Television The Caf' Anime Thread

Aaand done.
Still the tearjerker it was the first time.
I really hope they get this movie to my town, or else I'll have to order it when it comes out on blueray so i can give the makers of this wonderful movie some of my money.

I just finished Death Note. It tailed off massively for me, particularly after

L died.

The first third of it was particularly good, though. I've just started Cowboy Bepop and I can't believe how great it is. I almost don't want to watch it, because I never want to finish it. I love the music, the dialogue (it's actually really funny) and the animation. This scene is one of the best I've ever seen, television or otherwise. I'm also really keen on starting Mushi-shi but should probably take it easy. Anyway I've loved reading through this thread.

On episode 21/26 of Cowboy Bebop and I've found some of the episodes extremely boring and unoriginal. It started pretty slow too, but it's got a very cool cast (excepting Ed).

Gurren Lagann is really fantastic.

Kamina :(

Gah that ending is really awesome but also quite sad. And that post-ending scene where Simon is old - I wish they didn't show us that.

2017 keeps getting better. Code Geass sequel, Shingeki no Kyojin Season 2, Gintama 2017, KonoSuba Season 2, Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, and potential Clannad expansion!

I cannot recommend Mushi-shi enough, @Harrisamo. One of my all time favourites and, in my opinion, it's extremely consistent in quality.

As @ADJUDICATOR & @Swaters16 said above, I did find some episodes of Cowboy Bebop to be lacking in quality considering it's high standards (though I enjoyed them all regardless and they weren't bad by any means) but with Mushi-shi I found every episode as good as eachother. Well, near enough anyway.

Regarding Death Notes ending, I hated it! It did absolutely brilliant in building up the climax, and the suspense was killing me it was built up that well, but the outcome, and how it came to that, was a letdown for me.

Is Your Name available online in good quality now?

I've only seen it on a screener, it's more or less DVD quality, very watchable but it's got some chinese hard-subs so it's not like the best but I'd still enjoyed and would probably watch it again in blue ray and would go to a movie theater if they decide to show it on my country *-*.

Cowboy Bebop is excellent it is episodic though but even those odd boring episodes where interesting to me as well, it's not for everybody but they make reference to a lot of movies, rock bands and music. The direction overall is top notch and aside from the episodes involving Vicious my favorite is the one called "Pierrot Le Fou", it's one of the most theatrical. Also I'd recommend the movie, it more or less tries to summarize what the anime and ending is about.

One of the most recent animes I've seen is DAYS, is a football one and I like the approach of it as it is a boy who has no idea about football so he has to learn from the basics. I guess that's the charm about it, specially if you're a football fan because at his pace the main character is constantly learning the different concepts about playing football. The guy itself is supposed to de a forward but he is develops quite weirdly in a sort of defensive midfielder. I also like how his highschool team wear a black uniform and they are all like this badass teams, so while the main character it's not very good he has a good plataform on his seniors to improve constantly.

Agreed on all counts really.
Death Notes ending still gives me nightmares really. It was so brilliant for the first 24ish episodes and the final 12 were such a letdown

Just finished Mob Psycho 100, I very highly recommend it! It's by the same guy who did One Punch Man, and the animation in Mob Psycho is every bit as amazing.

Great! Would you recommend watching it with subs or dubbed? Or is it a general rule that you always go with subs with anime?

I'd agree that Cowboy Bebop can flitter in quality. I also think it largely depends on your mood at the time of watching. There's a strange sort of detachment within the show, but it's one of the reasons I love it. I just finished the episode with Mad Pierrot and it was one of the best episodes I've ever seen of anything! Sad to be nearing the end but also excited to start Mushi-shi!

Whilst it is one of my favourite things ever, I do agree with you in that it, in my opinion, was constantly declining in quality throughout. I enjoyed it all regardless, though.

The first 11 or so eps from up until Light joined the investigation team were absolutely amazing, then from there, Light giving up the Death Note and until L's death I thought it was ranging from very good - good, then after Light takes control of the investigation team until the end I thought it was about decent. I was never that keen on Near and Mello, to be honest. They just made me miss L even more!

Ohhh, the Mad Pierrot ep! That was undoubtedly one of my favourites as well.:D

Regarding Mushi-shi, I watched it dub and loved it, but it's always down to individual preference. I always try to watch dub when I can but subs are fine, too. The main problem for me is that not every anime has every episode dubbed when I'm binge watching. For example, I watched Mirai Nikki dubbed and whilst it wasn't the best dub you'd hear, it was the characters I had grown attached to, but for the OVA that capped off the series I had to watch it subbed because there was no dub for it and it kinda took me out of it a litte. The same happened with One Piece as well. This is relevant because while I watched and loved the dub version, season 2 hasn't been dubbed yet (AFAIK) so I have that same problem with this too.

So, if you're like me in that once you start a dub/sub you want to stick through with it then I'd probably recommend the subbed version, but if not, the dub is great in my opinion.

Either way I hope you enjoy it though because I love it and I feel I may be over-selling it and I don't want you to be disappointed with it. :D

Oh man, I've seen all episodes and the movies. I liked it very much. Kagome San was superb and my display picture in Facebook used to be a Sesshomaru picture. But I haven't proceeded much into the Anime world.
I've never watched it myself but I hear good things about it. I'll have to give it a try eventually.

Kagooomeeee was supposed to be the protagonist of the show, but I dunno - she was kinda bland, bossy and annoying (not as much as Naruto -> Sakura, though). Always had a soft spot for Sango and Kagura over her (both had more persuasive stories and were relatively complex characters). In terms of the entire cast, though, gotta love Miroku (would be best mates with Sanji) + Sesshomaru, and Totosai and his cow, Mo-Mo.

Inuyasha is very good. I was never able to get into Bleach, Naruto or One Piece as they were too long for my liking but back then Inuyasha and Samurai X were the ones I liked the most.

Yeah, that's probably true. It was probably the most 'believable' during the early episodes and become more fantastical over time. The story was still enthralling but required greater suspension of disbelief I suppose. Even though the Light get himself captured and confess plan was ridiculous I loved watching his meticulous planning unfold in order to outsmart L.
Although I didn't like Mello and Near and thought their capture of Light was poorly handled the show really lost it for me (my memory is hazy though) when Sayu (?) is kidnapped and there's a missile launched. Those episodes felt like they totally lost touch with what made the show such an interesting thriller.

That final Kagura scene with Sesshomaru was a bit tragic.

Late but @Harrisamo , Cowboy Bebop is one of those rare times where the dub is arguably as good as the subbed version imo.

Speaking of Death Note, @fishfingers15 , if you're looking to try more anime I think Death Note would be a good place to start. I guess it depends what you're looking for really (action, adventure, comedy, thriller) but I'd say that's as good a place as any to start.

I completely agree with you. The whole Sayu being captured arc just felt out of place but I just took it as the stakes getting higher for Light if you know what I mean. Like, I expected it to eventually take route into sensationalism and just kind of accepted it. So I still enjoyed it, but it wasn't a patch on it's earlier episodes.

A few years befored I watched Death Note, I'd heard from other anime fans that the series declined in quality pretty early on so that probably helped me enjoy it throughout as if I were watching it with no prior knowledge and, after watching the first so-and-so episodes of great quality it then descened into the sensationalist way that it did, I don't think I'd have enjoyed it as much as I did; if at all.

Like you said, it did seem like they'd lost touch with what made it so interesting with those episodes but, on the other hand, I can see why they might have felt they needed to do what they did to show the impact the death note was having on the world. I wasn't a fan of how the story progressed, and it was a shame it kind of lost it's roots to what made it so enthralling, but I can see why. I mean, some of my favourite scenes were just Light and Ryuuk together in Light's room plotting his next move. It was simple but brilliant.

Planning on seeing Your Name in Imax in London

Genuinely can't wait

I'm at the last couple of episodes of Cowboy Bepop and can't imagine watching it dubbed. I've tried subs on a few different things but it always feel wrong. Dubbed also makes it incredibly hard to binge as it requires a bit more concentration! I watched the first ep of Mushi-shi with both, and found the little boy dubbed too annoying.

How come Your Name is still showing in London?! Can't find it anywhere near me.

Thanks @Yagami !

@Harrisamo I'm not sure why but I think the different cinema companies (Vue, Cineworld, Odeon etc) have taken it in turn to show it in bloc for a week or two. Currently it looks like it's on at Odeon this week, and it's going to be at Vue in London in 2 weeks time which is when i'm seeing it.

Sorry for the late reply but if you need help finding the show (dubbed or subbed) I'll help you out if needs be.:)

Such a nice video to zone out to, 6:37 is my favourite.

What would be everyone's favourite anime OST's?

@R.N7

Since watching Mushi-shi I've listened to it's OST probably once a month. It's beautiful. I don't know if it's my overall favourite but it's right up there.

There's so many to choose from. I love all the Dragonball/Z/GT ones (Japanese/Faulconer), Death Notes, One Piece, HxH (90's & 2011). Off the top of my head, along with Mushi-shi, they're the standout ones for me.

Do I dare click play on that GITS trailer, @Invictus ? :nervous:
