Yes. I think we need the athleticism of Pogba in the middle of the pitch. That leaves out Ander for the DM which I know is not his best position. I believe that James would do much better job in the advanced midfielder role than pogba. I think this is where it's a good headache to have with squad rotation.
I think so too, he knows he's good enough to be a top level player as he showed under Ancelotti and with players like Pogba and Lukaku behind and in front of him he could be extremely important for us, he'd flourish IMO.
Doesn't convince me, sorry. I feel Mourinho won't shut Rashford's door, so will always start a forward on the wing. Besides, James and Mkhitaryan would be overlapping too much. The Armenian always played very centrally, like Mata, when starting on the right-wing.
And would definitely pin down the 4-3-3 most fans want.

I do not particularly agree that José has to play with a forward on the wing as I only remember that being effective at Inter which was years ago. If anything, a wide forward would be essential for the purpose of increasing the goal tally and Martial fits the bill more than Rashford and certainly more than Perisic.

Herrera would play the holding role, not Nainggolan. Fabinho makes more sense if we're going 4-3-3.

He would only make sense alongside Pogba in 4-3-3.This kinda highlights the problem I see with us this season unless we resolve it with another attacking player with that X factor. There is a lot of support compared to genuine goal threat in Lukaku. I prefer your second line up. In that, I see Pogba, Micky and James shouldering the supply, but we would need more than Lukaku to be burdened with goals. Just my way of saying I'd rather us have a goal threat where Perisic is,
Too early to tell, really, there's too many conflicting signs. We could be going hardcore 4-3-3 with Nainggolan, go 4-4-2 diamond or just keep 4-2-3-1, which I feel is still the most likely. Right now, if I had to risk it, but I have many doubts, we would start the season with something like this:
Pogba is wasted in that formation though far to deep for a player of his ability and he can't roam free as it would leave the defence exposed.
Our main problem was not being overrun in midfield, what limited our season decisively were those home games we had 25 shots and still draw. I always think the basic formation the one for those games, where we should be imposing our game, not those were Mourinho goes extra-reactive and mirrors and limits our play to the opponent.

He had good games for us there too, for instance, I remember him, in an incredibly game we've draw although completely dominating Anderlecht away, on a midfield two with… Carrick!
No its not the midfield two situation that constrains him but the formation 4-2-3-1 because the two in that particular formation are supposed to shield the defence and aren't supposed to move forward.
He's a fabulous footballer. Worth taking a punt on although I agree it's a risk paying crazy money.
