'It's just the Mickey Mouse Cup, remember all the years we finished 4th and were out of the Champions League by early March the following year?'
Whow. A win and thats all that will count as far as the record books will show. But what a fortunate win. The best team on the day lost. A reverse of the 2005 cup final when we were beaten by Arsenal having played them off the park. Mind you thats football.
No one said life was fair.![]()
I'll never forget this final for a few reasons.
Zlatans performance
Zlatans late winner
Scaring my 3 year old daughter to death after the Zlatan goal then her joining in with the celebration and running around the room with me despite not having a scooby about what was going.
For all the Oppo fans and others who have snide digs at this Trophy you need to realise that it's not the trophy it's the mentality.
Think about it for a second... 2 of the biggest winners in the History of world football continually and in somewhat of an annoyed tone mention the Charity shield by way of correction each time the press ask them about their first trophy potentially being the league cup. The charity shield ffs!!
This is the difference between the all time greats and the winners and between the winners and the losers
Does anyone dig at this trophy these days> That's so mid 90s!
There's 3 trophies to win, and huge teams have won 1 trophy in a decade. So you can't knock it.

I have been on Redcafe for many years. I can't recall anyone on here calling it anything other than the MM cup. I'm not surprised by the revisionism, bound to happen.

Nah that's not true, I'd say the majority on here are respectful to this Cup.I have been on Redcafe for many years. I can't recall anyone on here calling it anything other than the MM cup. I'm not surprised by the revisionism, bound to happen.
To be fair it is a Mickey Mouse cup. What would have been shit is to lose the so called Mickey Mouse cup to a team like Southampton (no disrespect, but they're a team we should be beating). We've been through a hectic period since Fergie retired, so any trophy no matter how small is still a fantastic feeling.
The season ain't over, and a trophy is a nice start to our huge fixture list. If we finished the season outside of the CL places and no other trophy other than the League Cup then that'd still be a bad season.
HARD AS FCUKSIX FOOT FIVE
Can't help but think things would have been a lot easier had we rested more players for the away game v St. Etienne. Though that's easy to say in hindsight I guess. The squad was tired, one of the our biggest problem is the lack of turnover
Ibra, Pogba, Herrera play every game, even the useless game.

Just back from the game. We didn't really deserve it, and the vast majority of the game was torture, but nothing beats a late winner...except a late winner in a cup final! Almost fell down two rows celebrating, so safe to the lads who caught me!
Feel a teensy bit bad for Southampton, because they were excellent (and because we mocked their light display after the winner, only to find out when we left that it was a tribute to their dead owner, so that probably looked classless) but posterity won't remember that. It'll remember Zlatan coming, seeing and conquering. I've never been critical of him, but I could see why some thought he missed a lot of sitters and many of his goals were the product of experience more than genius. Today surely ended all doubt though. That was proper. That was match winning. That was Cantona.
I can't really think of anyone else who actually played well. Even Herrera, who was probably our second best performer, continues to lose possession in ridiculously dangerous places through sheer sloppiness, and Pogba's infuriating insistence on inviting multiple people towards him when he's loads of space on the half way line, just to prove he can roll/turn/out muscle them continues unabated. How that game ended 11 a piece was a miracle with some of the flailing challenges (mostly from us) abounding.
But feck all that. We won, I'm buzzing. The big plate and the silly little three handled cup may not be the most prestigious silverware, but they're the only silverware available at this stage, and they're both ours. And we're still the holders of the FA Cup. This side is going places.

Bailly..future legend.
Agreed, noticed it against St. Etienne too. Imagine having wide players who can actually deliver accurate crosses most of the time?Watching those Southampton FB's contributing so much in attack and being relatively good defensively you really have to wonder how good our side would be with proper FB's. LB especially needs sorting.
Really? It was his failure to clear a regulation clearance that led to the "non goal" and he could have given away a pen. Look he showed desire but he's not a top class LB and never will be.He was absolutely awful. A liability today.
Rojo, on the other hand was good.
