Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

I didn't claim you were, just pointing out that unlike Real, we're spending a world record fee who isn't in the discussion for best player in the world. And yes, they are hard to compare due to being different players, but I wouldn't say Pogba isn't far behind.

I thought the fee was ridiculous too at first, but it's clear the market has changed since Ronaldo. I don't even want to imagine what his fee would have been if he was sold in 2016.

We're in a market where Higuain is worth 75 million and a player who is only potential (Sane) is worth 37m.

We will be lucky to see him as a sub v Southampton. He wont be match fit.

Probably away to Hull.
He better play significant minutes against Southampton, that's my first ever visit to OT. And Mourinho isn't LvG where he stressed "match rhythm." I think he'll start against the Saints.

Just got home and would rather not go through the 15+ pages that I missed. From the last page though it looks like people are being rather negative. Has something bad happened?

Tomorrow is the day Sky thought he would fly to Manchester

The bad news is... theres no good news.

Nothing has happened

Yep, that's why I refuse to jump into this lovely warm 'Pogba is definitely done' camp until I see the United website confirm it.

I allowed myself to believe Thiago was already a United player, after that I vowed never again.

I feel you.... Thiago was the first saga I was exposed to as a redcafe member. The effects were long lasting and I still don't let myself get too attached to the idea of signing any player. Lesson learnt.

They did but surely there would have to be an announcement 1st. Can't see that happening to be honest.

Would love to be wrong.

Yeah you could argue Ronaldo, when we sold him, would be now worth close to £200m. Easily £150m.

I'm confident he will be in the discussion in a year or two. Comparing him to Ronaldo or Messi obviously obscures the reality that he is influential in a different way than they are and will never have the sort of goal tallies as they do. That said, I do lean towards Zidane's view of his potential.

I'd say you're overrating Viera and underrating Pogba and (in his prime) Toure.

Viera in my opinion is much better than both but fair enough you have your opinion. But Viera was awesome neither Pogba (yet) or Toure have ever been awesome.

Think Zidane's over the top there, on account of Pogba being a young French talent and potentially wanting to tap him up at the time. Definitely some heavy bias.

Let's say when Ronaldo left us he was a 10/10 ( I know he wasn't) I'd put PP at around an 8, if you know what I mean.

No but Yaya was playing in an excellent team that had been developed over a number of years. I don't really see the comparison right now and Pogba is only 23 so let's see how he develops, right now I don't see a comparison with anybody but his talent is clearly evident.

To be fair Juventus team that Pogba was playing for was much superior to City.

You're right - there's definitely a French bias thing going on and probably a tap up involved. That said, we do have the best young midfielder in the world at this time, who will be our most influential player for the next 6-7 years.

Agreed :)

In Martial & Pogba you've got two massive French talents who could form quite a link up, potentially one similar to Kane/Alli if Pogba is played further up the pitch.

Pogba and Drake have been posing with a Juve shirt with Pogba 10 on the back. It's on instagram and Facebook.

Mourinho says we will have signed a very good midfielder by the end of the window window but wouldn't name Pogba as he's still a Juventus player at the moment.

It's just marketing, guys. He has already signed, I swear! Di Marzio is always right.
No, Di Marzio said that the deal was agreed to and the clubs had to do the paper work before all the signatures. If the papers are done, we are now just waiting for Pogba's signature and medical.

 Obviously he's going to give him a Juventus jersey, he hasn't been announced as a Manchester United player yet, nor does he have a number assigned.

He was arguably worth that then. £80 million for a 25 year old Ballon Dor winner sounds like free signing considering what they got back off him.

Could he have given him a Juve jersey he's actually played in and signed etc?

Why would you buy last season's shirt and get it printed for Drake..

That's what I was thinking. Drake has been pictured in a Pogba Juve jersey before, so a game-worn one might be a nice present.

Also, it could be a nice collector's item as the last Juve jersey Pogba ever gave out.

So is he due to fly out tomorrow (saturday) and leave the states?

I know some will dispute it, but I'd say Pogba would be our first prime "World Class" player since Ronaldo left.

23 years old and would be a natural starter for any club or country in the World currently.

RvP was maybe closest to it in between, but was 29 and perhaps just at the brow of his peak

Di Maria was widely acknowledged as world class when we bought him.

Has this thread taken the Mourinho press conference comments, analysed them to death, and found some way of not believing him when he said "a big signing is close"?

Certain people yes. Certain being the usual suspect(s).

Good shout. Won't dispute it, I'm just not as sure personally that di Maria would've been a natural starter for anyone. Maybe not even at Real Madrid if they'd still signed James while keeping di Maria. Another I'd put in my "level below" with van Persie.

Pogbear may turn out to be a massive flop yet, but for right now I can't think of 2 CM's in the World who would start ahead of him

Indeed Di Maria was irresistible when he first played for us.
He was then Vangalised and got sold off.

Though since 2008, we have had many players who people would classify as Galactico class. DDG. Rooney (yes, he may be crap now, but he was fantastic a few years back), Ferdinand, Evra, Had any of these players been sold/bought in their prime, they'd have commanded a huge transfer fee.

He was the only player, playing in the EPL, who was in the FIFA World XI.
MOTM, in the CL Final a few months before we bought him. Arguably, Madrid's best player the previous season.
I'm not quite sure you understand just how good he was/is.
If only Di Maria had hung around for another season. This coming season, with Di Marai, Pogba, Ibra, DDG - we would have arguably the best squad in the EPL.

I'm not comparing them (although Pogba isn't far behind despite being a completely different type of player).

I'm all for buying Pogba, but that's just not the case for me. Even at that point you could not list the two best players in the world without including Ronaldo, and Pogba's just not at that level. He's a notch or two below, even if I believe he'll prove to be a top five midfielder in the coming years.

Currently, age considered, I'd say that Neymar is the only player you could buy that would compare to buying Ronaldo at the time Real bought him.

Even at his best i don't think "rooney" was ever a "galactico", but i do agree we have had some great names. shame tevez was not a permanent signing because that would've been another one
