I'm enjoying it so far. Looks nice, plays well and the level design is cool (very much like DS in that you progress through areas unlocking shortcuts). Combat is good with you being able to target specific body parts in order to get new armour. If you require right arm armour, start chopping arms off, etc. Not sure about some of the hit boxes on the first boss, mind you.

Can't go wrong for £12.95 new.
 
Fire Emblem Warriors, Skyrim and now Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - really liking this "Close Call" theme they are going with for their marketing. Streets ahead of their utter failure at promoting the Wii U.

 
So some reviews of 3rd party games aren't as good as on other platforms, is it a worry 3rd party games won't find success on the Switch?

Doom and LA Noire have recently been ported to the Switch and they're looking pretty good. It suggests third parties aren't going to neglect Nintendo's platform has they've historically done so.

Granted, the strength of their appeal still very much lies in their first party games, but I think we'll see more third party publishers take the Switch abit more seriously.

The Triple A gaming bubble looks like its about to burst anyway, with quite a few gamers sick of the pointless annual rehashes, microtransactions and general lazy dev work. I honestly think the next batch of gems will be games from smaller studios, indie titles and the occasional surprise. Can't see why Nintendo won't attract those types of games. I'm personally fine with not playing Call of Battlefield 32 and Assassins Creed 45 on the Switch :lol:

I actually meant games like Doom that are getting something like 78 on metacritic which in the end may lead to 3rd party developers avoid the switch as a result.
 
What's the deal with eBay, 4 hrs left on a used Switch with Mario Odyssey (download version) and bidding is on £300 inc postage.

Seeing as you can buy a new one with Mario Odyssey for 310 it makes no sense.

Think people get caught up with the excitement of an auction. I see it a lot with retro games going for more than the BINs.

That's it as far as I know. Get the one at £310.

EDIT looks like the £310 bundle comes with a physical copy of Mario. Even better. Mine came with a digital code so it eats up more memory.

Seriously what did you expect? The only person who’d want to play third party on the switch is someone on the go. That’s the only reason.

If Skyrim came out right now the switch would be the last platform I’d want to play it on.
 
I have a hard time believing that anyone is going to pay full price for a mediocre port of a game from 2011.
 
Is Mario Odyssey a must buy then?

I'm probably having a Switch for Christmas and i definitely want Mario Kart Deluxe and one other game. Either going to be Zelda or Odyssey?

Any recommendations?

Is it a mediocre port? The reviews tend to suggest otherwise. Your point is valid though.

I did buy Skyrim today, only the VR version. And it's fecking brilliant, finally a vanilla version that I can tolerate :)

I am leaning more towards Zelda. I'm not really a huge Zelda fan but this new one looks amazing.

I've just been looking at this Odyssey bundle and not really sure what to do. Mario just seems like it's a little shallow and can be completed rather quickly? I don't know.

Could be way off base here as i obviously haven't played it.

It's mediocre in comparison to the special edition which came out relatively recently on current gen consoles. Maybe I was a tad harsh and I do know what you mean. I probably should have said 'version' as opposed to port. If you want to play Skyrim, though, current gen or PC is the way to go.

I wonder how many gamers only have a Switch? Seems like most would also have one of the other options.

You can't say its medicore compared to current gen because sometimes playing games on the go/handheld can be a lot more fun ie, there are aspects other than graphics to consider here tbh, for me personally though I only buy exclusives be it on my Switch or on my PS4.

I see you have now amended it and it still doesn't make any sense to me. What does the ability to play it on the go have to do with anything? There are superior versions on PC and current gen consoles. I don't know how that can be argued. These versions also have mod support.

What makes a port superior is how much fun you can have with it not how good the graphics are imo, that's why I feel the switch port if given a chance might be more fun than other versions and thus superior, I don't understand why you called it medicore?

Because the other versions are technically superior and come with mod support. Apologies, I edited my last post while you were in the process of replying.
 
I didn't play the first one, though I had a Wii U. I know they are technically classed as 'shooters'; do you feel that's an accurate description? I hope that's not a stupid question.

In terms of accessibility it's similar to Overwatch which I loved. Once you figure out the weapons that are best for you, you won't get hammered even if you are a beginner, unlike Battlefield or CoD where inevitably nerds will batter you all day long.
 
I bought Skyrim yesterday.

It runs really well on the Switch but I have to say, not for the first time nostalgia has tricked me into trying to play this game again when it doesn’t really hold up well enough anymore.

Going to get rid in the week before the massively overpriced value drops.
