Wayne Rooney withdraws from England squad, minor knee injury

The worst part of modern day football is the ever increasing gap between fan and player. So when I see Rooney getting pissed like we might I quite like it. That's something I can relate to. The guys who live in their big glass houses, who never step foot into the city for which they play do nothing for me.

:lol::lol:

I'm sorry but what's the amount he earns got to do with him getting drunk?? If none of us earn as much as he does then that's really not his problem, is it? He's paid to play football which is what he does. People here now suddenly believing everything the Sun says and just assuming that he might have a drinking problem really screams of people needing just any reason to have a go at Rooney.

Unless he passes out on the pitch during a match I don't think its disrespecting anybody. If he's not training or playing good enough Jose will drop him as he's done before. So I really don't get the fuss around him drinking or partying all night. Its his free time and his life. Anyone who gets offended by this or expects every Utd footballer to behave like a saint is living in a world far away from reality.

He's paid for more than football ability. He's captain and should know the responsibility he carries. He is a professional athlete who should do the upmost to be in peak condition.

So yeah he is disrespectful

Great to have Olly Murs down at the Aon Training Complex today ahead of Saturday's big game

He doesn't seem affected, and Jose doesn't seem affected as well.

I absolutely love how someone liked this incident because it helped him relate to a footballer

"Incident."

It's a bloke having an unspecified amount of alcohol on a Saturday night. It's not an incident.

Did you read Herrera's interview this week?? I think he spoke about how much of a positive influence Rooney is on him. All of the Utd players past and present when they speak of him do so in a positive light. People can spin it all that into this being some sort of conspiracy by Rooney to manipulate the media but there's no proof of that.

These are players who actually play or have played the game at the highest level. I think they are more qualified to comment about what makes a good captain or good player than us. We need his leadership qualities in the dressing room and by the accounts of players themselves he seems to be doing a fine job of it.

He's been a professional footballer for one of the biggest clubs in the world for more than a decade. He wouldn't have achieved as much as he has if he was a drunk slob. Players more talented than him couldn't do that so I think it's fair to say he knows how to keep himself fit to be able to play football. Not everyone can be a Zlatan or Ronaldo when it comes to taking care of their bodies. He got drunk a week before a game, not a day before it and it's not like he committed a crime whilst being drunk. People need to be stop being so precious and let footballers live like humans

The F.A. are a real pile of turd aren't they.

He was going to rest his captain against Spain. Don't believe it. He might have done it against a nothing team, not Spain. Also if he thought he wasn't up to playing against Spain he shouldn't be playing for England anymore. If he thinks Wayne was going to get overrun by Spain, how does he think he will do in a tournament.

I don't think it's a case of him getting over run or not rating him or anything. Simply that he knows what Wayne can do why not look elsewhere as he's not going to be around for much longer is he.

Also the bigger issue has to be him wearing his football jersey whilst getting pissed? I mean first of all why? And secondly why?

that was my first thought but on closer inspection looks like a team polo shirt

So if that Sky article is true it seems Mourinho is upset at the FA not keeping an eye on a 31 year old man. The article doesnt even state if Mourinho is angry about Waynes conduct, its all about the FA. Absolutely baffling stance. Wonder if it will alienate certain players who have been criticized in public yet Wayne seems to be defended. Mourinho seems to like picking on 20 year olds just coming back from a leg break while Rooney is treated like royalty. Isolating luke shaw, martial and mkhitaryan who alongside pogba and bailly are your 3 most talented players and potentially huge assets to defend Rooney, fellaini and ashley young.

Keep Mourinho at United.

What article?

I'm not sure I've read interviews with footballers about alcohol consumption during the season, but I've read several with other athletes that avoided it at all cost (skiing and cycling). It has an adverse effect, in particular on your recovery.

One night out might not be the end of the world, but it certainly does him no good fitness-wise. And he needs to be in top shape to warrant a place in our team, if he does at all.

So you find it baffling yet don't know Mourinho's stance on the situation? Keep up the good work lad.

No footballer should be on a bender while on international duty.

Idiot Rooney strikes again.

This one that contains NO ACTUAL QUOTES from Jose, and only spend the barest minimum of time even focusing on how upset Jose is and mostly just regurgitates that Wayne was out drinking.

But it is from Sky Sports so it must be 100% correct!

If Mourinho is pissed off with the FA I would imagine it's because they were present when this was going on and didn't seem to think about the inevitable tabloid articles to follow. Obviously, Rooney's to blame for being an unprofessional idiot but footballers are basically treated like giant babies anyway. It does seem crazy that nobody from the FA thought to step in and remind them that people taking photos of them out on the piss wasn't a great idea.

Always drama with Rooney. We'll be better without him

It's part of the reason NFL teams like the Cowboys had a party house for their players. Jim Kelly, former QB of the Buffalo Bills, tells the story that he built a nice bar/club type thing in his basement in order to be able to have parties for the players and his friends without having to go out to one of the local clubs and have someone make a stink about it.

Jesus Christ, though. We've been a fecking trainwreck since Fergie left. Careering from drama to drama. This season was supposed to be a new dawn but we seem to be finding new levels of farce with each passing week. I would be PISSING myself if this was all going on at a rival club.

Wayne Rooney has “unreservedly” apologised to Gareth Southgate for his behaviour on England duty. The captain admitted the images which emerged of him over the weekend were “inappropriate for someone in his position”.

Rooney was pictured by The Sun looking the worse for wear after he dropped in on a wedding party at a Hertfordshire hotel on Saturday night, sporting an England training top.

The Manchester United player’s antics the night after England’s game against Scotland have disappointed the Football Association, which will review players’ free time on international duty.

A statement on behalf of Rooney revealed he had apologised to Southgate, England’s interim manager, and Dan Ashworth, the FA technical director. “Naturally Wayne is sorry that pictures taken with fans have been published today,” it said. “Although it was a day off for the whole squad and staff, he fully recognises that the images are inappropriate for someone in his position.

“Earlier today Wayne spoke privately to both Gareth Southgate and Dan Ashworth to unreservedly apologise. He would like to further extend that apology to any young fans who have seen these pictures.”

Rooney started the World Cup qualifying win against Scotland on Friday but a minor knee injury led to his withdrawal from the squad to face Spain. Southgate denied after Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Spain that Rooney’s absence was anything to do with images that emerged from The Grove hotel.

Figures within the FA are understood to be disappointed by what has emerged and overnight free time – in place for a number of years – will now be reviewed.

An FA spokesperson said: “All England personnel have a responsibility to behave appropriately at all times. We will be reviewing our policy around free time whilst on international duty.”

It is understood Rooney has been spoken to about the incident and that everyone else involved has or will be spoken to. Matters will be dealt with internally in terms of repercussions, with the players’ code of conduct introduced in 2012 still in place.

A spokesman for Rooney, speaking several hours before the player’s statement, added: “Wayne, along with the rest of the England squad, was on a night off duty. Rather than going out, he chose to stay at the team hotel to relax and celebrate a fine England victory against Scotland. During the course of the evening he was approached by numerous fellow guests for autographs and pictures. As he has always been, Wayne was happy to sign, pose for photos and chat with guests. It is sad that one or two of them have now sought to turn Wayne’s friendly good nature to their advantage.”

Rooney is being assessed by United’s medical staff as they prepare for Saturday’s Premier League game at home to Arsenal.

Rooney has endured a tough campaign, finding himself in the unusual position of fighting for his place for club and country. He ended a recent goal drought in United’s recent Europa League clash at Fenerbahce and also impressed in a 3-1 win at Swansea City on the Sunday before the international break. On the international front, he was dropped to the bench for last month’s qualifier in Slovenia.

“I wouldn’t start Wayne in this game anyway, so we’ll decide which route to go,” Southgate said at the time. “At times too much of that responsibility has laid with Wayne and we need to share that. There are leaders already and other potential leaders who I think can step forward. And once you have a team full of those players then we’ll have a lot of success.”

Fergie had to collect Keane from the police station in the early hours of the morning after a session turned violent.

This is tame in comparison. The big difference is the publics/fans reaction to such happenings.

When does the Chinese transfer window open?

Classic Rooney. The images were inappropriate lol. Not the behaviour.

"I am apologising whole heartedly for the inappropriate pics, I should not have allowed myself to get photographed whilst steaming drunk"

Anyone got the number of a slow boat??.....

That's true. Although you have to admit you'd be loving this if it was Liverpool who were going through all the drama we have so far this season.

Crap article based on Sky sources but that doesnt stop you in making all these extravagant conclusions.

Saying all that Rooney acts like a kid, gets pissed and then says it wasnt really nice from him.
