I think you will find that none of the so called top teams have made many top players. It's the lower teams that put us all to shame in that department.
Brown, O'Shea, Fletcher, Welbeck, Evans, Drinkwater, Simpson.. off the top of my head. All still playing in the PL and title winners. There's probably more.
Southampton springs to mind.
I don't see how you can say he was home grown when you had to pay so much to buy him back.
If we bought Sterling back I wouldn't have said the same.

Having a top talent come through the ranks and using him correctly are two different things.
Ronaldo is a Sporting youth player yet he left at 18. Nobody ever applies the same logic there?
The FA classes him as homegrown, thus he is homegrown.

From last 15 years, off the top of my head:
Evans, Welbeck, Fletcher, O'Shea, Brown, Rafael, Fabio, Cleverley, Gibson
Rashford and Lingard haven't won the league but won the FA Cup.
Drinkwater, Simpson, Rossi, Pique and Pogba have all gone on to see top level success elsewhere. And Pogba will get his chance here again obviously.
I thought you signed a few of those to be honest, didn't realise they came from your academy. Were the Da Silva twins youth products?

Of course there isn't it's just a difference of opinion. I don't see Pogba as a United home grown player.

Yeah, he is a real talent. Too bad you signed him from QPR and didn't bring him up though. So going by that logic Pogba is our talent as well, even though I don't think so even if he is classified as a homegrown player by the FA.

Despite playing the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Chelsea away, we've scored 24 goals from our first 8 games this season.
Last season, we had scored 6 goals at the 8 game mark.

Fair enough. I just saw him on the list you quoted when you said "Yeah but we are talking about real talents here."
He's officially classed as home grown by the PL. I don't make the rules.

Yeah I just replied to someone else saying I didn't realise a lot of them were academy products. Credit to Ferguson because he did well to get so much out of some of those players. A bit of a mistake to allow Pique and Pogba to leave but I suppose they needed to go elsewhere to discover their potential.
They were signed at a young age from Brazil. I'd have to look it up to be honest. United have a very good record at producing PL players though. Ryan Shawcross has had a good career at Stoke and obviously the Leicester bunch.
Pique was unlucky because he graduated from the academy at the same time that peak Vidic-Ferdinand were in the first team. Obviously would've been great to somehow hold onto him, but also unfair on the player, and he made the right choice.
As for Pogba, well this summer was all about fixing one of the biggest mistakes in the club's recent history.
People get ahead of themselves with these arguments though. It's just the fact we had Pogba in our reserves should be enough to say our youth system can help develop top young players.
What we do with them is another matter.

They were not. They agreed to join when they were 15 or so but didn't come across until they were 18 due to Brazilian law.

Pique was also allowed to leave because Jonny Evans came through at the same time. That was one hell of a reserve side BTW. They won every competition they entered in 2008 whilst we won the CL.

Well you are right, couldn't look it up before. Still my point stands. Because joining a club at 16 and only spending 3 years there shouldn't mean you are that clubs "product". We could claim Kroos then.
Those three years are the most important of a player's development as it is the transition years from junior to senior football. 100% Pogba is a United academy product both technically and actually.

I read somewhere that's our highest number of goals scored after eight competitive games since the 1895/96 season. Credit where it's due to Klopp because none of Origi, Sturridge or Ings has managed a Premier League goal as of yet.
You know there's as many United fans on here talking about how good we've been so far? I don't think I've seen any Liverpool fans on here suggest we will win the league this year but there's a few United fans who seem to have convinced themselves we're competing with City for the title.
I think we're in with a good shot at getting a Champions League place, but I don't see us challenging for the league.

Look at Martial. Monaco will get the credit but Lyon deserve the same amount of praise for their work with him yet United still have to develop him even further.
Suarez didn't join a side until he was 14 and left for Holland a few years later. Hard to give anyone credit there.

If you think that Pogba was already developed as a player at 15 then you're mental. He was at United for 4 years and is classed as a home grown player by the PL.

The thing is as well that a lot of players move clubs in their junior years. It is just you hear about the ones coming from abroad more.

yeah but I think you'll struggle to find youth players who haven't come from somewhere at some point. I don't think those players would be where they are now if they didn't have the years they did with us. So I think you can still count them as Liverpool youth players, we were a huge part of their development.

Don't think it is this time. They've got the top manager and he's got his team. I think they'll be in the top 4 this season.
They've been the second best team after City and the only one who look like they have a clear plan out there.
Any reason you refer to December as I don't see our fixture list being that heavy and we have little travelling to do as between the 17th and 31st we play 3 successive games on Merseyside.
I think Liverpool are obviously doing well and Klopp is a very good coach but they are clearly not untouchable tactically, and as Burnley already showed beatable.
No doubt, we've got weaknesses like everyone does. I wonder what approach Mourinho will take in the game at Anfield. He's got it in his locker to get a result in a game like that and he knows how we'll play so it'll be about how he tries to counter it.
