Moussa Dembele, Celtic

Rodgers tearing it up in Scotland. Scousers will be begging him to come back next.

Fair points, I rarely watch Celtic so am totally focusing on the Scottish league to be fair.

I mean the league is utter shit alright, there's no denying that. Celtic were actually 2-1 down at HT today and he came on and scored a hat trick.

People on here had similar things to say about Van Dijk when he was at Celtic, Wanyama too. Now Van Dijk is a Dutch international and will most likely move to a big club for crazy money this summer whilst Wanyama is playing for the team in 2nd place in the PL.

Celtic have a tremendous scouting system and sometimes it's clear as day when they find a standout talent like Van Dijk or Wanyama. But people will throw in that the Scottish league is shit, which it is, but you can still spot the standout talents.

To add to this, he was the youngest ever(?) player to score 15+ goals in the Championship last season, Chelsea's Tammy Abraham just overtook him.

Didn't know he he was the youngest. He was excellent for Fulham last season and Spurs missed out in January when the transfer fell through.

He has scored 37 goals over the past two seasons and it's conceivable he might up up with 50 plus goals in his last two seasons. That's some feat for a 20 year old.

Could start being a pretty fruitful strategy for Celtic, pay up for some clearly promising talent, get them playing well which Rodgers is capable of doing, get them some CL experience and sell them on for a tidy profit.

Hasn't that been their strategy for a while?

Ki Sung Yueng, McGeady, Forster, Wanyama and Van Dijk were all plucked from relative obscurity and sold for substantial profits.

Aye it's been their strategy for ages now. You can throw the likes of Boruc and Kayal into that mix.

How did Celtic manage to pick him up for £500,000 without competition from others (Tottenham aside)?

Celtic are 27 points clear, wtf.

Jeez.

Do Celtic fans even celebrate victories anymore. Year in year out the same thing

The funniest thing is that there was some massive delusion before the season started with people saying Rangers will push them hard :wenger:

My mate made a €20 bet with me that Rangers would win the league. It was such easy money that I felt bad and let him give me a tenner just a few weeks into the season.

Excellent post.

Another 2 goals today. That's 46 goals he's now scored between this season for Celtic and Fulham last season.

Surely off in the summer?

Probably for a £30+million profit one would imagine. The goals in Scotland are worth the sum total of Traveller all by themselves but add that em to the Champions League goals and Celtic's money men should be laughing come summer time.

I'm still reluctant to have an opinion on him given the league he's playing in, I personally see Scotland as less of a league than the Dutch league.

And that's a shit league.

He had 15 goals in the Championship last year as an 18/19 year old. The [Scottish] league is abysmal but his quality is clear, I reckon.

As for him moving in the summer, would it not be worth pissing up the Scottish league for another summer? He's only 20 years old, and it's pretty hard to crack into a big side as the first choice striker at such a young age.

Never seen such domination of a league ever.
Did you see Ligue 1 final table last season?

Hard to judge this guy. It's the Scotish league and all. He's definitely talented, but can't top level readiness? Can't judge

Aye, I would imagine so alright. Celtic will make serious money on him. It's been their model over the past decade or so to snap up players like Van Dijk, Wanyama, Ki etc and sell them on for huge profits.

His agent said recently that Dembele plans on seeing out his contract with Celtic. I don't think that's very likely but I do think he'll stay for another season at least. He'll likely score a load again next season if he does stay, which could lead to more attractive teams looking at him.

Van Dijk and Wanyama were there for two seasons each. Dembele should do the same. Time is definitely on his side.

He should definitely stay for another season but I can't really see it happening. He's also broken into the French U21 side and has scored 4 in 4. Interest in him will be sky high and Celtic are surely going to receive a club record fee for him.

I would love to see him play another season with them but it looks unlikely. Maybe Rodgers can convince him though.

Whats his ceiling price, i would say 30m , if he scores 30 goals a season for next 4 yrs his value wont go up in my opinion

This fecker has scored 29 goals before the end of February lol. He's going to have a cracking tally by the end of the season. Then again, I remember when Marco Negri scored 23 goals in his first 10 matches in the SPL.

So would i. Its a pathetic league. Winning the title is no achievement up there, which is why i find it ironic when they bang on about how many titles they have.

Yeh well done, you only have/had 4 major games a season ffs

Controversial opinion here, but I actually think his record in the SPL is nothing to write home about. He's the main central striker of a very decent Celtic team in a league with a level below Championship. He's got 15 in 24 now which is the same as Ibra for us and we're 6th in a much more competitive league. Considering the amount of chances his team make for him he should be higher.

He seems to have done reasonably well in the CL and for France though. These will be the barometers of his quality, not that joke they call a league up north.

@MadMike I agree that he's not been particularly memorable in the league relative to the hype. It's more his comfort in performing in the bigger domestic games and the Champions League that has stood out.

As I said above, I've got my reservations, the league is poorer than then Dutch. He needs testing at a club mid to lower end of the Premier league for me.

He won't start anywhere above that if he moves and it will knock his development.

Everything that's written in this thread was also said about Wanyama and Van Dijk. You can have all the reservations you want, you can call the league Mickey Mouse, but you can't dispute the kid is a very good player. I'd take him in a heartbeat and was so glad he didn't go to Spurs last season. Could've been another Dele Alli.

Have to also remember that he'll be playing with much better quality around him if he moves to a big club which may I fact make him even better.

I know we were linked with him this past month but if we keep Costa then there's just no point in signing this kid. Batshuayi already can't get a game.

Genuine question, didn't everyone say denayer was a player though after his spell at celtic? he has looked poor this season

Are Wanyama & Van Dijk that good though? I meant Wanyama was making his trade at Celtic then Southampton then Tottenham & no big clubs try to pick him up. Van Dijk similarly.

It's more about they're stylistic for fans' eyes than actual performance to appease top clubs' scouts & managers. I don't say you're wrong on this guy, but when it comes to judge talent, there are thousands of failure before there would be an Alli. This Dembele guy is not as cheap, so there would require more scouting & assessment.
