United being laughed at is a good thing, opposition fans laughed about Martial.

In some ways they're beginning to fear United becoming a force, Mourinho, Ibra, Mkhitaryan, Martial, De Gea, Roo... ok lets stop there.

It's a good time to be a United fan though.
 
Really sorry to be the bearer of ill news but its just not happening.

Whilst we have an exciting fresh project and a great new manager we are missing a few key aspects. No champions league. This is massive for players of Pogbas ability I cant see him slumming it out in the EL.

Madrid are still seen as the pinnacle of big money moves and theyve just won the Champions League. He will see their project as almost complete and hes ready to be the extra push to send Barca over the edge.

He also probbaly likes the idea of coming here and being the prodigal son but tk be honest thats at a stretch. People are saying Madrid cant afford him? Why not? Sell James and Verane/ Isco and theres the money there alomg with freeing up cash for his wages.

To be honest they can probably buy him even without sales and he would love to go.

My honest two cents- this is all paper BS and its selling clicks and papers. I dont think we are even in for him as we probably know hez off to Madrid and he would have stated that to his agent from the start.

Id love him here I really would and for 100m no problem. But we need to think realistically on the matter and it makes little sense for him to come here.

I say we focus on Draxler or Griezzman the latter being a real dream always wanted him at the club. As for an attacking creative midfielder with precense- its hard but looking at the options Matic is obviously a great option. But if 100m is being thrown around go for Matuidi or Veratti (the latter another dream) but would be amazing.

People like you lack imagination. No offense but we're in the EL at this moment for one year - it's not for eternity....But united will try to have a few deals lined up in case. We also finished on the same points as City - and finished fifth because of stupidity. That won't be the case this season.
 
The people who come in here certain it won't happen are just as silly as the people who are certain it will. You don't know.

It's much easier to be negative and go with what seems more obvious.
 
Generally I don't like us being the winner by default of being able to offer more money than the rest as we might not be the players preferred destination and it can go tits up like it did with ADM who clearly didn't want to be here (or at least not in LVG's Gulag).

In Pogba's case though, even if we are not his first choice I can still see him having a point to prove here and being one of the most expensive players in football, being a key signing for Mourinho and earning a shedload of money would hopefully be enough to make him forget Madrid. He's lived in Manchester long enough to know what to expect weather wise and would have plenty of connections still at the club to make it an easy settling in process .

So once we have a player good enough to carry out the manager's formation and plans then I really don't care about the money side of things. Better to overspend on the missing piece of the jigsaw than to go cheap on a bad fit.

1) CL doesn't fully matter for one season, the club has shown that for a few years, plus you're working with a manager who will get CL let's be honest, minus last years "blip" which was a blip, he has the highest win % in the history of the PL.

2) Real Madrids project being "complete" come on? Ronaldo is 31, next year 32 he's struggling in the Euros this year and he's not going to have another 3 years of top football, he has knee issues as we all know which doesn't fully stop him but I see him leaving Real in the next 2 years maybe.

Real need to replace some key players in the coming years, I think Barcelona are a much bigger prospect than RM and guess what, they're building a new stadium and have just spend big to tie Neymar down.

3) This deal could be over the line before James, Varane and Isco are even sold, and then what about Kroos, Modric? Pogba would operate in Modric role most likely. Pogba would be a pointless buy for Real Madrid I think they need to start thinking about life without Ronaldo in the coming year or two.

I'm not saying it will happen, but I'm saying Real Madrid aren't leading this chase right now.
 
People shouldn't talk about us like the ugly duckling in this case. Pogba has more connections with Manchester than he does Barcelona or Madrid. We're at a very exciting period with Jose coming in, and we've already seen the quality of talent he's been able to attract. We've got the money to pay him and Juve whatever they want. We really aren't that awful a destination.

Yeah we haven't got CL and the weather isn't great, but at least he's used to the latter.
 
About the money aspect on this potential transfer...If you can afford a Ferrari, why do you want to buy an Ford ST?

I keep reading guys saying we should buy Kante and others. If we don't need that type of player, why would we go for them?

Nobody will be laughing at us if we get Pogba. They will be scared to death. With the arrival of Mourinho, Zlatan, Mkhitaryan and maybe Pogba we would be finally feared again. Wasn’t this pumped for a new season in years, even if we don't get Pogba.

:lol: Wow. How can someone get so many things wrong in one post? Griezmann has just signed a new contract and will not be moving to us. Simple as that. Matuidi and Veratti are PSG players so again that's not happening. Which leaves us with Draxler and Matic who don't even play in the same position...

Also it's pretty clear that we are in for him as there's too many sources supporting that and not your usual trash like The Sun or The Daily Star. I do find it unlikely that we will get him though.

I'd like to hope most the forum think in this manner. We'd be able to get another player in that mix, too.

Kante, Payet, Mahrez would cost 100m (IIRC these two Leicester players have decent release clauses?). I'd prefer that trio over Pogba. We'd be well and truly sorted.
 
Would I want Pogba at Utd, of course.
Would I want us to spend 100m on him, I dont really care, if the club thinks it is financially viable.
Would I prefer to spend 100m on acquring 2/3 players of high ceiling, then yes

let's not go the liverpool route and stuff our squad with players from teams who finished above us in a one off season.

How about we start buying the best players off teams that challenge for Europe? I think that's a better route to go--the Barca and Real route over the Liverpool route, thank you very much.

I genuinely believe that Kante/Payet/Mahrez would be better performers in their roles for longer than one season.

Kante/Mahrez particularly are players we need. The former being a ball winner with the potential to reach Makalele levels and the latter being a maverick (Martial is the only one in his kind of suitable consistency).

Pogba is a brilliant footballer but £100m is a shit load of money and he's not worth that much. Only Bale/Neymar/Messi/Suarez are worth that much money really. There will be others like Pogba on the horizon, there is little doubt about that. But when Mahrez and Kante's agents have confirmed its likely they can leave Leicester - it baffles me as to how we aren't in for them.

Pogba is proven at a European level, in big teams and against big teams.

What's to say Mahrez doesn't go the Lallana route and look out of his depth at a big club?

If Pogba is available, and we can get him, I see no reason why we shouldn't. I'm tired of watching world class players at other clubs. We have the best manager in the world and he's going to want to manage the best players in the world. I'm completely fine with that.

If Jose thought Kante was the answer, he'd be in for him. Unlike you, he actually worked with the likes of Makelele and Matic. He knows what a great DM is. Maybe he thinks Kante isn't the answer.

WRT to the bold point - that's quite a spoilt thing to say considering we just signed Schweinstiger, Ibrahimovic, kept DDG and just signed Mikhitaryan (not world class but still a big player). Wanting Pogba because we don't have enough big names is a bit questionable. Yes, Pogba improves us massively, but I think we'd look a more balanced, complete team if we signed the other 3 in his place. £100m is simply too much, even City wouldn't/aren't paying that for him. Same for Real by the looks of it. After the Mueller/Neymar

The jury is still out on Matic. He's had one very good season and one terrible one.

I'm not comparing Marhez and Pogba alone. Signing Mahrez, Payet, Kante for the same price as Pogba would be a lesser risk and cover more bases. Two out of those three are one of the best performers in the Euro campaign, so its fair to assume they can cut it at the top level. Mahrez being Algerian hasn't really had the opportunity to show it this summer but he was player of the season in the Premier League. Are you saying he can't cut it at the top level? Lallana may have been better for Southampton but he was never performing as highly as Mahrez just has. It would take an incredible fall for Mahrez to reach such low standards, and an even bigger one for Payet/Kante to follow suit all in the same season.
 
Does it worry anyone that Pogba played the defensive mid role of a 4-3-3 and did really well? Wouldn't that be what Madrid want?

It's not spoilt to want world class players. We are a club that generate enough revenue to be able to afford them. Ibra, Schwiny are past their prime. Miki is not world class. he's very good. DDG is world class, but I don't tune in to watch goalkeepers. A world class goalkeeper putting on a show means something has gone very wrong.

I doubt we would be able to get all 3 within 100m. Mahrez alone would cost 50m+, Kante unless news about his buyout clause are true would also be in the same region & Payet although older than the other two would be just as valuable to West Ham.

Problem is with the new TV revenue deal coming in, it would be more difficult to buy players from teams like Leicester, Spurs, West Ham, etc. compared to other teams in Europe i.e. BvB , Juve, etc.

But yes, if possbile within the same price range, I would prefer Payet+Kante+Mahrez over just Pogba.

Also, don't know why everyone is fixated on this figure of £100m. That is just pure paper talk to get guys like us talking. I truly feel the figure will be more near the £70m

One of Mahrez/Payet (or maybe both will have to sit on the bench though). We have Martial, Ibra and Targaryan there, with Rooney probably getting the benefit of the doubt for half a season. So, 2 perfectly good players (maybe it will be Martial and Targaryan) will be bench warmers, and Rashford will have even less chances.

And of course, the Liverpool strategy of getting players from midtable clubs who one season did well (or finished above them) seems rarely to work.

Fergie is the main reason why we lost a player who is already a top 3 midfielder in the world and is a potential Ballon D'Or winner, so I am not that interested to know what Fergie would have done in this scenario.[/QUOTE]

Agree, and even if it was £100m it would be more like £70+ 10M for winning the EPL, + 10m CL, +10m winning the Ballon d'Or. That would be very palatable.
