And the general consesus was that most of our players were shockingly bad last season. It would seem way too much of a risk
He's a one trick pony who isn't a well rounded footballer. Left footed player who will jink around you and puts in a hopeful, pacy cross. He's no better than Zaha the fact that they will tactically get cancelled out of the game and cannot be relied on for consistent output. Will showcase the raw ability yes but how else does he support the team if he is not playing to his talent. Does he make sacrificial runs, press, pass unwillingly, tactically flexible? At Juve, he'll contend with Cuardado?
He plays for Bayern
Well this was probably Costa's worst season and he still did decent numbers. He was clearly unhappy with his position at Bayern and he didn't seem to respond in the right way. Mkhi and Martial both had great performances the season before, showing that these slumps do happen. It doesn't mean they won't be great again in the future. Mkhi in particular had some great performances last season even though there weren't enough of them.
As for the one trick pony argument I don't agree with that. He's a very good dribbler and he's a great crosser which would be very useful with Lukaku up front. We're very lacking in terms of dribblers also, we only really have Martial, Mkhi, and Rashford that are capable of going past loads of players on their own (maybe Pogba too). Considering the poor form of the 3 last season (with some good patches) we could definitely use another player like that. I'm not really convinced that Perisic is as capable of dribbling past players. The last point is fair, he would definitely have to contribute much more to the defensive side if he was to play for Jose but Mkhi didn't contribute defensively before we signed him either and he's a consistent starter now. Depends if he's willing to work hard and learn or not. I think he would.
His playing for Bayern is probably why he didn't get more goals and assists. He was competing with the likes of Robben, Ribery, and Muller for a spot in the team who seemed to be favoured ahead of him anyway.
