Pro BrExit voters - how do you feel now?

Germans rebuilt their country twice in forty years from scratch. You can say alot of things about these people but they are resilient

Yes and I think that they are smart enough to massively hurt a key industry out of spite.

I voted for Brexit, I also bought a car from VW a year ago. I suspect that post Brexit VW would quite like me to buy another in a few years.

It wont be out of spite of course. If Frankfurt can become the financial capital city of Europe instead of London then such loss of market would be worth every penny.

Oh yes, the laid off car builders would be thrilled to know that even though they lost their jobs, some millionaire Americans moved to Frankfurt to buy stocks.

I think you're underestimating how vital a flourishing financial sector is for the UK Economy.

They wont be thrilled but as said if they can nick London's financial sector it would be worth the inconvenience. VW had survived the second world war. I am sure they can survive such massive hit.

I am quite aware of how important the city is to the UK economy (not that it does much good for many of the left behind voters who backed Brexit who never felt the economic recovery) but my point was that any attempt to punish the UK by bringing in tariffs etc will also have a serious impact on people in EU countries like the ROI and Germany as well as the UK.

Oh the millionaire execs? as Always they will be just fine. I was talking about the real people who would lose jobs.

A very small inconvenience given what they can gain.

Not just execs. The financial sector create jobs too and the Germans know how to adapt.

This attitude is very typical of the whole EU debate. If big bank jobs move from London that would be bad for the UK and great for some highly paid EU workers and the economy overall. But the low level staff who lose jobs due to exports and sales dropping? They wont feel great about it. Its the little guy in the UK and EU that would suffer from a trade war, not the millionaires in the city, they will just relocate.

Idk really, the city has a lot of roles but maybe not many for 50 year old welders

Who buys brand new German cars out of interest? Is it the soon to be unemployed Nissan workers in the North East or is it largely the City types who will follow the jobs abroad?

Seems like the only real inconvenience for the German car markers is they'll no longer have to make cars that can drive on the left because they'll be too busy supplying their increased domestic market.

Why are you saying "millionaires in the city"? I work for a bank in London and am far, far from a millionaire. There are millions just like me, recently graduated drowning in debt trying to make use of the degrees we have.

They are soon to be unemployed? Cuz Nissan said that was bullshit. Or are you just scaremongering?

If you think 1/5 of German car exports possibly dropping off isnt a big deal for the German car companies then fair fecks to you, thats a ballsy claim.

Well VW will start selling cars to the Frankfurters rather then to the Brits. After all, if the British financial sector go tits up, there wont be many Brits who will be able to afford VWs in the first place. Dont worry though, Boris made sure that cyclists are well served in the City. To think that some actually believe that the leave camp had no plans.

Such bullshit that Nissan are taking Vote Leave to court for daring to suggest that they have said they will stay.

You mean the court claim over using the Nissan Logo? Or is there another that I am not aware of? Would appreciate links! That is a huge deal if true!

On the contrary, I think it's clear that you don't understand how much worse it can, and will, get.

Man with a crystal ball there as well as an ability to make the opposition's point for them. Bravo.

Not being funny but for a "non-racist/non-xenophobe".... hmmm.

How strange that you feel "closer" to all the white countries that were "seeded" by your ancestors.... coincidence? Do you feel closer to India and Belize too? Strange you missed them off your list.

Another cheap and low play of the racist card here but at least it's consistent. Just out of interest how white do you think Austria is? I'd be interested to know as he's stated he feels far closer culturally to the USA for example.

Get used to it anyone who has voted leave. Deny it or not you've got racist tendencies it seems.

Ok. If you think tariffs between the UK and EU would not be an issue for EU citizens and especially small businesses then awesome, I wish you the best of luck and I genuinely hope that such a bold claim comes true.

I know the feeling entirely, I made the "wise" choice of doing a history degree, wish I hadn't bothered. I hope that your job does not come under threat as a result of this vote, my own probably will.

What a horrible and lazy accusation. And ironically, laden with prejudice.

Well done.

Jog on. It's been a consistent accusation throughout all Brexit threads and one levelled at me. I'm an apologist for racism apparently. It's getting fecking tiresome so sort your own house out eh?

It would be a big issue from a small country to a big country and not viceversa. The big fish had always ate the smaller one. Its the law of nature

We buy more from the EU than the EU buys from us - I suspect that a trade war would hurt both sides. But we shall have to agree to disagree

I'm pretty sure our financial sector is worth a hell of a lot more than 10%(?) Of German car sales.

Germany would survive a hit on car sales. We would struggle loosing the bulk of our financial sector.

Alternatively, man who pays attention and has been right with every prediction to date on this bullshit.

The civil service has already started looking for immigrants due to a dire shortage of experienced trade negotiators in this country I note.

10% is probably very, very generous. Maybe if you only count German production plants. And still, you won't stop buying German cars. Not at all.

Apologies Barca84 - I misunderstood your (identical) stance on this.

Ah so we're not paying attention now. Is this a new slant on the educated vs uneducated voter debate? Clearly it is from a guy who thinks that those who voted leave are "simple".

Re trade negotiators. Excellent news and I'm glad you were paying attention because, as you know, I certainly wasn't. Reversing decades of the transference of power to Brussels has to start somewhere and, according to some, this could be an area where we can work closely with our commonwealth allies. Yes - new alliances being forged as we speak. How exciting :)

TBF racism is a problem in the Spanish league. ;):p

You do realise that those 1/5, if true (?), don't just disappear if the UK and the EU don't agree on some sort of trade agreement. The cars will get more expensive but people will still buy them especially in the luxus segment.

Far as I know it would be done through the WTO, which would mean no tariffs anyway. It's the service sector that would be screwed.

Nope. I think those who voted leave are typically wrong about 90% of what they believe and I make no apologies for that opinion. There are a million different reasons for those beliefs from person to person, generalising is therefore a waste of time. The one constant between all of them, Murdoch etc excluded, is that they were lied to on a grand and shameful scale, using your, and my, taxes, and with the complicity of an incredibly out of touch and corrupt political class. They have thereby unknowingly handed even more power to those people to ruin their lives. I will take no pleasure in being proven right when most people's lives get noticeably worse over the next months and years, and when more people die because of this folly. But I would bet my house on it. If you hadn't unwittingly already done so!
