That was the slowest....................... stream ............. I got in recent times

3 points is 3 points.

Also Shaw and McTominay looked great, which is nice to see.

Jones was dominant at the back once again. We always say it, but hopefully he can stay fit for a long while!

So just watched the extended highlights on Sky. So ummm they made it look like we were getting battered. Were we rubbish or something as everything seemed to be them ripping us open and getting shots off.

We've missed an angry streak since SAF retired. We've never reacted after a defeat like we as fans want the team to. I honestly thought after the defeat and the fracas on Sunday we would come out tonight spoiling for a fight, Bully the opposition and just try to prove to all we can beat anyone. We just seem to have a soft under belly.

We really miss a Keane type figure in the side.

To be fair, Lukaku was absolutely fired up. He was playing extremely aggressively.

Not a good performance but we showed character to keep it at 1-0 despite the poor performance.

We still have some improving to do in certain areas but the improvement from last season compared to our rivals other than City can't be ignored.

Wasn't the best performance that's for sure but I am glad for the points. Lingard falling over himself and Martial missing sitters has me concerned a bit with Micky being out of form and no other scoring options besides a struggling Rom. Rom scored which is a plus, being he usually does against non top-6 sides; however. his "I wont celebrate in front of the fans" act made me think he's a big effin baby (maybe like our coach). It's funny how the guy has been out of form for months and he assists 2 goals for City in the derby (the biggest game of the year) and now he is in his feelings over his abuse from the fans. I am not saying he is, but the lack of celebration came off like that to me. I back Rom and will continue to support him because he is who we have as our no 9. But when he is shite, I will say so.

As for Jose going into City's locker room, that was WEAK. He should've sat the lads down, made them listen to it, and remind them to shut them up next chance they get. By the way, I still remember a certain manager running up and down our sideline celebrating with Porto and running onto the Nou Camp like a madman with Inter. If we beat City at the emptyhad, I expect a raucous celebration. Banter is a good thing.

Horrible conditions. We played average, but it was not like they were battering us. They were as bad as us

Just home and have to say we were hopeless again. The fact that de Gea had more saves to make than the Bournemouth keeper at Old Trafford is depressing. We were slow and ponderous, lacking in movement. I thought Shaw did well again, and de Gea was his usual excellent self, but it was poor. We should have sides like Bournemouth on the ropes all night at home, but they were confident and clearly believed they could take on this United team. We really couldn't have begrudged them a point. We need some imagination and guile in the team, like City have with Silva and Chelsea have with Hazard. We're predictable.

It's all rather dull.

We have a decent team but some serious recruitment is needed before we become a 'bloody good' team.

We need full backs (on both sides), at least one more CM, an RW and potentially another CF option before we can push for the elite level IMO.

We got an excellent option in Shaw who should now get a look in. Valencia bar the odd game has been a great player for us at RB. Agree on the CM bit, but another CF when we have Martial and Rashford who in my opinion should get a look in. Buying another CF will only hamper the growth for both. RW maybe, unless Mhki can be accommodated with his pace and can be a positive option.

Even with all these flaws, we are a bloody good team. We are not a great team who can go toe to toe against Barcelona and Madrid but should be able to play well against a mid table team and put them away with minimal fuss. We seem to be organised brilliantly defensively but when we counter attack we seem to waste far too much time getting in to positions to make it count.

Buying more players will not solve the quality of football if the manager is hell bent on forcing players to play his way and with his method rather than let them play creatively.

This is an important point. I totally agree. Lindgard, Mata, Martial, Mikithariyan, Herrera, Lukaku.. these aren't players who are going to drive the team onto another level, week in, week out. They may inspire, on occasion, but aren't taking us through the gears during matches...and none of them seem like they wish to or feel it is their role. They are all 'waiting for St Paul' and they should be ashamed of themselves. Additionally, Mourihno's demeanor reflects upon the team.. dour, fed-up, moaning, uninspired, fragile. Look at his Press Conference(s).. face as long as a flaming' kite, all the time. I'm fed up with it. He and the squad is lavished by money, and I am sure we are going to spend EVEN MORE.

Pep has taken on these boring, pragmatic coaches (Mourinho, Moyes, Benitez etc..) and taken them apart with attractive football. Teams like Leicester, even Bournemouth 'outplay' us. Why? And why shouldn't fans question that? We are currently second, and will need to fight to remain there.

United have played well (in part) against Arsenal, and destroyed Watford. Aside from that, since September, tell me where we are playing close to our potential with the players we have. They are not the top players, but they are better than how they are performing. The players need to take some blame, because they should stand up and demand more from themselves (look at Ashley Young as an example.. a limited player who has a big impact on the team...), and the manager should take some blame, because he has instilled a negative, uninspiring approach to football at one of the biggest and most coveted clubs in the world.

YES we are second, and when everyone feels great (and Paul Pogba is playing) we look a decent side. But without Pogs, we have a team of players who lack leadership, and it's annoying. AND Defensively, I think we are pretty decent, but De Gea shouldn't be our most important player as often as he is. We need that Centre Half pairing, and that reliable, top-quality, natural left-back.

Happy with the win. But our form and general play is concerning and the rivals are not that far behind. I really hope we buy a quality playmaker in Jan, but I guess January transfer window is not known for big moves. Mata is good, but slow.

I'm also wondering what is Jose's preferred center back combination, I thought Lindelof would play today based on his recent performances. But at least Shaw got the nod and he put in a good display. He would need a decent run of games with either Martial/Rash to get in sync with the left side of the attack. Similarly I want Mkhi to comeback, I'm a fan I confess, and I want him to do well. We miss his midfield runs and penetrative passing, though was able to see that only a few times this year.

Just realised that we've already equalled our number of home league wins from last season...

Didn't watch it since I was at the pub but a win is a win. Lukaku scored. Great. Should get that monkey off his back. Also glad he didn't celebrate, since to me, that means he knows one goal isn't good enough. He's fecking glad he's scored it but he's not celebrating becuase he knows he needs to score 8 in 11 or something like that to satisfy himself.

Brendan, is that you?

Bournemouth had better shooting stats, but I thought we had more control of the game. It wasn’t worrying to me other than the last 10 minutes. Majority of Bournemouth’s shots went straight to De Gea, as well. Regarding Lukaku, I’m very happy for him that he got a goal. He needed that. Luke Shaw is MOTM for me and I hope we see more of him down the left side.

It’s frustrating to watch, but we can’t be THAT mad when we know we’re not that great without Pogba, so I’m not sure why we will expect otherwise. Sometimes, grinding out close wins can be just as crucial as smoking teams. These types of games would have been draws last season, so let’s take the 3 points and acknowledge the improvements, however little. Spare me the lectures about money spent. That shit is massively inflated anyway.

Furthermore, Arsenal and Liverpool drew against teams of relatively equivalent quality as Bournemouth, so some of you could use a bit of perspective, chill out, and go laugh at the meltdowns on RAWK and AFTV.

The Christmas period isn't about playing free flowing football, it's about grinding out results when teams are start to look tired and lethargic (See Arsenal and Liverpool). .

Good point, but the reason people are freaking out is because we've been playing like this since September; we played like this last season too. It's not the first time we've played like we did today, it's already the norm.

Who gives a shit if we played shit. The three points is all that matters. Without Pogba we don't have the luxury of enjoying a game of football playing well. Every game without Pogba is a struggle, regardless of the opposition.

I was working, only caught the main highlights. Can someone give me a brief summary of how it went? How'd Shaw, McTominay and Lukaku do in particular?

3 points, 2nd place, more ground gained on Liverpool and Arsenal. Shaw came good and Lukaku scored.

Forgetting that such a thing as 1st place exists in the league, that's a lot of positives. We did fine, no complaints.

Well what can be said.. The positives..

3 points
A clean sheet
Lukaku back on the scoresheet
McTominay looked very good.
Jones good at the back.

The negatives..

Ammount of corners we gave away
Ammount of shots we conceded on target
Boring style of football

All in all very happy with the win but a deep sense of disappointment at having this brand of football in comparison to the way Pep has that other shower playing.

It was pretty tumescent to be honest. Weather was vile and Bournemouth looked very dangerous from start to finish. Lukaku's goal came pretty much against the run of play, and they ended up having considerably more attempts on goal than we did by the end of the game. Had this been played last season, we would have certainly dropped points. I guess it was most similar to the match against Brighton last month, except Bournemouth looked way more likely of scoring throughout. Game fittingly ended with De Gea having to make a good, but expected, save. That said, Martial missed a sitter and Rashford smacked the bar with a screamer from distance so, as they say, fine margins and all that.

Shaw - played really well. Solid defensively and got forward well, particularly in the second half. Clear that he is a far more natural, and accomplished left back than Young and Blind. Just needs to stay fit and healthy. So not much new learned there. Still, good to see him and he'll almost certainly feature again over the Christmas run of fixtures.

McTominay - People seem pretty divided but, again, I thought he did very well. Grew into the game nicely and made some good interceptions. Obviously nowhere near as impactful as Matic, Carrick or Herrera (no point in adding Pogba to this list), but it's a nice step up and one he didn't shy away from. Confident performance.

Lukaku - Ermm. He scored, which is good. Other than that, if you're a massive fanboy of his, don't watch the extended highlight reel. He was bad, and I'm a big fan of his. Particularly in the first half, his touch was heavy (obvs) and his passing practically none-existent. He looked slow overall and in need of a rest. He improved his overall game in the second half with some good hold-up play and lay-offs but, honestly, had it not been for his goal I'd be inclined to argue this was up there with one of his worst performances for us given this was the sort of game he is supposed to thrive in. Also, he's still struggling to clear crosses. I'm starting to think opposition set piece takers are just going to aim any balls into our box at him a la De Gea 2010/11.

No we don't miss Keane type, we miss Scholes (or Pogba). Mata (and Herrera) doesn't dictate tempo and we were slow. The players upfront were slow as well, may be tired. Lukaku gave away the the balls many times during counter-attack, he is not Pogba and none of the team can replace Pogba on this function.

Given the results of Liverpool & Arsenal I happily take the three points.
However, we need to step-up our game again quickly. The christmas period will be busy and we need to finish games off again in order to be able to save some resources during matches.

Solid performance, if a little ropey but the conditions were horrendous. Great outing for a few of the lads, top assist from Mata and Lukaku got his goal. Moving onward and upward and lets keep on City's heels and pounce when they stumble.

That was a slog. Reminds me of the away game to Everton in 2011 after the City defeat. Nothing fancy just get the 3 points.

The conditions looked feckin' crap... and as I didn't get to watch/endure the full 90minutes and only caught the highlights without knowing the score - i'm pretty happy with the win.

So it's December and January the team is excused from playing good football because of a hectic schedule. It's December 13th and that excuse is coming a little early.
The team is excused from playing good football early in the season when it hasn't gelled.
After that the frequent international breaks provide an excuse.
The team is excused from playing good football from March through May when it's business end of the season and it's all about getting over the line.
The team is excused from playing good football away from home.

Sorry but this team is full of excuses, never a sustained period of good football.

Add the excuse "Pogba isn't playing"

Last season we would have lost/drawn this game. So who cares? Job done

We weren't terrible. Happy with the 3 points in shit conditions, potential banana skin avoided.

It was quite an open game, they hit us on the counter with pacey players and the shit weather that we've witnessed but it wasn't half gloom and doom as some try to depict it here, their best chance was Defoe's missed effort. We've had Martial missing an open goal and Rashrford's thuderbolt, overall we were sloppy but as sombeody mentioned it already, this period is about catching as many points as possible, nothing more. We obviously miss Pogba.

Shaw, McTominay and Lukaku have done well imo.

Perfect summary

Which is progress, when we're in mid December. It's far from perfect, but we are moving forward in results if not performances.

Despite the recent shitshower vs City, we have been moving forward in performances as well compared to last season, quite a bit actually. Defense is largely the same, but offensively we have looked a lot sharper than last season.

Happy with points of course but not happy with most aspects of our performance. Shaw was good mind which is promising, I think he needs to be kept in the starting 11 from now. Apart from that no one really impressed me at all, we were very sloppy and for majority of the game Bournemouth were the superior team. Fecking Bournemouth at OT!
If we can get through the WBA with same result I will be very happy, then with a fresh Pogba back in the team and hopefully a fully fit Shaw our attacking dimension should go up a fair few levels, which we will need against Leicester who are playing well. Matic looks exhausted which is worrying, hopefully he can get a rest for Bristol City game although that will not be an easy game either.
I really hope we sign someone in January, preferably a CM.

Effect of derby (title) lose can seen through the game but happy about grinding win
