Martial vs Origi

Some compare Origi to Welbeck but it seems to me that Origi has more tools than Danny. Origi looks stronger, has a better balance and manipulates the ball better in tight spaces. This combination of power, pace and dribbling ability may establish him among the best EPL forwards next season.

Way too knee-jerk. Origi was fantastic in the last few games, but that's it, just a couple of games. If he turns shit now, then everyone will laugh about the comparison. With Martial it's not just a few games, he is having a great debut season for a 19-year-old. I agree that a comparison Rashford vs Origi would make more sense right now. With Martial I am already sure that if he isn't mismanaged or injuries feck him up he will be a star, can't say that about Origi or Rashford yet.

Guys, Origi is not some random youngster who's played well 2-3 games. He's been a Belgian international for some years now, he played for Belgium in Brazil two years ago when nobody on here knew that Martial existed.

So what?

People will probably get really defensive of Martial and fair enough. But Origi has done really well in the last few weeks, looks like he's had a big zap of confidence and is growing from it.

He's a big lad, quick and strong. He's got the tools but looks a bit raw.

He and Martial re clearly very different players. He's more of a Lukaku type and there's plenty of place for that in the PL. Fair play to him. Klopp is getting the best out of him at the moment but he's got a long way to go.

Even harder to compare when Martial is out on the left and Origi is up front. I think Martial just oozes class though, haven't got that feeling from Origi yet.

Fair enough, my personal feeling is that Origi oozes enormous raw power and can quickly establish himself as one of the top strikers in the EPL. Might be quite wrong though, time will tell etc. Martial is far more elegant and better to watch. His close control is superior, obvioisly.

He also played in France after the World Cup and was voted worst player of the year and he didn't set the world on fire before the last few games at Pool either. And Martial was great for Monaco too when they had their good run in the CL, the only thing why you heard nothing of him before is probably because he is only 19, difficult to have already 3,4 good seasons at that age.

Yeah I don't see much point in comparing them now. It would probably make more sense to do Origi vs Rashford and Sterling vs Martial. Or just let them develop as players and see.

A month ago that topic would look ridiculous. Origi has played pretty well in the last games but was pretty average for Pool before that.

Doubt Origi would get anywhere near the France squad. It's easy to confuse a player who's going through a good patch and if form with a player with more ability and better overall package but going through a relatively lean period.
I have seen every Liverpool game this year and seen Origi play for Lille Belgium and Liverpool.
I don't think it's close.

Martial has proved himself consistently over the season, Origi is a good talent but I suspect this is a purple patch

Young players can be quite inconsistent in their development. Voting a player who just turned 19 the worst player of the season doesn't sound great to me. Surely, there was a reason why a 18 y.o. teenager made the Belgium squad for the WC in Brazil.

Rooney looked much better than C. Ronaldo when both were 18. The suggestion that Ronaldo could become much much much better player than Rooney would have been laughed off back then. I'm not saying that Origi is going to become a big star or something but he is not some random guy either. He's been regarded as a special talent for years.

This thread will look as hilarious as the Old Ronaldo comparisons in a few years.

OrJanuzaj vs Sterling, Welbeck vs Sturridge and countless others. This place will always overrate our youth and downplay others.

Fair enough. However, maybe it's easy to overllok the potential of a player who isn't elegant on the ball and whose first touch may look erratic.

Players develop at different rates. I'm sure young Drogba was quite unimpressive. Where did he play when he was 20?

Edit: "By age 21, Drogba realised that he had to establish himself as a player soon or else he would have little chance of becoming a professional footballer. He made his first team debut for Le Mans soon thereafter and signed his first professional contract in 1999."

Two months ago, the suggestion that Rashford could be quite useful for the first team would sound ridiculous. We are talking about young players here, they may make progress in leaps and bounds over 7-8 weeks.

Welbeck is better than Sturridge though. Plus Martial isnt really our youth.. He's a great player we signed from Monaco.

Hardly the same to be fair. Rashford is 18 and wasn't given a run in the first team up until this point which is understandable. Origi at 18 was playing for the first team but in much inferior league and club.

Origi has been touted for some years now, but IMO hasn't progressed the way he was expected to. Martial at least had a solid season in France first and another one here now as well so he's ahead in terms of development if you compare them.

To me since that WC which was 2 years ago up until this point Origi has stagnated in his development a bit(like Ox for example). A comparison with Rashford is better one IMO. They have hit a good form roughly at the same time.

Origi might gone on to be the better player. Nobody can tell. But now if I was going to pick on on my team, it will be Martial ten out of ten times.

I agree about that and even wrote it in the OP. I'm not taking anything from Martial. He is very special. The question is whether Origi is special too. I tend to think that this might be the case. But it is normal that many are sceptical. I agree also that Origi has stagnated in his development but maybe things change right now and he makes a huge step forward.

I think we should give it a little more time to give a proper assessment. Origi has hit some top form but from what I've seen of him in the beginning of the season he's too hit and miss. Naturally that's the case with young players, but there are so many of them that show some flashes of brilliance and then get over their heads it's hard to judge based on 1 good month or so. If we're talking purely by ability Martial is still better as IMO he reads the game better and is the more intelligent player while roughly the same agility wise.

If he continues his good form then yeah it's a step in the right direction, but it's too early IMO.

Yes but it's not like he has set the league alight.

Where has Origi been the rest of the season? With Sturridge in the physio room?

Not taking the mickey, genuinely wondering, given Liverpool have looked devoid good options up front with Sturridge out. I mean, Benteke's been playing regularly!

Well, surely. I tend to make some risky predictions and to trust my gut. Watching Origi in the last few weeks I've come to the conclusion that he's got enormous potential but who knows, he may turn out to be another Babel or something. He was unimpressive ealier in the season and this could be a purple patch, of course. I think it is more than just a purple patch but the remaining games will tell us more.

And he was chosen as the worst player of Ligue 1 or something too. Origi that is

Martial all day every day. Martial plays in a frankly crap and static attack.

Origi is benefiting from better players around him and playing in a more positive system. I'm not saying Origi is crap, I'm just saying Martial is better.

Better players?

Rashford has outperformed this guy

Coutinho, Firmino etc have out performed our three who play behind the striker this season.

I agree that Origi has played with more creative players and the tactics has been more favourable to get in goalscoring positions. It's easier for forwards to shine under Klopp rather than LVG.

Agree that the Rashford Origi comparisons are more appropriate, and even then I think if opt for Rashford.

Who, what on earth says that Origi is definitivt faster than Martial? Origi has been outpaced numerous times, but Martial makes players like Coleman look positively slow. His sprints just looks like he jogs though. I can't see Origi being much stronger either as Martial rarely loses physical battles.
