Herrera was on a yellow for a long time. Marriner was keeping it close and allowed him to play on after his clip on Redmond. And he contributed the decisive ball to Zlatan.
I mentioned that in one of my comments, as I typed he put in a good ball to Zlatan.
Doesn't disguise him having a poor game, same as lingard scoring and playing alright today doesn't disguise his season of underachieving.
Herrera was really wasteful in possession today and couldn't cope with Davis and Romelu, he needs carrick beside

Woohoo.
Actually feel like this is much better than FA cup last year
It is. Last year under vg that would of been it This time you actually feel its the start of something akin to Fergie and 1990 FA cup win.

Absolutely. We lucked it today. And that wrong call tarnished whatever shine the trophy had. I am with Jose, having won this way feels so wrong.

You are disappointed we won?
BAN HIM!!!

ps. never be embarrassed or disappointed when you win. By its very definition, winning is brutal, unfair and cruel on the people who lose.

Anyone having an image where Zlatan takes the trophy and goes in front of the podium and spreads his hands with the trophy?

Simples!

We had Zlatan. Southampton had more energy.

I was puzzled why Mourinho looks so moody after the final whistle, and even during the celebrations but after hearing his interview, it seems like he feels more relieved and emotional than anything. Fair play to Jose for giving credit to Southampton. He's right, if this went to extra-time, we would be in trouble.
Honestly Southampton looked to be suffering the last 15 minutes. Getting sloppy etc. They still made a few chances but we were looking the better team from that point on.

I think he is trying to be modest as well as the fact that whilst nice, its still just a micky mouse cup.

He will be judged on PL and CL wins and this is simply a small stepping stone towards that journey

Bit harsh we didn't have our best game but unlike Southampton we are fighting on ALL fronts we looked like a team that is tired and this week break we have couldn't come sooner.

We won because we scored more goals than they did it's that simple your making it sound like we cheated them out of it when we didn't.

The best teams win even on there off days it's something we've not seen them do in 3 years, so enjoy it.

Southampton did really well up until the 72nd minute, I then noticed we had an extra few inches to play. We did well to come out and play and get the third goal instead of getting nervous.

Well you watched the same game did you not? Seems pretty bloody obvious.
are you always so aggressive? think you should calm down abit.

And are you capable of writing anything more that a binary response?

Matt Le Tissier's face.
Poor Matt Le Tears! He was spitting at half time as well, never seen a rant quite like that from a 'pundit'! I get that he was upset, but 'disgusting' is maybe going overboard for an offside decision!

Posted similar several times either they ran out of gas or mental toughness or we took it away from them. Maybe a bit of all 3

Not the best performance but we won and that's the important thing. They had 2 weeks to prepare and that really showed. Thankfully we were clinical, which we've been lacking this season.

Bloke on MUTV been standing in an empty Wembley stadium for about 15 minutes

"United fans just beginning to leave"

Any moment now he'll break the news that Germany's invaded Poland.

It was a great final, Southampton played really well and we were clinical but we weren't awful they were just better and more energetic.
People who see the win as tarnished need a word with themselves.

That was a poor performance, overall, but we still won in the end. That's what makes great teams great: play poorly but show resilience and win.

I'm still surprised that Mourinho gambled with that midfield setup given that we didn't have Mkhitaryan. With Mkhi, it would have made sense, but without him, Lingard can't provide the dribbling and penetration that Mkhi does. It made defending easier for Southampton with him starting as they knew that he wouldn't be a threat on the ball.

When we defended in the first half, we were struggling to deal with the wide players' movement. Mata really struggled to track back, and Valencia gave Redmond so much room to take him on. On the left, things weren't getting any better as Rojo got too central and gave Ward-Prowse too much room to put in crosses. Against a central midfielder playing on the left wing, Rojo has to get tight on him and force him to dribble. It would have made sense to play him there if he was facing a wide forward, but this wasn't the case against Southampton.

The second half saw us become more defensively solid (even though we conceded that Gabbiadini volley) as Carrick came in to plug up the gaps and support Bailly and Smalling through the middle. The situation out wide didn't really improve much nor did our attacks, but in the end, we still got the winner.

Speaking of which, Southampton did a good job in keeping Martial quiet, but once we moved to the 4-3-3, the midfielders started getting pulled towards Herrera and Pogba, allowing Martial more freedom and making him a bigger threat even though we didn't have enough possession to really make use of him. Overall, Southampton were very well-organised and well-drilled, defensively, whilst we looked slower and more static than we ever did. It was obvious that Southampton were the fresher side, but we still did a good job in the end.

Yoshida did a great sweeping job at the back, and he really deserves a better partner than Stephens who often gets caught out and is unaware of his surroundings. The Ibra winner was mainly due to Stephens being lost, once again, so Puel really needs to find a way to prevent him from costing Southampton more points.

Well, we go into the history books which is the main thing but except for the second goal we hardly strung a series of passes together to créate an attack. Reminded me of the 99 CL final, poor performance but great to win.

Sympathy for Southampton, they played really well and surley the disallowed goal was legit ?

Don't underestimate this was a huge cup final for them so they were not going to roll over, they were going to fight from the start.

Are you mixing up Lingard with Herrera?

Lingard had a booking for a clip earlier, and got away with one on Redmond.

I don't recall Herrera coming close to a second booking?

lol that interview

Interviewer to Pogba "Paul how does it feel to win blah blah"
Pogba "It's important for me, the fans and Manchester", then pats Zlatan on the back and says this is why we bought him

Zlatan "bout me?? they bought you I came for free" ROFLOLCOPTER :lol::lol:

The only reason southampton could play the way they did was because of 16 days of rest once their fitness dropped we could match them.
We played 4 times in 12 days they played 1 in 16. Everything they did for last 16 days was for today and they still came up short. We on the other hand had many games to take our attention and still came through. This is what great teams are made up of. We had luck with offside goal, they had luck with 2 sending offs. I think we are rightful winners. Onwards and upwards now thankfully for a rest and we go again next week.

Accusing people of dwelling on the performance too much, as if the performance should be ignored because the team won some insignificant trophy

You are disappointed we won?

Never said I'm disappointed. I just wish a refereeing mistake didn't ruin our cup win.

Again, when did I we cheated ? Sorry if I sounded like that. Southampton were easily the best team today for the entire 90 minutes. Had that goal counted, we probably might not have comeback from the deficit. Probably might have. But that claim oppo and haters could make that a mistake changed the course of the game makes me a tad dejected.

Loved that winning goal, knew it was in from the second it left Ander's foot.

Couldn't cope with Davis, Romelu and JWP and Redmond. They did what they could and it was enough. It was a battle in there and battles aren't pretty. Lingard was essential in supporting Zlatan. Valencia didn't get up the pitch consistently until the last third of the match when it was stretched.

Hard to be so critical on some of these players when it was a tough, tough match that Soton was executing perfectly at times. And you have to wonder how Mkhitaryan's absence impacted the team. Mata wasn't mentally in the match and you can see how subdued his celebrations were.

Two weeks break from football showed today. We looked exhausted physically and mentally.

I think southampton ran out of gas or mental toughness or maybe ours too over for the last 20 minutes

I agree, we were tired and they bossed us for 70 minutes. However after that Southampton tired too and the game became even. It resembled two heavyweight boxers after ten tough rounds slugging away at each other with finesse and composure thrown out of the window.

If I were a Southampton fan I'd be massively proud of the performance while being a touch concerned that they couldn't continue their domination of us given the difference in rest between the two squads.

As for us, we rode our luck and fronted up when it mattered. The match day thread was mostly negative, with good reason in my view, so having got the job done I'm happy to reflect on the positives; goals against the run of play, getting up off the canvas when we conceded so early in the second half and getting a superb late winner.

I lost count of the towering headed clearances and kicked clearances from Zlatan inside the box. Our defenders can't defend so he took the liberty of doing it for them...

Feck me didn't he clear the ball for the passage of play that led to his goal??
