At one point or another during the just closed transfer window, there were reports linking some players to United during the summer. The ones that really stood out and could have been legitimate reports included:

  • Griezmann
  • Morata
  • Dier
  • Rose
  • Perisic
  • James Rodriguez
  • Renato Sanchez
  • Fabinho
  • Semido
  • Aurier
  • Michael Keane

How are these players faring now? Is there anyone we goofed by not buying? Is there anyone that represents a dodged bullet?

Perisic seems to be scoring every game for Inter :(

All the others have been a big pile of meh imo and been no where near as impactful as 2 of the 3 signings we did make

Aurier is the only one I'd want from there now.

I originally wanted Fabinho over Matic, but certainly not anymore. No idea how Fabinho is doing this season, but Matic has been huge.

Definitely glad we didn't get Keane in the end.

Some Bayern fans that I know aren't that impressed with James.

  • Morata - Lukaku is good enough, wasn't going to buy two strikers.
  • Dier - Matic for a short term is much better than Dier.
  • Rose - Isn't he still injured? Unsure, would have been fine getting him but not too bothered.
  • Perisic - considering we didn't buy anyone else and he has started the season on fire and I believe he would have worked out great in our team for 2 years so yeah slight regret.
  • James Rodriguez - Luxury player. No regrets
  • Renato Sanchez - No regrets. Jury is out if he deserved the hype last year.
  • Fabinho - no clue. Maybe for cover
  • Semedo - No
  • Aurier - Not fussed.
  • Michael Keane - No

Hopefully his wife...

I'm glad we got Lukaku over Morata. His attitude is spot on for United, specially at the moment where a lot of our players seemed quite passive last season.

Only one we seemed to be regretting and that too considering his form is Perisic so far which is highly amusing considering the reaction on here by people who didn't saw him play and didn't wanted him just because of his age. Aurier is far too early to count but Valencia has been great.
We generally got lucky on Keane and Dier.

I don't know if we should have regrets we didn't get Perisic, Inter made it near impossible to get him. If we could have signed him we would have.

Perisic's early form is of a 45-50m player tbf

Too many players in the list were never close to joining us.

For me it's Aurier as he would have sorted the RB position for years.

Not sure how much we bid but it always felt like Inter were moving the goal posts and then trying to get Martial as well.

Tbf to Inter it worked out for them because Perisic is in good form.

You forgot griezmann.

It looked like we tried to take advantage of Inter's FFP problems and then they gave us middle finger.

No we bid what was fair price for a winger like him. Inter Dint wanna loose the player so they inflated the price. There is no reason to see the deal in that perception.

Perisic is the only one for me. Although I think we put in a fair price for someone of his age and the current market. He would have really offered us something different in the final third, so it's a big shame.

They needed 30 Million to break even and as per reports we made bid 30 Million or less than that, obviously we tried to take advantage and Inter handled it superbly.

If we are to have this rotation on the left this season, then Perisic on the right as a fixture would have been brilliant.

I think the fear, or A fear, was Perisic XI signing Martial to obscurity. We expected a 3 man midfield, and had Mkhitaryan down as starting on the right, and Perisic therefore starting on the left.

So what price was perisic worth in this market? Why should we bid more?

Not more than 35 m tops. Doesnt mean we are taking advantage to their situation, We are bidding for the player we need and is a fair price.

For me, hugely disappointed we didn't get Serge Aurier.
I think he will prove himself to be the best RB in the league, and we will regret that decision.

Danny Rose would have also been a terrific fullback for us (as would Mendy) but LB is a position we are very likely to need filling next season, so perhaps the Rose transfer could still happen sometime in the future.

I wanted Fabinho over Matic, but have to put my hands up and admit that I got it wrong about Matic, he has been a giant so far.
Does Fabinho want to return to RB or does he see himself as a midfielder? Next summer we will be looking for a Carrick replacement and possibly also RB cover so Fabinho might still be a possibility.

I was never particularly bothered about any of the other names quoted there, and I believe that we can sign better players for those positions if need be.

You're still living in 2014 transfer market it seems. Perisic was worth more than 35m quite easily, the fact that he has 3 assist and goals in the first four matches is a testament to that.

I don't know what was his worth as it's entirely on Inter to decide but 35 Million tops? No wonder we didn't sign him. Inter have no reason to sell him for cheap as they are loaded and had players to offload.

The market is unpredictable, saying Perisic is only worth 35m tops is ignorant especially considering his form right now. Personally I would have paid up to 40-45 for him and if Inter said 50m or nothing I think we should have paid it, regardless of his stats this season he was always going to bring an extra dimension to our play just because of the way he plays.

If you want to just pay 35m and miss out on good players that's fine, I also bet you were one of the people mad at 40m for Matic. I think Perisic in our current market, whilst being unpredictable I think 40m is probably a fair price, however, he was of more value to United in my opinion since he fits us well and balances our team nicely, for us maybe add on 10-15m in this market.

Would he be playing day in day out in our team? No . You dont pay more than that for bench and rotation options who's 28.

Hundred percent he'd be in starting XI.

Aurier looks good but would have been a risk. Perisic would have been useful.

If Shaw comes good Tony V stays fit we'll be fine at FB, if not we'll look foolish having not reinforced here. Otherwise I'm satisfied with our business, two nailed-on starters is a good sustainable addition.

Semedo for €30m. World class right back who could've competed with Tony V or allowed him to be pushed further forward. Aurier is good too, but he's not on Semedo's level.

According to you. 40-45 is fair price going by how he has been playing.

Sadio mane was 34 m last summer who's just 24 and is more useful and creative player with work rate. Perisic was not more than that.

That's why we pulled out. Because He was worth more than that for us who would be a bench and rotation option. If we were so desperate like man city we would have brought him here . But we are not that desperate and will use the money for younger first team options.

Things have changed and both selling and buying clubs are different which makes a lot of difference. How much do you think Mane will cost now if he was to leave? Surely, you don't think 'Pool will settle for 40-45.

Perisic is doing great for Inter, but it's not like last season where we're crying for attackers. We have scored 16 goals! Our attackers behind Lukaku at the minute;

Rashford - 3G + 1A
Mkhitaryan - 1G + 5A
Martial - 3G + 1A
Mata - 0 + 0 (that one is a tad surprising, he's normally our most clinical in the final third)
---------
Unfazed by missing out on most there bar the fullbacks. Rose, whilst still injured at the minute, is a damn sight better than what we have. Aurier is a missed trick, I feel. Valencia is performing to a high level but -controversially - I'm wary as to how long he'll last.

I'd have probably preferred Morata to Lukaku but they're at fairly equal levels.

He's a 45m player, no doubt
