Television The Caf' Anime Thread

The Sky Island Saga sounds promising, they've not got there yet but the last few eps have been really good (I'm at 146 next I think).
I don't like Skypiea, after Skypiea though it gets soooo good, an advice from me is start reading the Manga the arc after the war.

At what point is One Piece meant to get good? I've read about 15 chapters and it isn't really particularly good so far

One Piece spoilers (up to episode 151 now):

I'm really curious about this D. stuff ever since Nico Robin mentioned it. Just seen Blackbeard is called Marshall D. Teach as well. Wondering if it's all a big family or something.

No one has been able to divine the exact theory behind the 'Will of D', though you'll find speculative pieces on various fan forums (one of the more popular ones suggests that the carriers of D 'doesn't afraid of anything' - like Roger laughing when he about to die, or Luffy doing the same at Logue Town - hence the D symbolism). So far, we know that it's carried by certain families/ individuals - Gol D Roger, Monkey D Dragon, Portgas D Ace, Monkey D Luffy - and has something to do with the 'Void Century'. Some characters are more clued up than the others (in terms of knowing the origins/ significance of 'D'), but the true meaning is never revealed though them. It's one of the biggest teasers in One Piece. Reckon we'll never find out till the very end because the mangaka keeps the cards close to his chest.

I've watched over 100 episodes and I am still struggling to enjoy it to be honest. Even stuff like Sword art online have interested me more.

I have no idea why really but it just never caught me. I kinda enjoyed the desert arc but after that I lost momentum again. Seems to be too much filler.

It was heavily teased last arc though, I'm thinking we'll find out sooner rather than later.

How good is Deathnote guys?

My friend can't stop recommending it.

Possibly the most popular and highly rated anime series, I think pretty much every anime fan has seen it. It's one of my favourites without a doubt, it's just so tense right the way through. Hopefully any high expectations won't ruin the experience for you should you decide to watch it, but it's a pretty fantastic series so I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

That's that then - 12th episode out. Not overly impressed by ERASED to be honest. Was exceptional for the first sort of half dozen episodes, could hardly wait to see the succeeding episodes - plateaued for a bit, and the ultimate conflict resolution with Satoru seemed too contrived. Really promising at the beginning, but feel that they could have done so much more with the concept - like, even Puella Magi Madoka Magica's concept of time travel (let alone Now and Then, Here and There or Steins; Gate), and entropy seemed more evolved - despite being a small element of the overall story instead of the primary point of emphasis wrt the plot.

I am watching Full Metal Alchemist really slowly, but I am loving it. It is fantastic!

By really slowly, do you mean 18 episodes per day as opposed to your usual 20?
Not really . I've started it 3 weeks ago and have watched just 16 episodes so far.

I don't have much time at the moment. It is just a few episodes each weekend.

Anyone have a anime to recommend me?
I enjoy a lot of fighting animes, but can't seem to find more that fits my liking.
The ones I've watched (or are watching as they get out) and enjoyed, so you get a notion of what I'm into: Berserk, Bleach, Sword art online, Log Horizon Naruto, Brave 10, Chrome shelled regios, Claymore, Devil May Cry, Hellsing + OVA, Densetsu no Yuusha No Densetsu, Dragon ball, Fairy Tail, Fate/stay night, Unlimited Bladeworks & Zero, FMA+B, Shinsengumi Kitan, Hunter x Hunter, Inuyasha, Kaze no Stigma, Magi, Shura no Toki, Nurarihyon, Ranma 1/2, Rurouni Kenshin, Toaro-series, Darker than black, Tokyo Ghoul, One Piece, The Devil is a part timer and more I probably can't remember.

Complete turn-offs for me are mecha. Tried Gundam & Neon-genesis evangelion, but it just doesn't sit with me despite liking power rangers as a kid. :(

I'm also open to shows like monster, death note, code geass etc, but while i enjoyed the latter two, i somehow didn't enjoy monster, i'm not sure if it's down to artwork or the pacing.

Oh, if there is a sports anime on par with Kuroko No Basket I'd probably check it out too.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Space Dandy, Spice and Wolf, Texhnolyze, Usagi Drop, Death Parade, Serial Experiments Lain, Shigurui, Claymore, Michiko to Hatchin, Noragami, Yamato 2199, RAINBOW, Black Lagoon, Basilisk, Arakawa Under the Bridge, Planetes, Blood+, Hibike! Euphonium, Canaan, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Last Exile, Noein, Casshern Sins, D.Gray-man, Psycho-Pass, Kara no Kyoukai, Haibane Renmei.

Chihayafuru, Ace of Diamond, Prince of Tennis, Haikyuu!!, Eyeshield 21, Hajime No Ippo.

Ippo is awesome. Also for any sports fan SLAM DUNK. Don't give a s..t about basketball yet got hooked instantly. So good

Boy and the Beast by Mamoru Hosoda has released recently. Excellent film.

Any fans of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure? The first episode of Part 4 just came out, and it's brilliant :D

After reading the entire manga it's still my favourite part so I'm really excited about how the anime will portray it.

Is it worth checking out? I was recommended it a while back but it looks bare weird haha.

You could say it's bizarre ;)

Give it a shot, it's got some great characters and fight scenes. Each part has its own separate story so there isn't any big overarching plot, but the parts are linked in some way. The manga is up to part 8 now.

I'd say watch parts 1 and 2. Collectively they're only 26 episodes (9 episodes for part 1, 17 for part 2). Part 3 is a whopping 48 episodes, it does get even crazier from there as the types of 'powers' shown by the characters changes drastically (and pretty much stays the same throughout the rest of the series).

One thing to note though, a lot of characters/powers are named after famous musicians/songs/albums. Some official subtitle groups don't use those names as they're worried about copyright issues so don't be put off when you can clearly hear a character say 'Vanilla Ice' but the subtitle says 'Cool Ice' or something.

Hajime No Ippo is the ultimate sports anime / tv show.

One Punch Man??

How about manga? If you like reading there's a ton of amazing MA manga out.
Holyland the most realistic martial arts manga i've read. Or The Breaker (if you like special powers, great art, decent story)

I know you guys have talked about it before, so I'm checking out Parasyte, so far (14 eps in) I'm enjoying it.
I do have a nagging feeling they won't fully disclose how the parasytes came to be though, even if they seems to have been made by humans from what i can gather so far.

Forgot to reply!
Twiggy asked me to check out one punch man, but the idea of someone always winning with 1 punch just doesn't feel like a show I'd enjoy.
I know it's supposed to be a bit like Gintama, in that it takes a laugh at other animes, but I never really got into Gintama either.
I do read the Bleach manga (just to get to the proper... end of the series), but apart from that I find it hard for me to focus enough when reading mangas after my transplant.

I did enjoy reading Ranma 1/2 and DBZ when i was young though.

Gintama pokes fun at other anime, OPM is a parody about superheroes. Believe me you'll enjoy it more than u ever thought you would. When i started reading it at first i couldnt read past chapter 3 but then came back a few months later and binge read both versions- even bought 4 volumes of manga. Its really enjoyable - and *** art from Murata - eye candy
