Yeah I have little time for those conspiracy theories as well. But no doubt that there is some shady stuff going on.

If only half of what I read in this book called "confessions of an economic hitman" is true then the CIA really are the worlds most evil organisation. It is written by a guy previously in the CIA.

But the same can probably be said about most security agencies, "By way of deception" doesn't exactly cover the Mossad in glory either.

I am a supporter of the 2nd amendment. That doesn't mean I think there shouldn't be sensible restrictions placed on purchasing firearms etc.

In much the same way, that doesn't mean that I like Trump, the direction of this country, our economy, etc. etc. etc.

I'm a borderline democratic socialist who voted for Bernie Sanders because I wish the United States had a European style social safety net/healthcare/education system that also happens to believe in the right to keep and bear arms.

People seem to jump to conclusions once an American mentions that they own guns.

I have no idea, I watched it as it happened and was as mystified as you. He just seemed extremely pissed off all night. I get that he wanted to make it clear that it was an attack on the LGBT community but nobody said it wasn't. Also, at the same time it's obvious since ISIS took credit for the attack that parallels are going to be made to other recent attacks just as parallels will be made to other mass shootings in America. Bizarre reaction if you ask me.

No idea who he is, but he comes across as a petulant child there.

Obviously had an agenda he wanted to pursue and threw a hissy when he wasn't allowed free reign to do so.

It goes well beyond and attack on gay people. Its an attack on western culture - which includes acceptance of LGBT people.

Ridiculous carry on by him which contributes nothing positive.
 
Not all Americans seem too terrible put out by this massacre. The ever christian Texas Lt. Governor, Dan Patrick, had this to tweet like 30 minutes after it happened. And people wonder how a creep like Donald Trump can get so much support. Nothing surprises me about Republicans anymore.

What a cry baby.

Owen Jones has been an apologist of Islamic hate doctrine for quite some time. Even at the beginning of this discussion he had to throw in the 'he has twisted the Islamic religion to suit his agenda' argument, but my guess is that he no longer believes it and doesn't know how to express this. His liberal sensibilities are telling him to stick to the PC narrative regarding Islam being a peaceful and tolerant religion, but his rational side is telling him otherwise. Throw in his personal investment as a gay person and you have an epic hissy fit.

I don't mind Jones and he can talk sense. However he definitely came across as a petulant child, maybe he took the attack very personally.

Yeah, I've been observing this thread all day and kinda got that feeling as I was reading more of your posts. I was thinking to myself "poor guy just made the mains, this ain't gonna end well for him" when I saw your earlier posts while battling half the Caf. :) As I'm sure you've noticed by now ("Will the world be a better place without the US involvement in everything" thread being another recent example), many here have strong opinions on us Americans being an uneducated, xenophobic, barbaric bunch.

However, I do disagree on your notion that most Americans agree with gun rights. I'd say that prolly boils down to factors such as where you were raised, currently live, do you hunt, etc. I think those who live in urban areas would have a different opinion than those who live in the South for example. I live in Southern CA, and I don't know anyone who owns a gun or would even want to. Fwiw, I was thinking the same thing as you regarding the violence at the Euros. I was thinking to myself "those Europeanss are fecking crazy" while seeing the hooliganism in France, and they must be thinking the same about us when hearing about all these mass shootings.

The mass brawls weren't the greatest advert for European unity. It's all too common with the England fans sadly, but everyone seems to be getting in on it this tourny. God knows how the likes of England v Wales and Germany v Poland will pan out...

I think that most folks from elsewhere are about the same as most folks from here when it comes to looking at outsiders. It didn't surprise me that I was attacked, I knew that I would be, but I felt that it would be the right thing to do to try and (respectfully as possible) get a gun owner's viewpoint put on the Caf regarding this incident. That and Piers Morgan just rubs me the wrong way, leading to my 1st post on the issue. Rural vs. Urban definitely has something to do with how people here view the issue I think. I was raised in the rural American southeast. I was taught by my dad to shoot when I was 9.. and that's par for the course where I'm from. My belief that gun sales and purchases should be more strongly regulated are seen as liberal where I'm from. My friends at work jokingly call me "Comrade" for that and my voting record.

I think that most Americans still believe in the 2nd Amendment, as in, wouldn't want it repealed, but while I did defend the right to own guns on this thread, I would say that I am in the 70% of Americans that want more "gun control"... I just think that the idea of "gun control" is a very broad topic, one in which I come down in the area that leans towards making it harder to purchase guns, making more effective registration systems, making more effective background check systems, etc. whereas some believe that "gun control" means banning certain types of firearms. I try not to view things too idealistically, taking more of a "realpolitik" approach to all things political. I don't see a ban in this country as feasible, especially since the repeal of the AWB from the 1990s. Stronger sales regulations, however, seem like something that can (and should) happen.

It's not jusat safety though. it's the greed, the selfishness, the wastefulness, the arrogance, the stupidity...so many things. Trump is right that this country was greater some years ago, but not in all areas of course.

London feels safer and I still like living here. I have that option of going to Mauritius, but it's not all sun, sea and sand. Everyone is constantly trying to rip you off, you don't trust any tradesman you don't know personally and her uncle has electrified bars on his ground floor windows ffs.
What about somewhere like Hawaii? Tropical, but developed.

My mate has a business in Ho Chi Minh City...that's another option. I've got connections in Perth too. The Cornwall thread has me pondering too.

Cornwall house prices are like London's and they are suffering from so many houses being second homes there, ie local shops shutting.
I might have to go to Perth next year. I became an uncle again last week and we need to go out there to see the kid. They want to call it either Raiden, Neo or, er, Roy, despite my missus' family being a double barrel, *******-Roy.
