Manchester United 2:1 Chelsea

Post-match discussion

Sun, 25 February 2018

Good performance, good subs, good result. Credit where it's due, great win.

Now let's build on it next weekend, when hopefully (sob) City beat Chelsea and we've got a 9 point gap opened up, with 9 games left.

A much improved 2nd half. Pogba was doing well in that role while Lukaku and Matic were brilliant. I just wish Jose would be braver with some of his decisions and approach

Souness is absolutely gutted :lol::lol:
I was scraping around everywhere for a Sky post match stream, to no avail unfortunately … bet the Sour one found loads to still be negative about as well as grudgingly admitting that "United bullied Chelsea's beautiful footballers off the ball almost professionally" how many times did he claim that Morata's "goal" should have stood?

Chelsea were great first half hour. That goal Lukaku nicked end of first half was pretty big in the context of the match as you guys were looking a bit clueless going forward.

Second half very tight but Chelsea receded as an attacking force and were seemingly happy to close out the 1-1.

Big win to finish in the top 4.

I most impressed with Lukaku today, even though I think Matic was the MOTM.
Got a very important goal in a massive game and also created another, and he generally just played well

McTominay made him better. Perhaps Jose needs to keep an eye on a potential partnership

Wow! If m so happy.

Viggo and Mike’s best match together. Finally some understanding when and where to press or drop.

McTm was a beast and worked his socks off. Maybe not as influential as Matic and Pogba but his contribution was essential for our game plan.

Luks best match in a red shirt. Starting on the right is the way forward. Gives room to both Martial and Alexis to play their preferd game.

Pogba took a step forward. We need him.

Jesse is a great impact player. Energy and a positive attitude. A proper United character.

Finally hats off to Mou. Spot on.

I bet there are bunch of people who want Mourinho out, that are devastated right now.

I'm sure there are many fans who wish to see the back of Jose, but actively hoping your team loses to make that happen just goes against everything that a football fan stands for. Just my opinion.

Great second half.

Lingards energy and movement really changed the game, wont be surprised if he starts ahead of Martial in the next game.

Good tactics from Mourinho to free up Pogba. Mctominay and Matic are the perfect foil for him.

Front four of Pogba, Sanchez, Lukaku and Martial/Lingard/Rashford can be lethal - off the ball energy and movement needs to improve.

BUT right wing is still a problem - whoever plays there has an underwhelming game.

Conte looks like he's simultaneously having his arsehole tickled whilst being stung by a wasp in the scrotum at the same time in the post-match interview. A bit on edge.

Great result. Much improved performance in 2nd half but my god the first half was extremely concerning, not just the performance, more like nobody had a clue as to what to do. Bad sign of bad coaching.

Great win.
Great comeback from 1-0 down.
Great result for us today and I love it!

Some people on this forum will be gutted that we won.
There was so much negativity in the match day thread and I also read a few posts that people want us to lose, so Jose gets sacked.
I am 100% convinced that some of the people on here, who claim to be MUFC fans are actually rivals. Bigging up our rivals, while berating rivals who are actually below us in the table.
I hope that's the case because otherwise, it would be sad to see this kind of development of our fanbase. How fun would it be to watch a game with fans like these.

Any of our Chelsea regulars on here know why Hazard was substituted? Is he injured?

Much better second half, deserved the win. Pogba, Matic and Lukaku especially were very good second half.

Great three points, really pleased for Lukaku and takes some pressure off him. Also Chelsea are now the team looking over their shoulders. They are away at City next. Except is it right City are at Arsenal on Thursday?

What a win!!!! We absolutely bossed them 2nd half. Huge result and performance

I thought we were a bit lucky overall. Chelsea worth a point at least though they did fade towards the end. Wilian was brilliant for them.

Lukaku had one of his best performances for us, even though it was untidy for much of the first half

Martial moments of quality. Not a surprise he created Lukaku's goal.

McTominay (could have continued to track Willian), Valencia (playing him onside) and De Gea (beaten at his near post) all partially at fault for their goal.

I thought Smalling was excellent after Morata hit the bar early on.

Sanchez had a couple of moments but overall rather disappointing. Pogba a better performance but not outstanding.

Impressed by Matic today; really got stuck in. McTominay's long pass over the top in the build-up to Lingard's goal; apart from their goal, I thought he did reasonably well, not an easy task man marking top players.

De Gea had a strange game. Never looked comfortable.

Martial needs to show more Energy and far more movement, he just waits for the ball far too often. Lingard's movement and energy/drive is a great asset to have.
Give Martial, Lingard or Sanchez's tenacity and he'd be a fantastic player.

I'm sure there are many fans who wish to see the back of Jose, but actively hoping your team loses to make that happen just goes against everything that a football fan stands for. Just my opinion.
Of course it does, that's what I meant and I agree with you. I imagine that many of these people are trolls though, rival fans. If not then that's worrying.

Massive result christ we needed that. I was very impressed with Lukaku need to keep that level of performance, especially the second half for the rest of the season.

Great three points, really pleased for Lukaku and takes some pressure off him. Also Chelsea are now the team looking over their shoulders. They are away at City next. Except is it right City are at Arsenal on Thursday?
Yes I believe so..

Very strange match, very dull before the interval and the 15 minutes following. Then suddenly Chelsea switched off entirely and looked very tired, I think we were lucky they played such an inspired game against Barcelona. It’s not like we used a lot of energy away to Sevilla to be honest.

Matic very good in the second half, also because Kante was on a yellow and faded away. Hazard subbed - ok, thanks for that Conte, we’ll take it. Three extremely important points, although very lucky.

I think Moses handballed when he challenged with Pogba for their goal, but I also think Lukaku headed Christensen in the, well head, for out equalizer. And of course, Morata was never offside. Thank god we don’t have VAR yet...

We didnt seem to play with much urgency which is a worry. Valencias not getting forward as often as he used to.

Good games from lukaku, matic and pogba

Give Martial, Lingard or Sanchez's tenacity and he'd be a fantastic player.

He may have to play as a striker if that's the way he wants to play. Think he would tear it up there.

on a side note. How good is Willain? feck me to think so many were against the idea of him coming here. Would take him in a heartbeat. Brilliant cover/box to box. He has it all. He would be the missing piece to or midfield/wide right in my opinion.

Get in there! We needed to work hard for that to get the 3 points as we started very poorly and deservedly went a goal down.
