The Spurs thread

And how many times have Spurs qualified for the UCL over the past 30 years?

You can't have it both ways, if United's level is now Europa League because of the last 3 years then Spurs' arent suddenly a level above because of 1 year

It's about the here-and-now and looking forward. This is the 3rd time that Spurs have finished in the top 4 in the last 6 seasons. We deserve to be playing in the CL next season: it's the level we've now reached. You might try acknowledging that instead of pretending it isn't so.

Shame on Danny Rose. Shame. Pushed Hiddink. Championed Cantona kungfu for me. Hiddink is peaceful professional manager and did no provoke.

I'm impressed. I never thought I'd see them get to this level, but I now have to admit it... that was literally the dirtiest performance I've ever seen in the Premier League. Absolute thugs.

United have won as many titles in the last 6 years as Spurs have won in their entire history. ...

Look backwards all you want. The reality of here-and-now is that Spurs have a better squad than United, a better manager than United and far more to look forward to next season than United.

The challenge for them is to not do a Liverpool from 13/14 and be able to juggle CL football with the PL (won't be resting players for the CL like with the EL).
That'd only happen if they lost Kane then replaced him with Rudy Gestede and Nicklas Bendtner, which is basically what we did with Lambert and Balotelli following Suarez's departure. I don't think they'll lose Kane though and that'll be the difference.

Here and now, you're nothing but a bunch of violent thugs. Never mind missing out on the league, that was done and dusted a week or two back. You should be ashamed of your team's performance tonight for the leg-breaking tackles, eye-gouging etc.

Incredible how critical of Spurs you can be when we're likely to finish ahead of 6 teams that have spent mega-mega-bucks compared to us.

How do you feel about your season?

When the MHRC reached the TOP14 final I was happy and even though we lost it's still a good memory. Tottenham had a great season and it's not necessary to think about the "what if", I bet that you are going to remember fondly of that season.

Poor Glaston, in the basement of his mum's house, with 20 google chrome tabs on various team websites, getting laughed at by the whole country whilst he tries in vain to tell everyone about Spurs' low net spend.

You guys should be ashamed. The guy needs help, not mockery.

OK in the last 6 years then Spurs have finished top 4 3 times
In that same time we've finished top 4 4 times (it's also worth mentioning that this is the only season we're not making it but Spurs are)

Not much difference is there? Last season we finished top 4 with Spurs nowhere in sight, this season at best you could say you've done the same

I get you're upset with how tonight has gone but defend yourself better than trying to bait United supporters based realistically on this season and nothing else

He dishes it out, its only fair he gets it back too. If he actually acted like a rational human being most of the year he'd get sympathy not abuse.
It's nowhere near the same level - usually people interrupt legitimate discussion to call Spurs a nothing club, and then Glaston rolls out some variation of 'oh, like United this season?' which draws pretty heavy levels of disproportionate abuse from multiple sources.

Then there's the almost traditional 'oh I guess Glaston's in hiding' call-to-arms post after every disappointing Spurs result.

I never got the whole 'oh he's just as bad' thing from like this single guy surrounded on all sides, who usually says bad things about United in response to people goading him and saying far worse about Spurs.

Wait, is it the past three years or is it the here-and-now? :wenger:

 We've played what is probably the most entertaining and exciting attacking football in the entire Prem and sit in 2nd place with 2 games to go.

"Nothing but a bunch of violent thugs" don't tend to do that ...

That is true, but they'll have to add to the team as well. In some seasons, 72/73 points (which they'll end up on), won't be enough for even top 4, let alone another title push.

What is your opinion regarding Eric Dier's attempt to actively break another opponent's leg?

I suppose it depends on everyone else as well and how many sides can get to around the 80 point mark. It'll be tough for everyone to get top four next season.

You seem proud of your ability hurl personal abuse. But I'm not surprised that you prefer this to discussing football, given the disaster of United's decline. Enjoy the Mourinho circus next season and your trips to god knows where in the Europa League - it's your level these days.

I can just imagine the rage tears running down your face as you wrote this.

This season United and Liverpool have been shit, Chelsea had a massive collapse, City have their worst season in years and Arsenal bottle it again. The stage was set for Spurs to finally win the league only to lose it to fecking Leicester. Haha

Firstly congratulations to Leicester, well deserved!

As for Spurs we've confirmed CL group stages tonight which was above what we expected or probably even hoped for in August.

And I really don't think we are going away next season, this team has so much going for it and we are very proud of our them.

Quite so.

I began this evening by simply posting a congratulation to Leicester City for deservedly winning the title - and calling it the greatest achievement in the history of football. Cue dozens of stupid posts about how crap Spurs supposedly are.

The three-and-now. Gotcha.

What does the future hold for Spurs in Year 4 of the Potch Era?

You have to ask PSG fans about that probably.

There's a trend showing that Poch doesn't like working at clubs for more than 2 years.

Glaston current update.

Writing several strongly worded emails to gambling companies asking why United are instaled as bigger favourites for the title and top 4 next season than Tottenham.

But but the trends. And the net spend.

Yep it's going to be a battle next year, wouldn't surprise me if 77/78 points will be enough for the league and 70 enough for top 4.

So many teams are going to be in it, I think only City will be guaranteed a top 4 place but not neccessarily the league and so many teams will be fighting.

I wonder if anybody will ever be 5000/1 again.

This season? United barely scraped 4th last season - were then dumped out of the CL pronto - and finished 7th the season before. Meanwhile Liverpool have finished below Spurs in 5 out of the last 6 seasons and Chelski have dropped out of the top 4 for 2nd time in the last 5 years.

A sea-change has occurred, but like King Canute you probably won't see it until your socks get wet.

Amid all the Glaston mockery, I think it's fair to say that Spurs have a young, exciting team and they've been excellent this season. Assuming Pochettino stays for the next few years they'll be thereabouts but part of me thinks that this was their one big chance. What are the chances of all of the traditional big clubs making such a feeble attempt at the title next year or the year after that? What chance Guardiola will fail to massively improve that City side? Or that Chelsea will be so monumentally gash for the first few months of the season? Even the Scousers are bound to improve when Klopp gets a few of 'his' players in.

I just can't see so many variables falling in favour of the likes of Spurs and Leicester next season. They'll have to go way beyond what they've done this time around and they'll have to show that this wasn't just some bizarre anomaly. I can't honestly see it happening.

A song for Spurs. To the tune of Dionne Warwick.

If you saw the title race this week
And start to cry because you got beat
Alli, Walker, Dier,
walk on by

Moussa Dembele,
Son you don't see the tears
When you gouged his eye
And when you let a 2 goal lead slip
I break down and cry

Alli, Walker, Dier (don't stop)
Walk on by (don't stop)
Walk on by

I just Kane get over losing you
And Mason if I seem broken and blue
Walk on by, walk on by

Foolish pride
That's all Lamela has left me
So let me hide
The tears and the sadness you gave me
When we blew the title

We walk on by (don't stop)
Walk on by (don't stop)
Walk on by (don't stop)

Have a lie down mate, can't be easy watching Spurs miss out on the best chance they'll have for many years to come of actually fecking winning something of note.

What was going on in this game at the end? Saw a bit of it on Sky. Seems to be a few incidents during the game too. Never realized spurs/chelsea were so heated.

Reduced to clutching at bookies odds now

Never mind, the circus is coming ... or is it winter?

Or... They'll do a Spurs and Spurs it right up somehow. That'd be Spurs all over. That and ending the season with no trophy for the 35th time in 40 years

Spurs have played some of the best football in the league this season and have been one of the few in the top six to stick to a team with a number of English players, something which can only be good for the Euros in a month's time. & at least their players stood up to the usual multi-player "surroundings" so typical of Mou era Chelsea, JT etc. Shouldn't have had more than eight players on the pitch by the end though.. I'm not convinced they'll fade too much next season either if Levy can be satisfied with just pocketing the tv money and not selling off players to the highest bidder on the last day of transfer market...

They'll be back next season. We're all loving Leicester but this team with this manager are on the right track. I hope we can derail it by taking Poch though :smirk:

Spurs lost the plot. Should've had multiple red cards and will probably and rightfully be in some serious shit after the FA look at the tape.

 I just said the FA will look at the tape. Yeah right.
