Someone whom we paid a fee for that nobody else would pay while ultimately being their second or third choice. For me signing Pogba would have a cloud over it knowing he's possibly going to kick up a fuss and piss off at some stage. In fact, you can almost guarantee at his age if he continues with the trajectory that people expect that he'll want to move to either Madrid or Barca. It feels like a move as much manufactured by the agent as the player.

Or he goes to/renews with Real Madrid (S. Ramos).

Agree totally. The press love WUM'ing us with these big name players every window. I reckon he's Real Madrid bound anyway.
Oh yes, I agree that PSG was always his target. And he was very shitty about it. But if he/we had a great season, I don't think he'd have left so soon. In our first half of that season, he looked comfortable and interested. It was noticeably different after that.
I cant see him coming back to United at all. Would love to see him back here but think he has already made his mind up that ultimately he wants Madrid. Madrid don't seem to have the money to buy him though as its all be very quiet, unless that's their tactic. Wait and let us do all the running and get Juve to accept a fee and then they jump in and match the offer (or a slightly lower offer) and Pogba signs for them.
RM would need to sell before they can buy, like Toni, JR or Morata.
Tim's shooting ability is pretty bad. He's not really an attacking talent. His best attacking weapon is his ability to drive forward.

Real Madrid can buy him at any time and worry about selling players on after that.
I think the hesitation amongst us is due to the idea he prefers Real Madrid. He could come here for £100m and after one season kick up a fuss and leave on the cheap to Madrid. I do agree that the money is irrelevant if he arrives for £100m and stays here for the next 8 years and helps delivers success, it would represent good value for money. I think its just fear that it turns into a ADM situation, but ADM never really wanted to come here but if Pogba does come it is different from ADM. Madrid wanted rid of ADM for allegedly being too greedy wanting a new contract and as such was forced out of the club, Juve don't want to sell Pogba and it could require Pogba himself asking to be let go.

Surprised and excited by this news! Juventus will be content with about 120 million euro's I think, we'd have some serious quality in our first XI.

ADM had a few years left on his contract and we still had to cut our ties with him after 1 season so its feasible it could happen the same way with Pogba if he decided he didn't want to stay. Afterall his agent is known for throwing the odd chair about to get his way, and has forced through a couple of transfers for Mhki alone by kicking up a fuss.
Has anything similar ever happened though, smashing the transfer record for someone who isn't a forward? I'm not arguing against it, I'm honestly just curious. I guess there's examples at CB like the Luiz deal which was silly...Rio was a massive fee at the time as well I believe (though he was actually worth it).
I'm not including AdM in that because the numbers being bandied about are so much larger and that was only just recently...
I suppose the shear size of the transfer fee will give us some security when other clubs come sniffing.

Breaking the world record by some distance for a former academy player who left us because he saw the grass was greener somewhere else, and, most important, that's nowhere good enough for the prices quoted (not my cash but still). In hindsight it is clear he made the right decision to leave us but I still not convinced this will be a right move by the club if it goes through.

Ronaldo, Bale and Neymar were young players who were bought as long term investments.
Pogba isn't going to stick around for more than about 3 years. You can't look at him as an investment. His playing timeframe is going to be like we're buying a 29 year old, albeit one who still lacks experience and discipline. We're also buying at the top of the market. I can only see prices going down from here, a bit like they did after the Zidane transfer fee a few years ago.
Vulgar desperation or showing an ambition they should have shown prior? United are no more desperate then any club and unlike most, we're not trying to stockpile players either.

But there are a lot of factors besides the quality of the player that determines their value. Therefore, the all-important factor is whether or not the player is good enough to meet the club's aspirations, and secondly, whether they can afford it (plus any further signings if necessary).
To be fair, I love him but $120m is too too much money.

There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that transfer fees are going to fall in the next few seasons, in fact the evidence we have suggests the contrary.

Look at Madrid. Didn't really sign anybody last year, struggling to sign a player of note this season and will face a ban next season. They could go into post ban summer looking at 4 years without signing a star.
The landscape could be wildly different to how it is now in a few seasons. The appeal of Spain will start to dip imo.

That's because unlike Mourinho, the United way believes in youths
Yet the world ransfer record was broken by the likes of Zidane, Luis Figo, Denilson and Kaka as well as your Ronaldo's, Bale, Vieri, Crespo and Shearer. So obviously teams judge midfielders who can influence a game, like Pogba can, as very important. So it's not only your out and out goal scorers that are deemed game changers.
