Should Wenger be sacked?

Should Arsenal sack Wenger

I'm assuming those who think Wenger shouldn't leave are the rival fans (such as myself) who want him to stay, so as to ensure Arsenal can never win the league.

Think our 6-1 was the first of Wenger's time. We've given them some good hidings since then.

They got thrashed 5-0 by Chelsea at home in the League Cup early in his tenure, but obviously the 6-1 was more significant, as was the 8-2 five years ago. They've also been done over 6-0 by Chelsea under Jose, 5-1 by Liverpool under Brendan, 6-3 by City under Pellegrini, 4-0 by Zlatan's Milan, 5-1 by Bayern, 4-1 by Barca, and even 5-1 by Spurs in a League Cup semi.

Obviously every club gets turned over once in a while (our 6-1 and 5-0 defeats to City and Newcastle still sting) but I can't think of another team of their calibur that get it as often. It's gotta be a mental thing. They just give up.

Arsenal have received so many thrashings over the last years

That's crazy. There's also our 4-0 FA Cup win with the Nani show-boating if that counts.

I feel sorry for Wenger. He appeared completely dejected post-match. Haven't seen him like that before, surely he's a goner.

Arsenal fans are starting to apologise to Van PERSIE. His public statement before he left was a warning to Arsenal fans.

Very savvy by Wenger. Plays his reserve goalkeeper to prioritise qualification for next season's Champions League.

A real long game strategist.

Why? Because team is reflection of their manager? Because he has nice managerial life without pressure to win things,as long he brings money to the board and as for reward he gets nice fat contracts?

Arsene Wenger should never be sacked from Arsenal (ie have a contract forcefully terminated)

However, his rolling contract should not be renewed this summer and his board should find a magnanimous way of ushering him out of their club

I hope this is a sign they'll fall off the top 4 race. One less team to worry about.

Actually when they're off pressure is when they start performing to their best. No point is associating their usual February melt down with the probability of them missing top 4.

i know what you mean, every year we go through this they have their wobble, but always finish top 4, it's literarily the same conversation every year.

Ive bet against Wenger to many times and he always proves me wrong, Arsenal will get top four and so Wenger gets to stay on if he wants.

Hope they sack him and get a David Moyes. However, they're not big enough or rich enough to claw their way back.

He's been bang average as a manager ever since other clubs began to expand scouting networks and tapping the markets he once had the pick of the crop from.

His trophy haul isn't even hat great. Three league titles and 5 cups in 21 years. That's average.

He should be gone in the summer. Would be nicer if it was by "mutual consent" rather than being sacked.

so apparently bayern munich's twitter account is taking the piss about arsenal. Again. Last season Dani Alves came right out and said barcelona were happy to draw arsenal as they knew they wouldn't have to put in too much effort since arsenal would simply bottle it

arda turan signed for barcelona and promptly said if he fails there, he can always go to arsenal

the club has become a punchline for the big clubs and even players. At what point is the board willing to draw the line?

The only chance he had getting a league title, after a decade of playing in the Prem, was to leave Arsenal.

It's not just a sudden blip though or an issue that' arisen over the last couple of years. Arsenal have been this way for about a decade and Wenger has constantly failed to find a solution. Either he cannot solve the problem or he doesn't see one worth solving.

As an Arsenal fan who has said that Wenger is finished at this level, tonight was almost therapeutic. It felt like the beginning of the end.

I'm not sure what the next season will hold for us.. but I just hope there is a new manager. We are in desperate need for freshening up.

Obviously there's a 'stopped clock' element to things like that - it would've looked foolish when he was at his peak, for example - but in the long term, it seems there's at least granules of truth in it after all.

He's a good manager that'll leave a well respected legacy, but he patently doesn't have the mentality to be a serial winner like Fergie or Jose.

i'm honestly afraid the old man does something bad.

It will require you to fall out of the top 4. You need to die to be reborn again.

The thing is though, I don't think any manager can change it around in just one season. The problem is bigger than Wenger, the mentality of the club has to be changed from the players up to the board room.

There is a comparison to be made with Spurs and the sacking of 'Arry. It would be harsh to sack him, but nessisary to get the club moving forward.

I don't think we need to finish out of the top 4, personally. If anything, Champions League football will only make the job of bringing in the necessary players easier for the next manager.

I'm not sure on the accuracy of your second statement but there is a chance you'll be proven correct. Obviously, I hope not. I guess it's a case of finding out whether our weak mentality stems solely from Wenger (as I believe) or the players themselves. I agree that our board offer nothing productive and for that reason, I'm incredibly worried about who they may choose to succeed him.

Wait, this is the UCL round of 16 against Bayern Munchen.

Why did he play Ospina in goal?

The problem may lie with the board find finishing top 4 is acceptable & the way they even their book is very profitable for businessmen. Changing manager would mean they would need to spend more to help the new manager with changing the philosophy. At the same time, Arsenal with this reputation would likely have to pay more than other clubs & break their strict wage structure to persuade new players

That's a good point, I always forget they somehow managed to pull it together. It really feels like such a repetitive loop.

That is throughly shameful. Disgraceful. Seriously, how is Wenger even still in a job to begin with? Can you imagine if Jose had even half of those results, or even two thrashings in the same season? People would be calling for his head.

A manager and a team that constantly get thrashed, year after year, despite being a big club - this is a sign that they lack professional pride. There's no other way to explain it.

He is a specialist in failure indeed.

Have always defended Wenger, but maybe his time at Arsenal has run it's course. I still think he's a great manager, but I can also see why Arsenal fans want a change.

But those same fans have to realise that if they get rid of him, it'll be a tough job for the next manager, same as it was with us. Things could get worse. And there's lots of room to fall below where Arsenal is right now.
