Chelsea 2017/18 thread - FA Cup Champs, League chumps

Both Morata and Bakayoko are downgrades on what they had thus they're worse of, at least Arsenal have managed to keep Sanchez and got a better CF than Giroud even if it might not make much difference to them come May

Bakayoko isn't a downgrade on what we had. He is a better fit into a 3-4-3 than Matic was, we've now upgraded at RWB and in Christensen and Rudiger we have two better options than Cahill. Just because Matic looks the business for you (and I'm not denying he does), it doesn't mean he did for us.

How on earth can you think Everton and Spurs have done worse than Chelsea? Laughable

Everton have done nothing to replace their best player; Sandro and Klassen are thoroughly average. Rooney looks motivated but is past it and I don't think he'll keep up his form for the whole season.

Perhaps I was hasty in putting our window above Spurs'; I'd put them on par all things considered. I don't think they've done enough to address the weaknesses in their team, namely the lack of a pacy wide attacker who can change the game late on. Yes they have Son, but he's most effective through the middle for me.

Not true. He can not shoot as well as Moses and is defensively as poor as Moses. Slightly better crosser and slightly worse dribbler.
At best a backup for Moses. Which isn't saying much since Moses should be our backup wingback in the first place.

4 top Italian teams needed a RB and none of them went for him.
Italian Glen Johnson.

Good point, in fact Juventus (De Sciglio), AC Milan (Conti), Inter (Joao Cancelo) and Roma (Karsdorp) chose other RB.
Imho Zappacosta is good, but not enough for Chelsea.

He's a much better shooter than Moses, a much better crosser than Moses, better stamina, better height, better strength, better from set plays, etc. Would you ever in a million years trust Moses to take a corner?

Enough to tell you have not seen a minute of his games. Stop bullshitting.

Let's wait and see huh.

People were convinced we had a great window last year and Chelsea had one of the worst. They then won the league with ease.

I firmly expect Chelsea (and unfortunately Liverpool) to challenge us for the title this season.

Chelsea are a small injury to Morata or Alonso away from missing out on top4. No where near title contenders.

Liverpool haven't addressed a single weakness. Won't be close to the title yet again.

There's a lot of players who have now played for both Manchester United and Chelsea

Not seen much of Zappacosta, I imagine most in here haven't either. Was underwhelmed with Alonso and he's been great for us, so not going to make any uninformed predictions or anything regarding him yet. I trust Conte with regards to defenders.

Drinkwater on the other hand, feck me. It is probably the least inspiring signing I've ever seen. Absolutely average in every single regard.

Haha ok. Except for the fact that they have basically identical conversion rates (.0071 vs .0072 for Zappacosta vs. Moses) despite Moses playing as a forward for the first half of his career. That Zappacosta has managed to convert shots at the same rate from what are assuredly worse positions means that he's a better shooter of the ball. I stand by my assertion.

Stop rating players using squaka ffs. Pull up a couple of Torino games (especially against lesser sides) and see for yourself. Have seen him play about 5 times and the only thing that stood out about him was his good crossing and his poor finishing.

Tbf, 5 times is a very poor sample to make a decent opinion. Especially for a RB with regards to shooting.

In a couple of games Torino were thoroughly camped in oppo's half so there were plenty of shots going around. Fwiw, I don not think he is a clear upgrade on Moses if at all as claimed by @TheMagicFoolBus.

Good lord, you're trying to lecture me about watching a player and you're talking about a 5 game sample size? I watched 20+ Torino games last year and I'm using stats to supplement my opinion, hilarious that you're trying to talk down to me when you are this clueless.

Whats the reason that a Chelsea fan watched 20+ Torino games? Highly doubt it.

Ok, if I believe you then your judgement of players if simply very poor. That's even worse.
He is nowhere near an upgrade on Moses as you claim. Infact, I am willing to put a sizable bet on Moses starting more games than him this season if such a market existed.

@Spiersey any Idea what size of bet it would take for a bookie to make such a market?

Wanted to get the measure of Belotti plus my sister in law is a Torino obsessive.

Your wife is a Benfica obsessive. Your sister in law is a Torino obsessive. Have to say it's quite lucky that you seem to have family members who are obsessive of the European clubs.

Being rejected by Barkley is a blessing in disguise for them. He's not near their level tbh.

Yep, the family I've married into is Portuguese. My wife and her brother love Benfica, while my sister in law is Italian and is from Turin.

I'm up for a friendly wager. Zappacosta is absolutely a Conte-style player and I'd be shocked if he doesn't play regularly going forward.

Its not emenalo, fans just hate him since he wanted to hire Pellegrini over Mourinho and then played a role in his firing.

Its Granovskia that is the cause of the problem. They (she and emenalo) are trying to create a process out of football management with all their rules fecking noobs.

Matic sold for £40m, Drinkwater for £35m. :wenger:

Matic was £35m + 5 in add-ons. So pretty much replaced him with the money received.

And for people that like age so much... Drinkwater is 27.5 he'll be 28 in a few months. There's just one year and a half between them.

By that logic Drinkwater is 30+5.
Matic is a DM who was playing B2B out of position also Drinkwater is willing to sit on bench which Matic did not want.

Its an okay deal albeit 10m too expensive.
