Cards on the Table

Mourinho dont need English assistant, the guy has been here longer than most our squad, beating teams long before fergie retired, he even beat fergie to the title two times. I bet he knows more about our squad then van gaal + giggs + hoek + stuivenberg combined.

He doesn't need a giggs or neville to act as an intermediary with his players, the man is a top notch motivator, any half arsed under qualified personnel will only hinder his job

I don't think there's any real need to be concerned. We're not mathematically out of the top 4 and have a cup final to play. It's hardly surprising nothing has happened. I would imagine we don't want to rock the boat, so we'll get both of those out of the way and move for Mourinho. If there's a broad agreement there it's just a matter of calling that in at a time that suits us. Albeit it's entirely possible we might view LVG winning the cup (if he does) as sufficient to keep him.

Double smack in the face for Giggsy
I think Neville might make a good assistant. Plus, i don't think managing United one day is the be all and end all for Neville that i think it is for Giggs.

LVG retires after winning the FA Cup and Jose comes is around a week later.

I suspect they will go with maureen. I do wonder how they will handle VG, it hasn't really worked for him (I still think the players are getting away with a lot while hes taking all the blame here though) but hes a decent bloke who will likely win us the FA Cup, I would hope he announces his retirement rather than sacking him.

Me personally, I'd rather see Warren Joyce take over. Knows the club, knows what the shirt means, knows how to win, and importantly, knows how to build a team that have the desire to win. And then win again.

What do you think will happen at season's end?

Me, I've little faith in our board's proactivity so I think there'll be no announcement at all & LVG will just carry on (barring a 7th place/Cup Final loss disaster - then the board might feel pressurised to act). Hope I'm wrong...

You?
As time passes, I feel more and more like this, Shteve.

Have had this nagging feeling for a long time that we're staying the course with LvG and it makes me sick, but that's what I think is going to happen. To think this man has driven me to hope Jose fecking Mourinho becomes our manager...

I'm convinced nothing is decided yet and it will all hinge on making or missing 4th place irrespective of the FA Cup result.

Gut instinct is no change.

Shhhite. :( I was hoping it was just me...then I'd welcome all the ridicule when it turned out that I was horribly wrong. :D

I fear your predictions are entirely accurate :(

I don't think he'll be sacked. Top 4 is as good as gone and the board have already passed up on numerous opportunities to get rid of him based on league performance. I think it all depends on the cup final result, and somewhat perversely, a win will see him retire and Jose brought in, but he'll be allowed to see out his contract if we lose.

Sadly, I could list at least ten things - entirely off the cuff - that suggest the board will pass on appointing José and, seeing as fans' discontent isn't high on their list of priorities, only a few reasons why they might appoint him. All LVG will have to do is say 'injury crisis' to his friend Ed and that'll be enough to see him get another season, I feel, whether it's Mourinho or A.N. Other is Louis' rival for the job.

LVG is building up for an explosion.
He's convinced he's our saviour.
If we sack him he'll run amok with a chainsaw.
It'll be messy.

Already got too much on my plate without having to manage this tin-pot club...

Early retirement and a thanks from United, especially if he wins the cup. Mourinho announcement almost immediately after.

Not sure if I believe this or it's wishful thinking - a bit of both probably.

I'm guessing at least 15 thread title changes before the end of the season.

Maybe you can, but if so those ten things wouldnt have an equal weighting to the few reasons they might replace him IMO. I mean, not all motives / justifications are created equal.

Woodward is in charge of our brand, and I use that term advisedly because I believe it is how he sees it. The stock of our brand is falling right now. He inherited a team of champions and has presided over three years of turmoil and ineptitude. Yes he is still making rain with sponsors, but there is a lag between success (or lack of) and commercial value, after three years that will be starting to feed through now, it will start hurting the bottom line. If we miss out on the CL again next season, even more so with the kit deal.

I dont know what these ten reasons you can think of for keeping Van Gaal might be, but as I said, I cant imagine any of them would have a weighting as significant as this bottom line impact. I have long argued that we may not need to win the PL for the Glazers to be happy, I think the Arsenal trick of being ever-present in the CL and seen as a "top 4 club" in the PL would suit them just fine, but we are not even hitting that easier target. The fact that we have had to fight so hard for this each of the three seasons he has been at the helm, and only scraped through once (so far), should be enough to force him to act IMO, even if we scrape through again this season. Woodward really has no room to maneuver, he needs a winner who can turn things around - preferably win the PL, but at least compete for it and not see us scrapping for 4th every season.

Van Gaal will take early retirement a few days after the FA Cup final irrespective of the result. We'll release a very positive statement thanking him for his work behind the scenes.

Mourinho will be appointed at the end of the month, or perhaps the first week of June.

Giggs will leave the club not long after.
I think this is a good shout.

Not a dead cert, but a strong possibility (assuming we dont get 4th).

I feel that lack of faith as well.

Stuck in that catch 22 of turning up to games to support the team, but no confidence in those running the club.

Yes, I can see something along the lines of what @Kag said. I have long thought he would leave "by mutual consent" or he would be allowed to resign.

Though at the end of the day if he wouldnt jump willingly I am sure Woodward would push him.

I think the Mourinho deal is already done and LVG is complicit in it and happy to retire off into the sunset. It won't be a sacking.

My opinion too. I think his arrogant attitude towards and misleading of the media is just a combination of his personality, agreement to work with the club on the situation, and bitterness at the way the media have treated him.

Maybe this should have been a poll?
Anyway I think Jose will be the manager and LVG will move on after the season ends.

Yeah pretty much this.

The silence around the club and the lack of public support for LVG has convinced me we'll have Jose in place as soon as our league position and cup final outcome are confirmed.

Read somewhere that Ed feels no need to refute baseless rumours. Me, I'm hoping LVG gets gone asap.

I think that LVG will say he's going to retire after the FA cup final.

Sounds about right.

I'd prefer a situation where we sneak fourth, win the cup and LVG stays but I find it unlikely at the moment.

My suspicion is that Louis was only convinced to carry on as our manager until the end of this season by Woodward, as we needed time to sort things out off the pitch - which is why he's been so touchy about the questions, as he's been asked to pretend both he and the board think he's the man for the job when in reality neither do.
