Guardiola would not have Utd in the same shape as he has City.

The Utd squad has been mismanaged for 5-6 years. SAF didnt replace the old guard, and then Moyes and LVG replaced the old guard with squad players. Add to this that we have had a lot of injuries/suspensions this season and it makes it worse.

We would have asked a lot of questions to this city team with Pogba in the midfield. But we had Herrera who has been ban average this season.

Guardiola's inherited more useful players than Mou, no doubt about it. The gap wasn't huge though.

Still it seems the reinforcements he made spening similar funds and his general gameplan are superior.

Missing the best outfield player and top 2 CBs is huge though....

Mendy and Stones out for City. Kompany is a better replacement than Smalling/Rojo

Really don't want to praise the bald cnut, he just has Jose's number when it comes to managing against each other.

He has a pretty normal squad actually.

Today's lineup:

Ederson
Walker, Otamendi, Kompany, Delph
Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Silva
Sterling, Sane, Jesus

Which of these players would be considered top 5 in the world in their respective positions without a doubt? De Bruyne? Maybe Silva? That's it. He doesn't have a super team. A good one but not a super team. It's his tactics and management that get the results.

35m

50m, 30m, 6m, 8m

34m, 55m, 24m

50m, 46m, 27m

£365m total - 'pretty normal squad'

Our line-up yesterday was more than £100m (or 30%) cheaper. Obviously Pogba would have closed that gap substantially.

Looking at that it really shows how envious and desperate alot on here are to play down an exhilarating genius of a manager... keep seeing mentions of how he can only win with a squad of world class players. I see two absolute world class footballers and a few prospects and talents on the same level as Rashford and Martial (and they would perform similarly or better than sterling and sane had they played under pep). That mixed with the likes of Otamendi and Delph whom we laughed at regularly on the caf as nothing players... (add Sterling to that as well... the improvement after a year with pep, dayum).

I see a normal squad and we, chelsea or Arsenal have had better ones in the past during our glory days.

Just out of curiosity most on this thread think Pep is just a good manager, not a world class one and not a great one.

So who are the current great one's?

The money spent is really no excuse for United. Maybe when the West Brom and Swansea's of this world are beaten by a City, United or Chelsea they have a genuine reason to cry about it but United have more money than the vast majority of clubs, no FFP constraints, offer huge salaries to the right players and the prestige that such as City and PSG do not.
You have everything in place but have just made some poor choices these last few years although I feel United are on the up again.
You'll just have to ride out the next couple of years. Pep will ride off into the sunset and City may make a few poor choices of their own.

Looking at the first page of this thread is an embarrassment. Pep is one of the best coaches right now and might end up being of the best of all time. If he wins the PL this season I dont think anyone should deny that hes a genius.

Guardiola holds the records for consecutive league wins in three of the top leagues now: Spain 16, Germany 19 and England 14 (and counting). He is creating machines.

Sky reporting City will understandably try and tie him down to a longer contract beyond his last year next season, he did 4 years at Barca, 3 at Bayern how long do people think he'll stay at City?

If the poll was open now I would vote differently. I went with the third option, I would go with the second at least, and probably the first.

I always had some reservations, the same ones many of his doubters have. I always said when he was at Bayern that I would judge him on his time at City where he would have a less dominant team relative to the rest of his league - plus I would see more of him. Last season didnt settle the argument, and this season is still far from over, but what we have seen in half of this season proves to me beyond reasonable doubt that there is more to this guy than simply inheriting the best squads in the world and watching the trophies rolling in.

He's a special manager and its very unfortunate he manages our rivals.

The premier league doesn't have a super team so a team like Leicester can win it. The was the worst that season since it's inception. Mourinho won't win shit with a Porto in this current climate. Leicester winning the EPL is a damning indictment on the EPl if anything.
How people can be blind to this is beyond me. Take the last 5 seasons and see what the prem champions managed to do in the CL and its obvious that the quality just hasn't been there. It's no surprise that when there is a real quality team , They look nigh on unbeatable in the league. Of course this lack of quality that some of us have been bemoaning for years has drawn responses like' This league is to competitive to do well in it and the CL' or some other types of rubbish. We've spend years people telling us that a Barca, Madrid or Bayern wouldn't walk this league yet we see those clubs taking the mickey out of the big prem sides in the CL season in season out.

The quality of the best sides in Europe was re-evaluated when Pep built that Barca side. Standards are really high so either we try to keep up or accept second place.

Its hard to know what makes the guy tick - what he would want to do next. He's got so much of his career ahead of him. But apparently he was quite clear with them he was only interested in staying for the duration of his current contract, though reports say City are confident he will extend anyway.

Im going to say he'll be off at the end of next year but that is probably hope as much as anything else.

He's like a dog pissing on lamp posts so they're "his". He'll mark his spot in England then feck off.

This thread has run it's course I think. People are bumping it for Guardiola's news which wasn't the purpose behind it.

Plus City are on a winning streak ever since this was created so I'm blaming this thread.
