Fabinho

Would tick a massive box for us in midfield plus added bonus is he's very good in the air. Yep not surprised if Jose attempts to sign him.

I honestly don't see it with him. He's in that Matuidi/Naingolan/Khedira category where i think i must be watching a different sport.

I haven't seen much of him at all but I thought he was pretty poor last night considering all the recent hype on here. In saying that, Juve thoroughly outclassed Monaco.

It was a similar performance to the one i saw in the first leg against City. He just seems to get bypassed a bit, maybe due to his positioning. Not sure if a more disciplined destroyer like Gueye would be better for us, depends what we want.

Big fan of Gueye and I think he would be a good signing for us.

All 3 of them better midfielders than we have had in the last 10 years except for Pogba
Don't be silly, Scholes and Carrick are easily better than them and they are on a par with Fletcher. Being better than the likes of Cleverly, Ando and Gibbo is no badge of honour.

Yeah he does look good, except that one game against Liverpool where they were crap in general. But, although I'm not one that bases all my opinions on stats, his stats are pretty amazing for this season. I'm sure i read that he'd made the most tackles in all European leagues or something like that.

It surely isn't, however, it shows what poor players we have had in recent years (btw add Fellaini; Morgan, Basti etc. to that list)...

You know a thread is going to shite when Matiudi and Khedira are being claimed to be better than Scholes. :wenger::wenger:

Not too sure about Fabinho.
Tony Kroos - all day long.

I am not convinced that we need another water carrier, Herrera does the job well. We need a mercurial passer from the middle. Someone who can control the game. Pogba's passing is decent but he is no Scholes. Every big team needs those players who are adept at controlling the midfield. We had Keane and Scholes, and then Carrick and Scholes. Real have Kroos and Modric. Bayern have Alonso and Thiago. Barca were at their best when they had Busquets and Xavi in the midfield. Our attack will benefit so much if we can get at least one player with excellent passing and vision in the middle.

Jose's bought Cesc at Chelsea for the same purpose. It gives me hope that he'll like a similar player for our midfield, and Kroos fits the bill.

Yeah I think I posted a link in his thread a while back to that article. His stats last season were immense too and he was playing for an awful Villa side at the time.

I will pay 120 for Mbappe if I have it, keep him for 12 years and watch him rule the world.

He won't stay for 12 years. Real Madrid will come knocking and he will force a move in 3-4 years.

Thought the game just passed him by last night. Him and Bakayoko had a tough night, Moutinho was excellent when he came on. I thought I was all for Fabinho (albeit based on very little evidence) but after seeing the influence Moutinho made in comparison it just makes me think we should get players who can create and not just 1 dimensional holding players who offer completely nothing if they arnt playing well defensively.

"Alternatives are Toni Kroos"

Kroos would be my muppet midfield signing this summer. I've always thought he was a United kind of player who would handle the pressure of expectation.

Moutinho is playmaker, Fabinho is a water carrier. They were both on at the same time (instead of Moutinho+Bakayoko) because a midfield needs balance.

We have Pogba and Herrera to do the playmaking for us, if we move for Fabinho it will be for him to be purely a sitting DM that shields the defence. Mourinho has used such player well in the past.

Though Fabinho didn't really have a good game last night night, I agree. Him and Baka struggled with Pjanic and Marchisio. It would be over the top to write him off based on 1 game though, he has been great for Monaco this season in League and CL.

The rumour was, everything was in place for his signing before 2015 season but it was canceled because LvG didn't want him.

My point is more along the lines of the fact he was useless defensively and often in bad positions. He offered very litte going forward so my point is Moutinho was doing easily the same thing in a defensive aspect but then with the ball offered so much more.

Last night the whole Monaco team looked lethargic and a bit off. I do think he lacks a bit of aggression and energy sometimes, the best holding players in the PL certainly have that like Romeu and Wanyama.

Yes, the whole team looked lethargic.

Would be harsh to judge the boys entirely on yesterday's game.

I was looking out for Bernando Silva and he was as underwhelming as the rest. Only Mbappe showed a few signs of class and he fizzled out in the second half.

Agree, if we'll judge by one game then Griezmann was having a nightmare against Madrid and did nothing.

Their players got quality but the team tactically is just not on the same level of a team like Juve.
