Stoke without panicking then you start to build momentum.

Louis van Gaal actually criticised us for not playing football even with the pressure instead retreating back into our own half a few weeks back, I'd imagine it's something we've worked on in training a fair bit over the past month.

Stoke will be a good test, with Rooney resembling a footballer and either Herrera or Mata behind him, we might be able to play when pressed that said I still think Mata and Carrick won't deal with it well but hope for them to prove me wrong, they did last season.

Rooney hasn't been terrible in about a month, its madness I tell ya.

This is because the positions he gets the ball are so much better, facing forward with a bit of space, mostly in the final third. He doesn't get involved in the build up as much and he shouldn't because his control in tight spaces is poor and in a possession based system this is disastrous.

We were decent, but Derby were also exceptionally shite. We won via two moments of quality from Martial and Rooney.

BoJack and Varela were also very good and deserve credit.

Will give us a confidence boost, though.
