So exactly the same result as last season, when we weren't crippled with injury. Don't mention Harry Kane he didn't do much in last season game, so he might as well been missing then as well. Good performance, good result and Jose out thought Poch.

Great result but we are awful going forward. Our defence is rock-solid but our only attacking tactic appears to be hoofball.

Guardiola must laugh when he watches some of our attempts at combination play.
Mourinho, or any top manager must have laughed at Citys hilarious defending.

Very pragmatic and professional performance from the team, despite being handicapped by very poor attacking contributions from Herrera and Mhkitariyan in 1st half.

Despite some fancy tippy tap dancing from Spurs, our defence ensured they never really threatened, and in 2nd half our pace up front really hurt them on several occasions, and we should have been 2-0 before we actually scored. In the end, Lingard and Martial extra urgency and pace changed the tempo and won us the game, so ec=xcellent tactics and game management from Mourinho.

In the end the right result, possibly we should have won 2 or 3-0. Spurs meanwhile seem a lame duck without Kane.

There's only so many times we can do that. If you want to win the PL, it's not going to based off hoof ball. Ridiculous to even use today's goal to justify it.

Do what, completely nullify the attacking threat of one of Englands best teams at present? Or Jose schooling Poch on the tactical side of the game by deploying a long ball system in order to counter Spurs high press stategy?

We deserved to win the game whether you like it or not.

Huge win and I thought the second half was a good performance. Those saying this was 0/10 for enjoyment should have a serious word with themselves. We edged the game against one of the strongest teams in the league and created enough chances in the second half to deserve the win, and we scored the winner in the final 10 minutes. I enjoyed it.

Was my thoughts too. Its uncanny, it's 4 goals in 4 substitute appearances I think they said, and his goals per minute must be crazy. I would like to see him get the consistency over 90minutes but the feeling of him coming on and scoring is hard to match in football.

We've got a really good thing going with Martial and Rashford alternating off the bench. One comes on fresh to terrorise the jaded defenders and this has been the difference in several wins this season.

First half after the first 10 mins was Spurs. They controlled the game without ever looking threatening.

Come the second half we looked more on top. They couldn't play the high press effectively for 90 mins so we had time to play our game.

The second half I always thought that the goal was coming. The tactic of changing Rashford for Martial is still bearing fruit so it's one I'd stick with.

I'm disappointed that Lingard missed that chance at the end. Not because we needed the goal but because it gave the snipers a reason to come out again. He scored 2 mid week FFS.

Our fans should start turning up to games against Spurs with those giant inflatable champagne bottles. Predictable Tottenham, bottling the big games.

He was vindicated though - Martial scored.

He probably doesn’t appreciate the crowd thinking they know better.

Crowd were chanting Martial name way before that, they wanted him on the pitch but they didnt want Rashford out and he knows that but it seems like in his eyes Rashford and Martial with Lukaku is no go in any situation.

Jesus Christ, a post match thread and there's a dozen posts about magnificent City... can't believe my eyes.

We have played two major rivals. One draw away; one win at home.

Way to go.

Now let's take the game to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

So, according to Souness, if they came to OT and took a point they would be called big team, and us getting point in Liverpool, was defensive?!
ok

I think a lot of the problems we are having is due to Mhki and Herrera, neither are in form and if it wasn't for the lack of fit alternatives, I'd have then standing behind Luke Shaw in terms of waiting for selection right now. Still we ground out that win, after the last few performances that was needed going into the next few weeks.

In the first half both teams lost it a little, and the tackles flew in reminded me of league games towards the end of the 80's, but with a bit more quality to the teams. We gave them the impetus quite early in the half and didn't recover, in the second we grabbed the game. Quietly Matic, Young and Valencia started to make life hard for Spurs.

As for the goal, we've done this all year now. Let either Rashford or Martial run at the defense and then bring the other on to grab the goals. I know that they and Lingard can play as a 3 up top, but for league games I'm more than happy to keep it rolling as it is.

Scrappy game.

First half, we started well, but Spurs' three dominated midfield for most of thr half, and we couldnt get our foot on the ball, which often resulted in us hoofing the ball and just losing possession.

Ideally, I would have liked to see us working the channels bettter. That's where the space was.

Second half, we were a lot better. Started the half good, and got into better areas of the pitch. Unfortunately, we weren't able to take one of those chances.

Very much settled into how the first half went after that, and Spurs had control. However, they never really looked like they were going to score. I felt our back three were excellent. Apart from the Alli chance, which was down to us Eriksen too much time on the ball, they didnt have a sniff.

Throughout the game, I felt we looked a lot more likely to score than Spurs, and thankfully Martial was able to take his chance.

All in all, happy with the performance. Typical Mourinho performance. Nothing fancy, but very hard to beat and had the quality to win the game in the end. Very happy.

Not lately though. They negate defending for most parts by keeping the ball and winning it back regularly.
The season has only begun, we'll se plenty of it.

Yes but the times when the opponent manages to get passed their press, it's wide open at the back.

Lads, Its Tottenham:nervous:

:D Yes who spanked Liverpool 4-1 and it could've been even worse. The same Tottenham who had one chance on goal and put it wide. Great win, fantastic goal from Martial. I would've liked to have seen Mourinho take Herrera off, as he was awful as usual and give Blind or even Mata a chance next to Matic, a bit more creativity in the center of the park. All in all well done, 3 points and up to the next game.

We bossed one of the best teams in the Premier League, deserve 2nd spot, now lets go and get 1st.

As for Kane not playing, no Pogba, Carrick, Rojo, Zlatan........

Good win.
Too passive in the first half, much improved from the start of the second half, more aggressive.
Mkhi had a quiet first half but started pulling the strings in the second but then got taken off
Defence were solid and not that threatened other than Alli's miss.
Martial excellent finish.
Lingard reverts to type.

I don’t understand what people were expecting? Spurs have one of the best defensive records in Europe over the last couple of years.

No one is going to pump them by 3 or 4 goals.

Knowing the state of our midfield at the moment, I.e injury state we have to be measured and professional. We cannot play that gung ho nonsense you’re all crying for.

If Fellaini is back next week, I’m confident we can sneak a result at SB.

Even Madrid couldn't crack them at the Bernabeu.

Is that acceptable from spurs? Going away to title rivals and only created one decent chance. I expected more from them. Poch should get sacked with that type of safety first mentality.

Everyone we beat is relegation fodder. Didn't you get the memo?

A big difference today was our pressing. I really liked the way we pressed. It gave Spurs problems.

Didn't even start a striker. Pathetic. His win record against the top teams is awful too.

Have you started watching football yesterday? Mourinho has won leagues playing this way.
