Champions League Round of 16 (14th Feb - 15th Mar)

If we were talking about Real doing this feat with Ronaldo doing what Neymar did today you would say this is the greatest comeback ever and the game that crowned Ronaldo as the best ever, if you want to talk about football at least bottle your bitterness to enjoy it later in the privacy of your house, you're trying to discredit what's evident

First of all I acknowledge what Neymar did today but if it had been Real Madrid the whole world would be salty and focus on the two penalties, like when winning against Napoli over two legs the overall consensus is Napoli was the better team and the score flattered Real Madrid. It was a great comeback and Barcelona had the right attitude but I wouldn't call this a 'miracle' performance given all that was involved to make this comeback possible.

From 700/1 or whatever were the odds, now Barca is less than 3/1 to win the CL. Whoever put money on Barca before this can get rich.

Just watched the final 10 again, found the full game online to re-watch it.

The Suárez "dive" was a penalty, it was actually really good refereeing on the night.

Marquinhos has no eyes on the ball, looks at Suárez, arm across his body for a few seconds, contact on the knee it was a penalty even if it was soft.

It wasn't even Suárez going down that was suspect, Marquinhos gave the referee a decision to make and if his eye was on the ball it might have been different.

The last 10 minutes watching it again is still utterly bizarre, what a turn around.

I agree on the penalty decision - defender makes several obstructive interactions.

Can you PM me link to entire game - I'd like to rewatch in real time too!

My thoughts exactly.

Congratulations! You are a Barca fan I assume?
Not at all, just like an underdog story. Admittedly, they might've gotten some luck with the second penalty but all in all they deserved to go through imo. It's PSG's approach to this game that killed 'em in the end.

Madrid will get drawn against one of Sevilla, Atletico, City, Dortmund. I assume the other half of the round of 8 will be a combination of Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern, and one of the four that didn't get drawn to the Madrid's half.

High-quality QFs! In a one-off game there's no way to call a winner for most of them, though I guess Atleti and Dortmund have had the overall worst seasons from this lot. I hope it's not the big 3, especially not Madrid.

I know a lot of people are talking about how the referee helped Barcelona, but credit still has to be given to Barcelona for coming back, especially after Cavani scored the goal. If it were Arsenal, they would have lost 3 - 4 with a player sent off.

What, me remembering your opinion or Ox's CM revelation? :D
The former. The Ox has been decent, but we're overall piss poor, so he's standing out. He's a genuine talent though. Will probably make it in a different club.

I see that someone on Betfair got them to win the CL at 700/1.
No way, surely this is a promotion with a very small max bet? There's no way Barca was 700/1 to win the CL after the first leg. Even Arsenal was at 150/1 after they lost 1-5 in the first leg. I remember seeing Barca at 50 and then it dropped to 41. Fair play to anyone who placed a substantial bet (like 1,000 or more) on Barca to win the CL after the first leg, they are pretty much rich now seeing they could cash out for quite a lot.

Without ref's help, Barca wouldn't make through though. It's a fact.
Oh come on mate, you honestly think the ref is responsible for all of their 6 goals? Even if the ref did favour them, they had to score 6. SIX goals.

First one is debatable. Rio thinks it was a blatant penalty. I don't think theres anyway to say it wasn't or was a penalty, it's a debatable one.
It is debatable but I think Neymar ran into the guy who fell.

All those saying Liverpool, they had 45 minutes to score 3, we had three minutes. We all know City fans are going to mention the Aguero moment all day as well.

1. United 99
2. Barca 17
3. Liverpool 05

All were amazing and rank up there as amazing.

They were probably 700/1 when needing 3 goals with 5-10 minutes of regular time to go last night.

Oh right, this makes complete sense now, thanks for the clarification. :) just goes to show how incredible Barca's comeback was. A 100 euro could have net you 70k. Blimey.
When I had to go through 14 games and still a pretty long shot to get there, I'm so so envious of anyone who placed that bet. I would have honestly but I was away when Barca made it 4-1 and 5-1.

Barca did not deserve to go through. Di Maria should have got the penalty not the diving rat.
Compared to Dortmund or Bayern Barca has not played very impressive at all.
They managed to make 6 goals out of maybe 3 real chances.

How can you say we had 3 minutes? We had 45 minutes the same as Liverpool, except we couldn't manage to score until a couple minutes towards the final whistle.

What's funny is that Suarez/Messi were pretty poor for their standards.

Neymar was sensational and kept driving the team forward.
Interesting that for the first half/phase of the season, it was Neymar letting them down and the other two carrying the team. Pretty apt that once Neymar has got back to his best he takes the centre stage at an age where you feel he should take the crown now as the best footballer in the world.

Well that person still has to wait until they possibly win because they need Barca to win CL. You are in a better position IMO as Madrid and Arsenal bets are more likely.

I don't understand this criticism about "they scored 6 goals but didn't play a great game"

Well excuse me but I've been following this team and watching almost every game for the last two decades, and like any other team there's day like this (well, not like this, closer thing would be Depor vs Milan or Utd vs Bayern) that everything clicks together for the team to make history, and a lot of other games where you put 11 Angels in the field, they dance with the ball giving us one hell of a performance and end up losing 0-1 and out of the competition

What most people fail to see is that this club has reinvented itself in the last decade, we were the ones that always cracked under pressure, the bottlers that lost to Benfica with 3 posts, the same team that missed 4 penalties in another final in the 80's or that saw a lot of leagues go to Madrid after failing to close them. 20 years ago if you made a poll asking what club would be the first to come back from a 4-0 in the first leg Real, Bayern, Milan, Juve or United would be the main options, just a couple of people would be dumb enough to say Barcelona. We were that team that a lot of times played like the angels and lost anyway, while Madrid could win any game with their 9 scoring with the butt and for a Culé like me this is not just a magical night for all the obviuous reasons, this is also our vindication to say "No sir, comebacks are not just a Real Madrid thing anymore, we're not only equal to those guys when our players have to put their guts to create a miracle, we're now even better!"

Yea, it was a penalty. Still, PSG really have themselves to blame, that was some awful defending and overall bad play. When Cavani got the away goal you think that'd have been it. Massive bottle job.

Very weird game, barca definitely did not play like they were 6 goals worth today. Let's just say A game like this fuels conspiracy theories.

Yes the lucky bastards.

Only United and Liverpool qualify in my eyes as they were finals.

Just re-watching a few bits this morning..

Berwick Rangers could've come back from 4-0 against the shit show PSG put on last night. This result is 10% Barcelona, 90% PSG.

It was on the Betfair exchange so was open on running and matched by another person.
