PL W FA Premier League

Manchester United 2:0 Southampton

Post-match discussion

Fri, 19 August 2016

Reminded me of SAF's United a bit. Sitting deep and countering.
I don't really like us giving teams so much time on the ball but this is much better than van Gaal's crap.

I'm so positive! So much optimism! Wow, it feels great!

Shaw's deep runs, Bailly bossing the defense, Pogba just .. wow, Zlatan, Fellaini being reborn, Valencia suddenly being competent .. It's so clear to see that, so far at least, Mourinho was the most important thing that happened this summer.

Did anyone have the feeling that Mourinho's United was playing against LVG's United? Southampton had the same sort of pointless passing game in the midfield as we used to play last year.

And, oh yes, Micky should start in place of Rooney next game. That would be some team.

Really impressed with Fellaini and Valenica, both look like new players under Mourinho.

Blind and Bailly - Dominant
Pogba and Zlatan - Ballers
Shaw looking fresh
Martial getting in form
Mata great
Rooney improving

Hopefully we can build on this performance. Started a bit nervously, but look great when the players got in their zones. A very great performance

We won without really turning up.

After the 2-0 lead, we were strolling about the pitch with a swagger, Pogba was showboating and playing around, Ibra was just bullying defenders, and Shaw and Valencia wouldn't stop bombing up and down the pitch. Oh, we let them try to get through our defense, and Bailly and Blind, supported by Fellaini, let nothing through at all.

We were in cruise control, and the sheer quality of the team showed in our domination. What a refreshing performance.

Martial and Rooney weren't as good as the people around them, but still had 7/10 games.
Zlatan, Pogba, Mata, Fellaini, the full backs and Bailly were all brilliant. Mkhi had a great cameo, too.

I'm fecking excited about what we can do if we actually turn up with maximum intensity. We will destroy teams. Can't wait till the next game!

No has mentioned Valencia yet who was solid both going forward and at the back.

No longer am I filled with anxiety in the lead up to matches.

No longer do we have to wait until the 85th minute for our first shot on target.

No longer do we shit ourselves when the opposition come into our half.

No longer do we shit ourselves when we're defending a lead.

No longer do we play five at the back.

No longer are we forced to throw youngsters in at the deep end.

No longer do we play crab-ball.

No longer do we have a manager sat on his arse with a diary. And finally...

No longer will teams come to Old Trafford thinking they can get at us. The fear factor is returning.

This is a RAWKish post, but I don't care. Best I've felt about a team since we bought RvP.

Couldn't agree more, well said.

What an interview

Brilliant to see our players happy again.

Solid performances from everyone, still a bit lapse with some defensive positions but that will come with more game time. I have to say the last couple games Fellaini has been very good and looked good with Pogba at his side.

The interview was great, love the spirit and banter.

Rashford needs some playing time and soon
They play Hull next week, but that won't be easy, ask Leicester. He might have to wait until the EL and Capital One Cup to start and then it will be up to the team how many games he can get. The further they go, the more games.

You have to give credit where it's due, Van Gaal has laid some great foundations yet again.
Long gone, but never forgotten. Barcelona and Bayern would be nothing clubs now without him.

The interaction with Pogba and Zlatan in the interview at the end was great to watch. Two real characters and they'll be passing on that to the rest of the squad after a long time with low confidence. It could be a great year once everyone gets to know each other better (including Mourinho).

Great atmosphere around the squad with all the new players bringing plenty of character.

Its the beginning of something beautiful.

Pogba was absolutely jizzworthy today. Drop of a shoulder and that fooker is gone. Thought he was supposed to be a midfielder not a winger. Mental. 86m is a bargain.

Think a few of you are going a little overboard.

Yes, we always looked like we'd win, but we should've shown more impetuous as the home team. Didn't give the crowd anything to get enthused about - or indeed anyone watching at home.

Measured, controlled performance that is probably indicative of a post-tournament, early-season game.

Pogba looked a class above, as expected. Ibrahimovic is going to score goals.

I'd question the place of Rooney and Mata in the team. If you're going to concede possession and soak up pressure, then it'd help to have the pace in which to counter attack. Only showed moments of fluidity.

All in all, so so.

It'll take time, but so long as we're getting the three points in the meantime, I can live with that.

Love that post match interview. Some players it can take a while to accept as united players, dont think that'll be a prob with these guys.

 There is nothing wrong with your post. It's a little poetic but you have summarized exactly how I am feeling right now. I also get a feeling that most United fans feel that way today.

So Mou has already coached Fellaini to be our Matic? Fair play.

So enjoyable for a number of reasons. I have to say though I did at times feel a bit uncomfortable when we let them have the ball so much, in the end they never really threatened but I didn't like how many crosses they were getting in. Other than that, an extremely encouraging performance

Pogba and Ibrahimovic are just incredible players. Mkhitaryan showed his class as well when he came on, have absolutely no worries about him, just hope he starts next week so his first start isn't against City. Bailly very good again, likewise Valencia. Shaw a lot better going forward, Martial bright but a bit sloppy, could've scored twice on another day if he was a bit quicker with his shooting. Fellaini doing the dirty work very well.

Biggest complaint about that game was being a bit too sloppy and relaxed throughout, but we were comfortable. A bit too much space between the defenders and allowed Southampton to play too much, but they are a solid team and they didn't create too much of note so pretty good overall.

Great interview

Btw, Zlatan was totally right, if Pogba would have passed there Zlatan would have scored.
