World Cup Qualifiers | October 2017 | Play off draw on Tuesday

Probably have some help, too. McKennie has become a starter in defensive/central midfield for Schalke at age 19 and that´s their biggest need. Bradley fell off a cliff. Maybe it was the pasta in Italy. He´s a ghost nowadays.

It's that fat MLS pay check/refusing to fight for a spot in Europe that took him south.

Acosta has the potential to be a quality CM for the US and will likely be off to Europe this winter.

USA going out is like a warming karma for having the dimwittedness to vote Trump in.

It's a tiny victory of karma, but a victory nonetheless.

Poor Alexis. Couldn't get out of Arsenal and now this. What happened to this Chile team needs to be studied. How the hell they went from serial winners to this ? They just had a pretty good confederations cup...

I do not think that is so surprising. Their players played tournaments all of the recent summer breaks until late stages - most play in Europe so they have the travelling, too - and they aren't 22 anymore. Never had full preparations in the summer.

I remember that the teams that played in the last ConfedCup all struggled during the World Cup - that is why e.g. Germany played rested their normal players...

This is bad news for Arsenal. At least he had the WC incentive keeping him focused (e.g. see Coutinho).

When you see the reactions of the players from places like Panama, you know there is still nothing bigger than the World Cup, no matter how hard the EPL or UCL work to make you believe otherwise.

Unbelievable scenes
Things like this make me love football.
Really old school passions and emotions to see somewhere like panama qualify and how much joy it can bring to people there.

Shows how much money has ruined the game

This malaise seems most prevalent in Europe, particularly England. In most other places I'd wager most of the players value playing for their country far far more than their club. In the same way no matter how passionate you are about your club, there will always be something special about watching your country vs another.

Hmmm when you put it that way...

...naw still a shame to see them out :/

What do you think? Gulati out?

Absolutely shameful result for USA.

Anyone have any good Crying Jordans to lighten the mood?

It is from western first world English speaking countries who have constant exposure to media spin of the premier league.

Michael Bradley is the worst ball-playing midfielder I have seen in my life. 30 meter dribblers to unmoving (with their backs turned), well-guarded players when he’s the last MF back.

It's amazing how much he regressed from when he was at Roma. Decided to cash in and come to the MLS (his prerogative as a person, doesn't say much about his work ethic).

I was livid when Arena was hired again. Jurgen wasn't perfect but his team selection was usually spot on. Why was Damarcus fecking Beasley called up? Dempsey should have hung up his international boots after the last world cup. Pulisic is probably wondering why he didn't go with Croatia.

A full reset is needed.

Incredible 3 hours of football really.
USA and Chile both deserving of going out.
Last day of Qualifiers around the world are always exciting with globalization imo.

No even with a tie they would be in the WC this was the media -sales, sales- with a picture of Messi and Ronaldo on the front pages saying they may miss the WC
Ok, but never thought this combination of results would happen to USA, thank God at least they aren't in our group this time, last 2 with them we didn't get out of the group stage.

Never heard of Gulati until tonight to be honest, but clearly things haven't worked out well. Don't follow American soccer/football at all but given the chance to wind them up a bit, i'll take that.

Klinsmann was calling up Beasley well past his time too. Klinsmann had some bizarre tactics this cycle and his team selections weren't always spot on either. He clearly had lost the plot and the players respect. Players weren't exactly performing either.

Klinsmann would make a solid USSF President. Doubt he'd run for it.

I don't think England players don't like to play in WC, it is the poisonous ambient around the media, first is circus created by them, when they fail they are murdered by them.

But it is true outside Europe there is a genuine love for WC, no doubt about that, even some parts of Europe I guess, particularly when you don't have top leagues in your country.

Agreed on all counts. I don't mind Bradley making an economical choice, but I do mind him being made the fulcrum of the NT after doing so. Way too many 30+ y.o. players who aren't even good in the MLS, being played out of some bizarre loyalty.

Firing Klinsmann was an incredible decision -- there is absolutely no aspect of the managing wherein Arena is superior, and in most he isn't particularly close. Total idiocy.

The German coach was no good to USA....
Probably they would qualify with Klinsmann, but the results weren't looking good at the time, anyway they have some good players coming from their under 17 team, while our under 21's with Rui Jorge lost today in Bosnia, I would like to see what will hapen when there is no Ronaldo, Pepe, who will replace them.

Jalen Rose and Chauncey Billups brought up US loss on the pre game show for the Lakers.
Sorry to ask, but what 2 former NBA players said about the subject? No blaming on Trump this 1.

I can see the funny side now.

I don´t think the future looks that bad for the USA. You hear some good stuff about the youth academies like in Dallas. With Brooks - McKennie - Pulisic - Wood they have a great young axis to build around. They always have a decent goalkeeper somewhere.

If anything, Trump would probably relish the chance to say "you're fired" to any and everyone involved (were it his prerogative) after this debacle.
Used to follow sometimes CNN here in Portugal at night, but I quit, don't know how you guys there can stay calm with the shitshow in the Media everynight. And believe me if we do have incompetent polititians here too.

Actually I don't mix people with press, in Portugal our media is not very reliable to say the least, actually I like Pizzi, don't know if Chileans are so happy with him today, regarding the baffoon coming I thought looking from the outside everything was safe with Bachelet.

We have thousands of Haitians, Colombians and Venezuelans arriving everyday. For the same money you hire two or three of them instead of one chilean. The level of crime have escalated exponentially. We never had murders at the numbers we are seeing now. Colombian gangs have taken over complete areas, etc.

that's what the right wing is exploiting.

Bachelet is no better anyway... she is like Clinton. Now she sails happy into the horizon (U.N. job).

Chile always looks good on the outside because of our macroeconomic numbers, but wealth distribution is in african levels. 70% of the productive land belong to the top 1%, for example.

Anyway, i don't rate Pizzi. He is an ok coach, but when you have world class players like Vidal and Sanchez, you need a world class coach. Bielsa was the one who created our game style, he had us playing the best football, and he resigned leaving us in limbo. Sampaoli just carried with what Bielsa had done with he players on their physical prime, but midway his tenure, you could see the players were already bigger than him, and were picking the team and playing at whatever they wanted, not what Sampaoli wanted. With Pizzi was even worse. He needs to get sacked now, and hopefully the federation will bring a world class coach.

PS. you know why Bielsa resigned? Because Piñera was president (the same that's gonna win now), and he fired the football federation president and replaced him with a friend of his, some business man. Bielsa even declined to shake the president's hand. Such an example of man.

Just said they were very disappointed.
Actually it is not so strange some NBA players do like football (soccer), while a lot of football players in Europe do like NBA, a lot of Spanish players followed Gasol and all that.
