In reality, buying a player is somewhere between capital purchase of machinery and hiring new staff for a non-footballing business.

Neither of those require a statement to the shareholders.

Registering a player is a huge investment for a club and the costs and revenues linked to those registrations have a huge impact on the clubs profit.

United are required to announce any big changes to player registrations within the opening hours of the market niw that they are registered on the stock exchange market.

It is in no way at all comparable to buying a new machine ir hiring new personell. It is much more comparable to mergers and aquisitations.

So the reports of him flying to LA last night to complete his medical was bs?

Maybe. Or could be that he flew there in anticipation of getting the okay to do it but, some last minute details have held it up from actually happening today as reports today suggested that he is awaiting final go ahead from Juve.

He's actually been in LA - some spotted him and posted pics.
However, I assume a medical didn't take place and that's maybe the reason why he COULD fly to the UK tonight in order to complete it at Carrington maybe so that the deal could be announced on Monday after Zlatans debut.

But a lot of IF and COULD as I'm still not certain that he'll sign for us.. :nervous:

I think he's done his medical and is flying to England where he will sign the contract but has to wait Juve to give the go ahead first, or is that just me?

:wenger: this is getting old.. It's as clear as daylight

Ok muppets...

When I left home this morning, I felt confident this was being announced today. I can see by the thread title that appears to no longer be the case. Before I start reading back a few pages, what has happened? Should I panic?

Please tell me it's still all done and will be announced Monday. There's no hitch right?

He is waiting for Juve to give him permission to have medical with us.

They're just edging, so that when it's finally announced it feels way better.

Again, I don't understand where people get this impression from. I can understand if certain exchange mandates the listing companies to do that, but that is in no way a norm, especially not in the day and age of electronic trading.

Just to verify that I wasn't dreaming this, I checked the last few mergers and acquisition announcements. There are as many after market close as during market hours. Here's a few:

Won't it be a chartered flight anyway?

I know nothing about chartering planes, but my feeling would be that it wouldn't make sense over that distance, given their price / speed / range?

Not given the levels of luxury available in first class on long-haul flights (which aren't available if you're hopping over from the continent).
