Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

Not really. Leicester proved anything but last year. If it was all about money, we'd be in the Champions League and winning it every year the amount we have spent in recent years.
Leicester is the exception. I wasnt saying money brings you success every time cause it doesnt. I just meant big money is thrown around these days in football.

yes. But one player can be a huge difference to a team. tbh only Mourinho will know how important Pogba will be to us. He is willing to spend that money for him.

But on just the money issue. The club manages these risks. Not bothered.

I was anxious only about one thing. That we get Mourinho. After that, I don't care who he gets.
He knows what he is doing.
Absolutely the same here...I do not bother one bit...I will always remember how I looked upon the odds for our new manager in 2013 and when I saw that of Moyes plummeting like the British Pound after the Brexit I almost cried. When the news about Mou leaked the day we won the FA cup I think I was more happy about that. In my opinion we got the best manager there is and he will lead us to glory again!!!

They're mediocre at best, so why should we accept that if we're claiming to be the biggest club in the world?
Would Carrick or Fletcher get in the Barca, Real or Bayern midfield? Not a chance, so why should we be happy with the likes of them?

Well they are both in their early/mid 30's now and Fletcher has had a serious illness so no obviously not.

But in their prime maybe, Carrick definitely could have played for any team and not looked out of place. He was an excellent player for us for many years when we were one of the best sides in Europe.

Fair enough, I just feel that a club our size should and could always do more. I dunno maybe I'm living in the past but this is the sort of transfer that we used to looked down at the Madrid circus for, but here we are. A part of my grievence with this transfer is the fact that I know that many loyal life long fans got priced out of seeing their team play, all for a few million more in match day revenue each season but now we'll go and waste money on transfers like it's going out of fashion.

I've already taken this thread off course a bit but I can see your point of view on this too.
Match day revenue is becoming less and less important for clubs, it's broadcast revenue that has exploded at obscene levels, and the money we're forking out here when looked at in relation to our turnover isn't actually as high as you'd probably expect.

Money in football is ridiculous, worrying about it is a waste of time, the CEO knows what he's doing and there's always more and more coming in.

indeed.

"Klopp has vowed to walk away from football if the sport becomes more about spending money on the world’s best players and less about building a great team spirit."

He is aware that he joined a BPL team right? This league hasn't been about football for a long time.
Sounds like Wenger, preparing the fans for them to do nothing of note in the transfer market and not compete for the title. "But ve vill have ze team spirit!"

Money has always been thrown around. Its just the numbers are different these days so it seems more reckless and mind-boggling. If anything more clubs seem to be able to spend big now, but instead of promoting competition or a fairer playing field.. we are seeing more money than sense. Juve with this fee, should absolutely be using it to knock on the door of guys like Barca, Bayern, Madrid or Atletico at least. Instead they go and splash it on Higuain.. a complete non entity when it comes to winning continental level titles

bringing in high profile players in itself gurantees huge revenues.

That has been happening for years with Madrid, now we're getting into the action and he wants to walk away, knowing he can't compete with Liverpool

I think that is what it comes down to. He is bitter because Liverpool just cannot attract that calibre of player.

I bet he wouldn't be saying this stuff if he was in Mourinho's shoes right now.

He is aware that he joined a BPL team right? This league hasn't been about football for a long time.

But it was fine being at the 2nd richest Bundesliga club and hoovering up all the smaller team's players.

Hypocrite. Just because he's in a bigger league now with several richer clubs he's getting a bit tetchy.

I think Klopp was trying to say 'its no biggie if they sign a player for £100m because in football, the team who gets team spirit right etc can still put up a fight and win titles. If football was the sort of sport where money directly translated to success and there was no way of finding a means to success without it, he would walk away from the game'.

Exactly. It's like some people refuse to read the actual article and are just willing to give the reaction the journalist wants from them.

Our last truly top class signing was Robin Van Persie. Since then we've signed players well below his level for silly money. Herrera, Mata, past it Bastian, Schneiderlin, Blind, Rojo ect. All way below what we should be signing as first team players. This summer we've done things right.

Who gives a feck what he thinks. I genuinely forgot he even existed, has-been manager for a has-been club.

lol.

Exactly. Quality over quantity.

You're having a meltdown muppet?

LOL.

You know I've been very confident of this happening for the last 2 weeks.
But now that the story "negotiations are taking place..." has been running for 2 weeks, I am beginning to worry that this may not actually happen.
Now add to that, the fact that there is not one official story that we are attempting to sign Pogba (even Jose did not mention him by name explicitly...just that he has a 4th target, which we assume is Pogba).
Lets also add that Pogba himself has made no mention of "MUFC is my dream club, I love MUFC, etc".
I am getting very worried that this whole story has been made up by Twitter posters, most of whom are known to be liers.

What I am waiting for is BBC to report that we are either making a deal OR agreed to sign Pogba.

I actually think Schneiderlin is a good signing and I am confident he will come good this year. The rest I have to agree. But thats this the argument everyone is using against people who dont want us to sign Pogba but instead sign 3-4 players with that money. Thats exactly the mistake we've been making the past 3 years. Signing squad players and no world class or potential world class players.

Even if you don't believe the Italian press who are well connected for Juventus' news

Craig Norwood has followed Pogba on Twitter. It's a done deal dude.

Have a feeling our midfield will look completel6 transformed with him as long as we use him correctly. Not a #10, not a holding mid or a midfield 2 player, just needs that more advanced mid in a 3 like gerrard or lampard were at their best. And mourinho knows exactly how to use that role effectively so lets hope it works out

I agree.

Tbf Di Maria was top class. It just didn't work out. Not in the same mold as RVP though. Di Maria doesn't have it in him to be the best player in the league or his own team.

I think he would have worked out if we had Mou. Man just think of the team we would have had now if we still had ADM.

Its happening. Don't do this to us.

Sadly this thread will be no more in cirka ~36 hours.
Dont worry United wont announce it by tomorrow and they dont make big announcements on weekends, which means they wont put it up on the website till Monday the earliest, which again means this thread should be active till the weekend.

Think you guys overreacted about Klopp. He didn't criticize the Pogba signing at all.

My takeway from that article was he thinks paying so much for one player is putting all your eggs in one basket. If he got injured....

The problem with that thinking is it does not take into account what a special player can contribute. Of course any player can get injured.

Di Marzio didn't tweet is so take it with a huge grain of salt.

The transfer to me is dead, I know it'll happen, I dont doubt it but I dont get my hopes up because good things haven't happened to United in a while in terms of world breaking transfers.

 You do realise how ridiculous what you just said is? You know it will happen and don't doubt it but at the same time you doubt it?

Yeah some real mediocrity in there. We did sign some top class though like Falcao and Di Maria. They just didn't work out under the van Gaal reign of terror.

Why is there nothing on the BBC website, to suggest that the biggest deal in football history is about to happen?
The website is though stating that Guardiola wants to sign Stones, but nothing on Pogba.

With the Vidal saga, the same thing happened - nothing was on the BBC website and it just fizzled out.
When Jose was rumoured to be coming to MUFC, BBC reported that meeting had taken place.
But with the Pogba affair there are no stories on the BBC website.

And then when you add the "the deal is almost done" mantra, which has been running for about 2 weeks, I am getting worried, if this is actually happening or not.

Di Maria lacked any form of movement to hit. He had a massively out of form Rooney and a crippled falcao. Our crappy 352 formation pretty much saw to the end of him. Such a shame as in last years team he would have done really well I think, getting martial and rashford in the squad transformed out attacking play. If only he was still here now our attack would be unstoppable.

Yeah LVG didn't manage him properly at all. Such a shame it didn't work out.
