Top 4 race 2016/17

Really thought we were out of it.

If Mourinho could manage to avoid defeat until the end of the season (assuming we beat Swansea at home etc) I'm sure we could do it. A win in one of the last big three games would be a big boost too.

If only some of those ridiculous home draws were wins, just one or two of them.

Draw at City wouldn't be too bad after Liverpool's result. For either team.

While mathematically we're now at the mercy of the teams around us, and the performance today was pretty awful to say the least, I still think we're in with a good shout at top 4.

It's fine. It's good. It's fine. It's fine.

But can these hard fixtures for United hurry the feck up?

City is a start. But Tottenham and Arsenal too

A win at City would really make it interesting. As of now, I'm still pessimistic because we have such tough fixtures coming up.

Still think we'll probably need Liverpool to slip up twice. Massive day though.

Once you've finished celebrating another forgettable memorable European night where do these two semi final legs fit in?

Aside from Rojo and Ibra, Rashford and Pogba look like they're already done. Rooney, Martial and Fellaini to start against Burnley?

Poor Dumbstar revelling in the fact we picked up injuries and would be forced to select unfancied players against Burnley.

Of course two of them score in a comfortable win.

27- City Away
30th - Swansea
4th - Celta Away
7th - Arsenal Away
11th - Celta
14th - Spurs Away.
17th - Southampton Away.
21th - Palace

How many points do we think we'll get.. I'm thinking 11-12. Need Liverpool to drop 4-5 more points.. Only 4 games left for them and they arent that tough.

I just really really want us to finish top 4 AND win Europa League so we take a champions league spot we don't need!

I can't believe we're still in it, it's ridiculous given how many points we've wasted throughout the season.

Between the City, Arsenal and Spurs games in addition to the Europa semi games, the next few of weeks will be squeaky bum time, indeed. It's all there to play for, and a true test of character for our players. When the going gets tough, and all that!

Even a draw against City on Thursday would be a good result, seeing that with a point we'll still get above Liverpool if we win our second game in hand. I do want City to miss out on top four though, so it's best if we beat them.

Still a big ask for us make top four - even with a win at the Etihad.

Would be a herculean effort on our part to beat Celta over two legs and come away from Tottenham and Arsenal with positive results, all in the space of 10 days.

Followed by Southampton away three days later.

Buckle up.

Dont do it to yourself lads. Europa is where the party is at. We basically need to beat Arsenal City and Spurs away all with Celta Vigo in the middle of it. Not saying its impossible its just fecking difficult especially with the Injuries we have at CB

It's in our hands once again, after the amount of times we've failed to take advantage of such things leaves me weary of being to confident but I do think we are hitting a patch of good form and remain tough to beat, that and the cup run in the Europa League should do nothing but give us confidence in this race.

Today wasn't supposed to be tough either

Honestly at this point it's just best to take it on a game by game basis. Europa league is obviously a must win, and thankfully Jose didn't share my sentiments and go all in for that tourney. The unpredictability of the league means we are in with a strong shout of getting 4th, but the most important thing? It's in our hands now! We're not relying on other results as win all our games from here on and we finish 3rd.

Jose has to literally take each game as it comes, to be a final because unfortunately we are competing with a depleted squad and no doubt there will comings and goings over this last period of the season.

I really want us to win it alright.

I wont be crying any tears if 5 English teams end up in the CL. The more of our rivals having distractions the better.

That said top 4 has really opened up and we are coming into form at the right time.

If we beat them thursday we are in great position to arrive even third

Yeah.. but its funny because it was unexpected. twice more in 4 games would be pushing our luck.

edit: And palace just beat Chelsea and Arsenal. this wasnt a HUGE upset. They are playing well.

That would be glorious, especially if it's of the expense of City or Liverpool

We are in really good form in the league i agree. Just these damn injuries fecking everything up and not letting us rotate

Liverpool have given us an in, but 2 games in hand doesn't always equal to maximum points taken.

I still think that we have too many tough away games. Although today was a step in the right direction.

The City and Arsenal games are the ones we need to win. If we win these two, even a loss against Spurs shouldn't matter.
That makes no sense. What if we win the Spurs, and City game, but not the Arsenal?

United 13/8
Liverpool 8/15
City 1/9

We've got all the momentum though. I can see Liverpool struggling at Watford.

Am I the only one who's absolutely loving this? It's not the same as our days for challenging for titles obviously, but a period of games where we have it all (that we can accomplish at this point) to play for is exciting. A European trophy and a top 4 place, all determined by the games we have to come, with so many of those games in the league against our direct competitors. I'd say we haven't had a period like this at United in a long time. Forget worrying, I say bring it on ! Jose will have in his mind what he wants us to do, and the players look like they're up for the fight at the end of the season.

Other than in January where the issue was playing more than 1 game a week, Liverpool have tended to respond positively to defeats. So I would expect them to win against Watford, it's also an 8 day gap against a side with not much to play for.

More interested to see how we perform at the Etihad. Pep would be more than eager to dissaude any likely criticism of him.

It will be one game at a time for Jose and I feel we can make it at both Europa and league at the expense of Liverpool.

That makes no sense. What if we win the Spurs, and City game, but not the Arsenal?

Think he was trying to imply that we're not likely to win all 3, but more likely to beat City and/or Arsenal than Spurs which would potentially give less significance to that particular game in the run in.
